Sounds like France and other EU members want to see Syria go to EU currency rather than the US currency. Sanctions against Syria has caused the Syrians to rethink their monetary policy. Why else would the French be so secretive. President Jacques Chirac has long been jealous of American power and influece. I am sure he would not be upset to see American currency drop in the world market by influencing rogue nations to switch currencies from American to the Euro.

If the US currency does drop in value, it would be a boom for the US economy making US exports cheaper and more attractive on the world market. It would also make foreign tourists more apt to visit and spend their money in the US since their currency would be worth more!

Your point is well taken, however when Japan hinted at doing this earlier this year there was a same day plunge in our financial markets. The Japanese representative took back the statement and American Markets re-bounded on the news. Apparently, wall street did not share in your point of view.
