I used to work for AOL (via their Netscape acquisition). I've seen firsthand while working there what they do to the companies they acquire: they migrate the technology, they piss off the employees into resignation, and they drive what was left of the company into the ground. Anyone even remember ICQ after AOL's management? I've worked for many famous tech companies, and AOL was just the worst employer imaginable.
