1. Shocking?
J K ,   NYC, USA   (11.08.06)
The Gazans spend their year plus without much Israeli interference smuggling in weapons, kidnapping soldiers and shooting off missiles and people are shocked when Israel defends itself and hosts operations to stop what the Fakestinians themselves refuse to halt? I will draw the distinction that Israel may hurt innocent civilians in an effort to protect themselves. These casulaties, though real, are ancillary to their main goal of eradicating the missile crews and stopping the kidnappers and smugglers. Contrast this with the Fakestinian offensive, those who fire missiles wildly hoping to hit someone or something, those who dig tunnels to kidnap people, and so on. If the Fakes turned off the tap, there would be a chance for peace. If Israel stops defending themselves, bye bye Israel. Terrible what happened to those 18 people. It's even worse that the terrorist keep inviting Israel back in. These mistakes of war are bound to happen, but they dont make Israel's desire to defend its own people any less moral.

Darfur village early in the morning of Oct. 29 The militia attacked three villages and one refugee camp, singling out mostly children, the witnesses said. Residents put the deal toll at 60. The United Nations put the toll at about 50. More than half the victims were children. They took the babies and children from their mothers' arms, beat the women, and shot the children," said Adam Gamer Umar. "They said, 'We're killing your sons and when you have more we will come and kill them too,' " he added. http://www.boston.com/news/world/africa/articles/2006/11/06/darfur_villagers_mourn_slain_children/ YALA: Four people were shot dead by suspected Islamic militants in Thailand's violence-torn south, police said Tuesday a day ahead of a peace-building visit to the troubled region by the new premier. FIVE people including two police officers were seriously wounded in three simultaneous bomb attacks at karaoke bars in Thailand's restive Muslim-majority south. Muzaffarabad, October 20, 2006: The dead body of Dr. Mehaboob, the missionary of At Anycost Jesus Mission in Pakistan found in Neelum river on October 18. He was 42 years of age. Two of his children Shalom and Sharon were brutally murdered and the dead bodies were burnt on 1st of September. ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia: Masked gunmen burst into the home of a well-known doctor and faith healer in the southern Russian region of Ingushetia on Monday and shot her dead, the Interior Ministry said. October 30 (Compass Direct News) – In a large-scale roundup the past week, Eritrean authorities have detained 150 Christians from at least five of the country’s outlawed churches. October 18 (Compass Direct News) – Eritrean security police tortured two Christians to death yesterday, two days after arresting them for holding a religious service in a private home south of Asmara October 12 (Compass Direct News) – Iraqi kidnappers who abducted a Syrian Orthodox priest three days ago left his beheaded corpse in an outlying suburb of the northern city of Mosul last night The list is endless-- but then they seem to be able to do whatever they want and then cry foul if retaliated against islam at its best and not a squeak from the left--but then the left have no morals at all
3. Kadima is decimating Israel through people pleasing

4. Sri Lanka Vs Israel
RyanH ,   Ashdod Israel   (11.08.06)
With Simultaneous incidents involving dead civilians lets see which country get more bad press and international critism. I am sure that many of you have not read about the 45 civilian people killed in Sri Lanka by a mortar shell today - Google it
5. Unfortunate deaths...
DR ,   Florida, USA   (11.08.06)
It is always sad to see innocent civilians get hurt, but the resposibility shouldn't be placed solely on Israel. Just as we saw with Hezballah in Beirut, Palestinians fire rockets from populated ares where they know there are women and children. How come nobody says anything about these scumbags who care less about innocent civilians than the devil himself? I would love to see what italy would do if rockest came raining down on Rome, Milan, or venice? Would they be kind to their enemies?
6. Israel Should Stop the Shelling
Ticked Off ,   Not the EU   (11.08.06)
Israel should stop the shelling and leave the defense of Sderot to non-sanctioned splinter groups. The Israeli government should put as much effort into capturing members of this non-sanctioned group as the (and I am using #1's term) Fakestinians do to capturing those shelling with their Qassams. It is high time for this. The EU won't have a leg to stand on. Of course, the Sderotese Militia will be armed with better rockets than the "Fakes".
7. Palistinians celebrate.
Joe B ,   Atlanta, GA   (11.08.06)
Today the palistinians are rejoicing at the death of their 'civilians' allegedly killed by Israel. It is clear from their actions that they desire international condemnation of Israel more than a safe invironment for their children. The way to stop Israel from going anywhere near gaza is to stop shooting hundreds of rockets at Israel. If you do not want to stop Israeli military action in Gaza, continue what you are doing.
8. "SHOCKING" IS WHEN 10,000 CARS ARE SET ON FIRE IN PARIS
andrew ,   miami,fl   (11.08.06)
9. EU's crap
Brod ,   USA   (11.08.06)
EU should stop meddling in Israel's internal affairs. Israel has all the rights in the world to defend itself against unrelenting rocket attacks from Islamist-Jihadist terrorists. Where was EU's outrage when Israelis were blown into bits by Islamist-Jihadist demon-possessed human bombs?
