Simply marching isn't vilence and neither is marching outside the agreed upon parade route. The violence was on the part of the haredim trash who attacked those marchers. Megan, in Israel, the security level is very often high, and most days have some kind of holiday or commemoration related to them. There are no "good days" to hold a civil rights march. The fact is that many do not share your sensible view regarding gays. As a LEGAL fact, gays are seriously discriminated against in Israel. If there were no discrimination, marches would be unnecessary. The cost involved in protecting this parade is because of the weirdo proto-terrorists.
