dovdevan ,   ashdod   (11.07.06)
this country once again is humaliating the ethiopians by his racism !! enough is enough before 30 years the mizrahim were the victims of this almost white power ! where are the leaders of the black panthers from israel they are not shocked by this reality, why only ethiopian are participating to this protest ? we should all stand by their side!! in this country anything has changed since 30 years there is an israel for the white ashkenazim from the north of tel aviv and another israel for the poor ,ethiopians, mizrahim and religious who are not part of the establishment !! there should be a big revolution in this country
32. YOU ARE THE MORON!
Amir ,   Asmara, Eritrea   (11.07.06)
You and your followers did the same thing to Ethiopians earlier, in the name of Health regulations. WHo are you guys trying to fool? What a shame to discreminate against humble and decent ethiopians, but hey Israel is going down anyway so I don't care
33. 90 thousand violent demonstration is the only way!
Elezer ,   Tel Aviv   (11.07.06)
In Israel being honest, humble, true religious, or patient does not work; it's like being a loser and the buttom of every scum. Many israeli society is a scum! Israel never learns from the past so 90thousand strong ethiopian community that live in israel should start a violent demonstration against this recist gvt. That's The only way! Peace never works for white Israel! forget about the Sabra myth. -16 yrs old ethiopian from TA
34. Love for our Ethiopian family
Josh   (11.07.06)
I have the highest respect for our Ethiopian family amd for those amoung them that strive for good and Torah. You are my brothers. Keep up the good work an fight beuracracy when it repays good with evil.
35. Ethiopians are right!!!!
Nora ,   Israel   (11.07.06)
They're always treated as lesser humans in obtaining work and as for the blood, it shouldnt be taken in the first place!!! I cant donate cos I'm British, but I'd be damn annoyed if I donated blood and then found out that it was thrown away. BTW this has been the policy for years with their blood, its not anything new.
36. to 27
dovdevan ,   ashdod   (11.07.06)
i heard about the full report and i wonder why MDA make the ethiopian people wasting their time by not telling the truth ? above all there is a big problem of racism in this country , discrimination at work !! this country is producing some kind of ethiopian ghettos in many towns by letting these people between them ,they are the victims of the same racism thar were victims the mizrahim racism that is still alive !!!
37. how sad that you turned away against your ancient laws
Shmuel   (11.07.06)
How sad that you turned away against your ancient laws given to you by God himself. The Law repeatedly stated the Creator’s ban on taking in blood to sustain life. “If anyone of the house of Israel or of the strangers who reside among them partakes of any blood, I will set My face against the person who partakes of the blood, and I will cut him off from among his kin. For the life of the flesh is in the blood.” Leviticus 17:10, 11 “You must not eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water. Do not eat it, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right.” Deuteronomy 12:23-25
38. For everyone who was argueing MDA was right
Jonathan Levi ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.07.06)
You people must have had too much blood taken out of your bodies because your heads are functioning slow. I agree that if the blood is contaminated DONT USE IT. I also strongly feel that if you fear the blood is not good DON'T TAKE IT. Anyone care to argue that? YOU CAN'T ARGUE THAT POINT BECAUSE THIS IS A BLATANT CASE OF RACISM.
39. to #16: You're absolutely right
Jamlo ,   USA   (11.07.06)
"ethiopian or of european descent"... You said it. You all are not Palestinians. Go back to Ethiopia or Europe or where ever the heck you "descented" from...
40. O.k. so what? If your from South America
(11.07.06)
your blood is also spilled for fear of malaria.
41. Thank you Harry Reis
(11.07.06)
for the well-informed post and for shedding some light on this article. I felt that it wasn't complete and didn't tell the whole story.