10. Where is the people who will protect Palestinians
pedro   (11.08.06)
they are not about... so when will they be about?... Maybe sooner than we know. A nuclear armed Iran might help Either we curb our excesses to harm Palestinian people or one day someone might hit us back.
11. Double Standard as usual
David ,   Jerusalem   (11.08.06)
Where have the Italian Foreign Minister and the Turkish Foreign Minister and all of Israel's other critcs been these past few months while Palestinian terrorists have been lobbing rockets into Israeli towns? As usual the world loves to see israel as the victim and express its "sympathy". Israel has the right to shoot back when attacked. It's a pity that the world can't stand seeing a Jew defend himself. It's a tragedy of war that children suffer while their parents in Gaza cheer on the terrorists every time they shoot a rocket into Israel.
12. 10 - Good question, wrong answer
NL ,   Israel   (11.08.06)
They're not about and when will they be about? you ask. Instead of answering that it will be about when the Palestinian leadership will start looking out for the welfare of its people, start focusing on internal growth instead of hatred towards Israel, then the Palestinians will have increased protection, because they will be moving towards peace. Instead, your erroneous and misguided solution is to take Iran, a bastion of tyranny and human rights abuses and protect the Palestinians with violence. This attitude, this constant choice by the Palestinians to immediately and consistently opt for violence is the exact problem that perpetuates their sad situation. Yes, Israel is forced sometimes to resort to force, but it has also made several initiated and unprecedented steps towards peace, both formally, from within the leadership and grassroots, with pro-peace groups. Perhaps if the Palestinian leadership or Palestinian civilian groups made even ONE real effort towards peace (Arafat's Oslo doesn't count, since he later admitted that it was a 'red herring') then they would finally be able to move towards a protected state. It is not we who have excesses to harm the Palestinians, but they who insist on having excesses in fanaticism and hatred Yes, they need to be protected, but from their historically proven urge to choose violence and violent leaders.
13. euarbians surrender to terrorism just like 1939
Arie ,   Afula   (11.08.06)
and expect us to walk quietly into the ovens again. NEVER AGAIN!
14. A reuters article? Why not just hamass daily?
Arie ,   Afula   (11.08.06)
I'm surprised ynet doesn't use aljazeera as its base source-they are as reliable as reuters.reuters ADMITTED to lying about Israel in lebanon and ynet decides to go witht he flow. I wonder if the 3 stooges have a personal stake in ynet?
15. Israel has NO need to apologize
Arie ,   Afula   (11.08.06)
Qassam lands near 'children's home' in Kibbutz, no injuries Published: 11.08.06, 14:26 Palestinian terror groups launched a Qassam rocket from northern Gaza which landed near a 'children's home' in a Kibbutz from Shaar HaNegev. No injuries or damage reported. (Shmulik Hadad)
16. Europe and UN display shocking chuzpah
Dan ,   Israel   (11.08.06)
Image how many more Jews that would be alive today if Europe and the world had been shocked and reacted to the extermination of 6 million Jewish men, women and children, including Jews from Arab countries. Millions have been massacred and mutilated in Sudan, in the rest of Africa and daily in Iraq. But why care when it is much more "fun" to attack the Jewish state for tis efforts to stay alive as an island of demoracy and civilization in a sea of despotism and barbarism. I hope that Paris and the rest of the hypocritcal Jew-haters in Europe will experience first hand their own Gaza-riots in the midst of Europe. It will be "fun" as an Israeli outside observer to see how "civilized" Europe will react to the buthering of women and children.
17. Europeans schocked. Who cares?
Isac ,   Florida   (11.08.06)
When Palestinian terrorists target purposely Israeli civilians and kill scores of people and maim many others and the Israeli responds, the Europeans say: keep the consequences in mind. But when the Israeli army mistakenly kill Palestinian civilians while eliminating terrorists, Europeans are "schocked". Hey dudes this is a war, and there is nothing nice about war.
18. Israel MUST CONTINUE Shelling Until The Arabs Stop Rockets
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.08.06)
shooting into Israel. There is ABSOLUTELY NO reason for Israel to apologize to them. If anything, the Arabs should apologize for the thousands of rockets they sent. Because our G-d is watching over us, doesn't mean they can do whatever they want. And to the Europeans: Where are you all this time when the Arabs shoot the rockets????
19. War Crimes...
Shlomo ,   Tel-Aviv   (11.08.06)
This is a Proof that What IDF is doing is Not Mistakes. you don't kill 18 people (including 7 childs) by mistake. What isreal is doing is War crimes against palestinians. and we demand Mr Olmert must Stop these Massacres
20. Hypocrites!
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (11.08.06)
This has to be almost as shocking as the V2's on London, the carpet bombing of Dresden, not to mention those famous "Arbeit macht frei" camps, none of which even bothered to promise any virgins to anybody. How many more UN resolutions does Haniyeh want with which he has no intentions to comply? Israel should stop fooling around and make sure there won't be anybody left to whine, complain and play it both ways.

