NOT A RELIGION OF TERRORISM!
32. Don't take that path - Holland
RAGUSA   (11.12.06)
Holland was always in the lead concerning human rights. Don't take the path of intolerance. Security concerns is just the alibi for justifying this law. Security problems can easily be solved by other means. There are many things that may be to the dislike of others. I don't feel comfortable talking to people wearing burka, wearing mirrorglassed sunglasses, wearing thick shirts, black suits and funny hats or people who want to stand on my toes during conversation, but that does not give me the right to impose my standards on them. Sure, if they want to meet me, I can ask them to give me my comfort back or not meet with them, but making them criminals. NO WAY
33. Hi Richard :)
Lynne   (11.12.06)
nothing happened to me but the CD drive on my computer wasn't working so I sent my computer for repair.. and my posts were censored.. I don't know why.. I think there are taboo "subjects" which I'm not allowed to bring up in here!! males do use face covering to conceal their identities but for women it's sort of a cultural and partly religious thing .. I am not defending men who cover their faces.. my point is directed for women's face covering..what I'm saying is that when you're on the street nobody has the right to stop you from dressing up however you please.. there are many ways one could use to conceal his/her identity and the viel is not used for this purpose.. forcing women to take off their face viel will not bring about more security.. I see it more of a way to make Muslims in Europe feel more and more isolated in order to stop the wave of Europeans (especially women) who are adopting Islam.. Richard, it might make it difficult to communicate with a woman covering her face but you don't usually communicate with people on the streets!! under this logic I think no one should wear hats, sunglasses, or winter scarves!!
34. Mona #30..
Lynne   (11.12.06)
Mona, there are MILLIONS of ways you could use for disguise and it's not just the viel that is used for such a purpose.. and this is what I don't understand.. in France school girls were not allowed in because their HAIR covering was regarded as a religious symbol.. although in all religions a woman is in one way or another asked to cover her hair.. and every now and then a new European country decides that Muslim women should not cover their faces.. I don't believe in this saying.. "when in Rome do as Romans do".. I believe that when in Rome RESPECT what Romans do but you should do according to your own standards and morals.. diversity is essential in human life.. without our differences from A to Z we will end up nothing but carbon copies of one another and THIS is what will stop us from communication..
35. Linda.. you contradict yourself..
Lynne   (11.12.06)
you have no right to ask for your rights in our countries when you are defending a law that reduces our rights!! Westerners have their rights and more in Arab and Muslim countries.. excluding Saudi Arabia which I don't approve of many things about ..

I am glad you are Ok. I don't know what your country you are in, so I don't know your situation. Don't give it out if it will be a problem for you. During the 34 day war, some Lebanese wrote about Hezbullah, then suddenly disappeared. I pray they are safe. I think there are some words that will not make it thru the Ynet filters. Most of the people who write in regularly get censored from time to time. Lynne, do you wear a veil in public? In my part of the world, Muslim women did not even wear head scarves until recently. On the veil, you and I will just have to agree that we disagree on this one. It was not required by Allah, thru Muhammad, therefore it has nothing to do with Islam. Imans who set forth fatwas for women to wear the veil are overstepping their authority. As for individual freedom, wear it if you like. It may be the PC thing to do where you are from. Culturaly, here in the West, it sends a very negative message.

Lynne   (11.12.06)
I live in the UAE Richard so don't worry.. I'm not in a war region.. maybe those who were posting in here during the Lebanese war were posting because the war was actually going on.. when it stopped there was nothing else they had to say.. I don't know.. I hope everyone would be fine whether an Israeli or a Lebanese.. everyone deserves to live safely.. no matter what beliefs they have.. who told you that the veil was not required by GOD in Islam? in the Qura'n 33:39 it says: ‘O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies that is most convenient that they should be known and not molested: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful." I do not wear a veil although I jknow that I should but I feel that when I decide to wear a veil I should be able to represent my religion in the right way in everything I do.. so it's more of a responsibility to me than just a religious obligation.. it only started to send a negative message after 9/11 and the ugly attacks done under the cover of Islam that followed.. now Muslims in the West are guilty of being Muslims in the first place.. peace to you :)