42. To the Ethiopians
(11.07.06)
The MDA should have explained to you that they do not take blood from people from African countries. They do not accept blood from people from England and France and from Israelis who recently (6 months) visited these countries. The reason is that these countries are considered to be high risk of communicable fatal diseases. IT WAS NOT PERSONAL. Reading the article, it seems that the facts weren't explained to you and you became very angry and demonstrated (rioted?). I am also very sorry for the young man who was clubbed, and maybe worse, and I suggest that once he has recovered, he make a formal complaint against the guilty police officer. But something in the article doesn't sound right. You mean that all these Etiopians donated blood, then the MDA people threw out the blood in front of you? Otherwise, how would you know such a thing really happened? I have a feeling that the MDA did explain it to you and no one actually gave blood.
43. All blood is red
(11.07.06)
and all blood can save lives. But if the blood was tainted, then the recipient could contract a horrible disease and DIE. Please calm down and try to understand. I was refused as a blood donor due to border line hemoglobin. I felt great and told them so, but they have their policies and stood by them. I did not demonstrate or argue with the MDA. I went to my doctor and asked for a supplement and I will try again. I know that this solution is not available for Ethiopians and other Africans, the British and the French, and I sympathize. What you people can do is to try to donate blood for yourselves. Is this available in Israel? It is in Canada.
44. No. 3 – "their plight?"
(11.07.06)
What plight are you referring to? For one, I'm sick and tired of hearing about the "poor ethiopians". They've been in this country long enough to make something of themselves. They need to get over this "poor us black folks" mentality. There are many organizations devoted in raising money to help the Ethiopian population and provide them with free higher learning. We already do too much for them. As for MDA refusing their blood, even Israelis (non-ethiopians) can't donate blood if they were in England or France. I don't see the English and French rioting about that though. If there is a chance of the blood being tainted, then you can't donate, that is all.
45. No 7 – SAY WHAT???
(11.07.06)
Why the heck would anyone insist on receiving blood from one who comes from a "risky" country? To make a point? I would beg to receive blood only from relatives and in-laws.
46. Racist #39
Serge ,   Montreal   (11.07.06)
We are Jews. We came from Israel. We wandered for many years. Finally we came home. Deal with it.
47. #1
v. n.y. ,   usa   (11.07.06)
better yet, why didn't the ministry of health instituted an aids test prior to blood donations? if that was done, then health care providers would have known which was tainted blood and which was not. it's done in the usa during any blod drive. and it is simple and not in the least embarrassing to any individual.
48. MDA
Megan ,   Israel   (11.07.06)
do your job properly and tell people beforehand that you can't take their blood and why...an explanation may have saved all this humiliation, I know I would be very angry if it was me...and I am damn angry that this has happened to our fellow jews, who are a credit to our nation. Shame on you! Our Olim from Ethiopia have had the right to demonstrate for a long time now. I hope thoseon their way here will be treated differently. But them lets remember those from Yemen. Israel is not an ashkenazi country it is a Jewish country, so goverment ..start getting things on track! (If that poor man had been white...would the cop have let the horse trampled him...I wonder.)
49. Im an ex Zimbabwean Jew Disgusted!
sabbageorge ,   Tel Aviv   (11.07.06)
I think that the raccism towards our fellow Jew must stop Immidiately!! giving the most to our army, to our society and to Israel! how can their blood not be accepted? If any blood is healthy blood then why can't it be accepted? STOP RACCISM NOW!! And number 28 Antonio where do you get that wromg info from?
50. Israel racist?
Hiram ,   Stornoway   (11.07.06)
No.....this cannot be ! of course, this country determines who is Kosher and who is not, who is elligible for alyah and who is not....who is russian and who is not.....pretty soon, we will get back to the old segregation laws , you know , the one in which ID card is stamped with the correct word !!! The treatment of Falashas is a disgrace ! It shows how intolerant this country is becoming...and unfortuntaly, it shows also the perverse effects of being a theo-democracy !