23. Why Do Jews Apologise
Raymond ,   South Africa   (11.08.06)
I certainly dont condone any killings of civilian population groups anywhere in the world, but why should we apologise for this intentional or unintentional killings of Palistinian civilians, when their (Palestinian)aim is to constantly try and kill Jewish civilians with intent. Stop the quassam fire on innocent Jewish population centres & if you put all your energy of hatred into energy of love, you might find peace oneday.Just remember this, the state of Israel is Jewish lands-PERIOD.Go back to where you come from, you lie to yourselves, your Arab ancestory is from Egypt,Syria,Jordan,Saudi,Yemen, etc. It is you the so called "Palestinians" who occupy Jewish lands-GO HOME. AM YISRAEL CHAI
24. Inhumanity
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (11.08.06)
I cannot believe the amount of hatred and complete lack of humanity that radiates from most of these talkbacks. Enough with the same stupid arguments about human shields and cowardly fighters. Open your eyes for god's sake.
25. What happened when Palis killed 19 more more in bus bombing?
Shai ,   Israel   (11.08.06)
Nothing. That's not shocking to the EU, or anybody else I suppose. Ignore them. If they can't bleed when we bleed, only when the Palis bleed, then let them be shocked.
26. #19
indego   (11.08.06)
I hope your wish is fulfilled soon. after all your killer soldiers hide between civilians on buses and markets which using your logic justify the death of civilians.
27. world is being played
v. n.y. ,   usa   (11.08.06)
as long as kassam launching is done from inside civilian homes and as long as the launchers hide amongst innocent families, there is going to be a so called massacre of innocents. they know it, we know it, but the world is too stupid to rea;lize it. this is exactly what the palis are doing. sacrificing their own to show the world how terrible israle idf is. wake up world. you are being played!
28. #19 Are you stupid or what?
Dan ,   Israel   (11.08.06)
If Israel really wanted it could turn the whole Gaza strip and neighboring Arab countries into rouble. Israel has no interest and nothing to gain from accidently killing civilians. Hamas delibertately attacks Israeli civilians and abuses Arab civilians as human shields which was stressed a few days ago. The only people benefiting from this are the Arab propagandists who couln't care less about Israeli or Arab civilian lives and their criminal self-hating Jewish partners as well as the anti-Israeli "world community". People like you are a shame for Israel.
29. #1 Pals do not need your pity, you failed even to express
observer   (11.08.06)
Palestinians are gaining the respect of the whole world. Israel is losing it. The other day, the world was watching the unaermed elderly and young women risking their life to save their sons from the Israeli execuation sguade besieging the Mosque in Beit Hanoun. Palestinians are now gaining the respect in addition to the sympathy of the whole world.
30. So tired of "massacres" and "disproportionate"
Eran ,   NJ USA   (11.08.06)
This article truly epitomizes what's wrong with the world today, particularly with the media, and most of all with Europe's leaders. The Palestinians have been firing Kassam rockets from Gaza into Israel proper for years, with increasing frequency and range. Miraculously (and I am literally referring to divine intervention here), due to the relative simplicity and inaccuracy of these rockets, coupled with a high-tech early warning system Israel put in place, few have ever hit any serious structures (e.g. power plants, schools, etc...), and few if any deaths have resulted, though these continue to land in backyards, on people's homes, etc... But the ends here do not and should not excuse the means. The mere fact that a rockets get fired daily warrants a response; the mere fact that the shelling has gone on for so long and that residents of Sderot (the Israeli town constantly in range) are literally all shell-shocked and live in fear (especially the children) warrants a response; the mere fact that they are repeatedly trying to and COULD have hit schools, power plants, etc... warrants a respose. And this response does not need to be "proportionate," but rather needs to bring about an end to the shelling. I wonder how long the US (or Italy, per their Foreign Minister's brilliance below) would wait to retaliate if a foreign power (from who's "alleged land" they withdraw unilaterally not long ago) fired rockets daily into their airspace endangering their citizens. Wait, no need to wonder - soon after the US was hit, two countries disappeared. Most importantly, Israel should not have to wait until these rockets hit a strategic targe and/or cause dozens or hundreds of deaths before being allowed to retaliate by any means necessary to stop the shelling. That seems to be what the world is waiting for, and even then, as we saw during the recent Lebanon war, Israeli deaths don't count nearly as much as Arab deaths (perhaps because no one is afraid Israel will later terrorize in return or harbor those who terrrorize other countries' citizens). Has the media gone mad? 18 Palestinians die and it's a "massacre"?!? We didn't even hear that word used when 3,000 Americans died in the World Trade Center. The media and Europe's leaders (never mind Arab leaders) are out of their minds and have clearly lost complete touch with reality, the Europeans out of fear, and the Arabs out of anger and a false sense of empowerment stemming from religious zeal. Sucking up to these fanatics out of fear won't bring peace, and it won't stop the attacks, it'll simply bring more terror, more 9/11s, and bring us closer and closer to World War III, where the "west" will once again beg the US (if we're still standing by then) to save it from these Islamist militants (is that politcally correct enough for everyone?!?). God help us all, because no human alive seems to get it...