51. Flashback to Shirts of Brown
Darren ,   Tampa, FL USA   (11.07.06)
First, let me state that WHEN there is violence in the street or looting I say get out the clubs and the machine guns and use them. BUT that does not appear to be the case here at all. These people were non-violent. I saw a video where Israeli policemen, not IDF, were forcefully with much violence removing Jews from "illegal settlements". The Israeli policemen in that episode were just as bad as the Nazi "brown shirts" of Hitler's Germany. It appears the "brown shirts" have arrived again to commit violence against these non-violent Ethiopian Jews. The policeman who struck that blow to the back of the poor man's head should be fired, prosecuted, and pay a substantial money judgment to the victim if the facts substantiate such was done without violent provocation. My understanding is that these JEWS are your brothers and this is how you treat them? You even invited them to ISRAEL! Wil Weren't the original JEWS mainly brown or dark skinned? Or must they look ARYAN? H'mmm....sounds familiar.
52. to #51
(11.07.06)
The Jews of today are mostly descendants from those of biblical days therefore I would say Jews came in all shapes and sizes back then, too. King David was said to be "ruddy with beautiful eyes", I don't know what color his eyes would have been, but "ruddy" sounds that he had reddish hair.
53. #5 - If that is truly the case
Sick of it ,   Israel   (11.07.06)
then MDA needs to throw out blood from most of the ex-Soviets who come here. But of course, probably very few of them donate anything.
54. #37 Legality of Blood Transfusions
Harry Reis ,   Jerusalem   (11.08.06)
Shmuel, You used the source of Leviticus 17:10,11 and Deuteronomy 12:24-25 to claim that blood transfusions are not allowed according to Jewish law. This interpretation is falacious, becuase if you look at the Hebrew text, you will find that the translation of "partake" derives from the verb "yochal" to eat. Both of these verses are laws forbidding Jews from eating blood--in other words they are a matter of kashrut. Blood transfusions are nothing of the sort--they have nothing to do with the digestive system. Not only are transfusions allowed, but they represent the highest possible mitzvah of pikuach nefesh. Even if they were, (which they are not) "unkosher" according to Jewish dietary law, they would still be deemed legal by the rabbis becuase one is allowed to break kashrut in order to save a life.
55. #55.
Shmuel   (11.09.06)
Shalom Harry, Yes, Harry, the Creator was providing a dietary regulation. However, this divine regulation was not merely a restriction on diet, such as a doctor’s advising a patient to avoid salt or fat. God attached a highly important MORAL principle to blood. In pouring out all the blood that reasonably could be drained out, Israel would manifest their regard for the fact that life was from and depended upon the Creator!
56. #54. The answer
Shmuel   (11.09.06)

57. If this is not racism, what is?
Solomon ,   USA   (11.13.06)
If this is not racism, nothing is in your opinion, I guess. Targeting a particular group of people on a baseless assumption which has no scientific merit is the worst kind of racism, unexpected of a country like Israel who claims to be the only democracy in the Middle East. By the way, you’re acquaintance with the procedures of collecting blood is so little. If I were you, I wouldn't try to talk about things I have no knowledge about. How many percent of the Ethiopian Jew found to carry the HIV virus? Any study on that? SHAME ON YOU! SHAME ON YOUR GOVERNMENT!
58. # 54, Does it matter?
Solomon ,   USA   (11.13.06)
By the way, if a doctor tells you not to drink alcohol, are you going to take it in to your blood through injection ? I don't think so. If God (YHWH) says don't eat the blood because it is the sould of life, why don't you respect that?
59. concerned&surprise
sara ,   usa   (09.10.07)
If this is true that MDA had done this ,I think its a shame, the Ethiopian Jews are the original Jews, but no one wants to admit it especially the ashkanazie's. The Ethiopian Jews are the first to walk this land, they are the original, and for them to be treated like this,,if this is true then, MDA will answer to a higher power, and believe me the higher power, is the only one who will Judge, I think Israel have to really take a good look on itself, because they will have to answer to a higer authority, and HASHEM will surely give Justice.