Once again, I am at a disadvantage when speaking of Islam. I only read about it, you live it. I can not quote chapter and verse, but once I read a Hadith were Muhammad told a young woman ( who had worn revealing colthing in front of him) that she was to cover everything except for "this and these", meaning her face and hands. You would know far more than me, so I stand corrected. As I said, it doesn't matter to me. There was a Christian woman who called herself "Lebanese Girl" who wrote about the terrible things going on in her village by Hezbullah during the war. She wrote under duress. Many of us tried to encourage her. She suddenly stopped posting anything, and I prayed for her safety. Culturally speaking, we in the West look each other in the eye and greet one another when passing in public. Even if it is just a nod, or some other non-verbal body language, we acknowledge each other. It is considered rude not to do so. It is expected more of men than women. Any facial covering, not just a veil, used to conceal one's face is viewed with suspicion. Ski masks (when it is not very cold), very large sunglasses, hoods covering the face (when it is not very cold), or any combination of such things is recieved as abnormal. I say this not to offend, but to inform. My daughter has gone on five missionary journeys. She had to learn the cultural taboos in each country she visited. She had to be most careful in India. In the part of India she was in, a woman could be naked from the waist up and no one would hardly notice. Yet, if she showed her legs above the ankles, she was considered a whore. More to come...
39. Lynne, Qur'an 33:39??
Richard ,   Open Range, USA   (11.13.06)
I looked this up. Sorry, my translation does not say anything like that. Qur'an 33:36-43 speaks of Muhammad marrying Zayd's divorced wife and how Allah authorized it. In Qur'an 24:31 my translation says women are "to draw their veils over their bosoms..." Most Muslims tell me I have a bad translation. You probably will, too. I'll send another comment to make sure some of this gets past the censor. Peace unto you, also :)
40. Lynne, part 3
Richard ,   Open Range, USA   (11.13.06)
I have noticed that our conversations are usually constricted by the context of the ynet news story we are at. Usually one of us has their "ire" up due the nature of the story or because of other commentators. Then there is the censor we have to work around. It would be nice to find some other site to visit at.
41. Sheikh yer Bu'Tay!! oops!!
Lynne   (11.13.06)
I'm sorry Richard, the verse I'm referring to is 33:59 .. the one you provided is another proof from the Qur'an regarding the veil.. I do not usually approve of translations in the Qur'an as a whole because the translator would provide his own personal interpretation.. part of the Qur'an's miracle is in its use of Arabic language.. so until now there are many different interpretaions of the Qur'an.. anyway I really appreciate your will to understand the Qur'an and the Muslim way of thinking.. I usually reccomend Yusuf Ali's translation.. I find it the closest to my understanding.. yes, this Hadith is right , some scholars say that a woman could reveal her face and hands only in prayer (according to this Hadith).. for me, I see that I might one day cover my hair but covering all my face.. I feel it's a cultural thing which I don't have to do.. I don't know about the Lebanese Girl you're talking about.. when the war on Lebanon errupted I was taking my exams in Syria.. and later on I went to Germany so I wasn't posting in here.. whoever she is I hope she's fine.. wow!! I never heard of this in India!! I know that they reveal part of their abdomen .. LOL.. why are you saying this? "Usually one of us has their "ire" up due the nature of the story or because of other commentators. " did I say something harsh to you?? I'm sorry if I did.. you know I really respect you and I try to show this in my conversations with you.. no problem.. what other site would you reccomend ? although I think there are some monsters in here who should try to learn how to have a decent dialogue with someone you you conradict!!.. oh.. how's your back injury ?
42. Richard..
Lynne   (11.13.06)
I fogot to reply to your point that in Western communities you would nod or smile to someone on the streets.. this is true in America but not in Europe which we are discussing in here..

44. Dear Lynne,
Richard ,   Open Range, USA   (11.14.06)
You may find this one hard to believe, but it is a true story. Some thirty years ago (wow, that makes me sound old!) I watched a documentary film on public broadcasting. It was a film about a Saharan/African country where it is very hot. The people of the village were African Muslims with bony black skin and all the men who worked outside in the hot sun wore no shirts. Nor did the women! The film makers were amazed at the village customs. The women wore scarves and veils, skirts to the ankle, and sandels. From the waist to the shoulder, they were naked! The film makers were sternly warned not to try to see the women's faces, and if they were caught taking photos or film of the women, they would have been killed! Of course, once having been told not the do something, they just had to do it! LOL! They filmed the women in secret and made it part of their movie. I can still see part of the movie now. The young women carrying earthen water jars and baskets on their heads, walking very erect and at a steady gaite, their garments flowing in the breeze, the desert mountains in the background brightly lit by the early morning sun. It was a very beautiful scene! Of course, being a young man from America, I sat there with my mouth open, LOL! I am glad you do not wear the hajib or veil out of social pressure to do so. You are a strong willed person, I can't imagine you doing anything you don't want to! I looked up Qur'an 33:59. Both your's and mine use almost the same words. Both do use the word "molested". There are many stories out of Egypt, Austrailia, Norway, Denmark, etc. about men raping women to punish them for not wearing the hajib. Be careful where you exercise your freedom. Wow! It sounds like you travel a lot. You must be part of the "jet set"! :) Look at #43. See what I mean? In this situation, one of us is always put on the defensive. My back still bothers me from time to time, but it is getting better. I must do about 2 hrs. of exercise every day to strech and strengthen it. Boring! Soon, this story will cycle off Y-net's list. Then we will have to find another. Y-net's "Global Terror Desk" storys cycle much slower. Why not meet me there? How about the story: "Expert, Prepare for War." Okay?
45. Richard :)
Lynne   (11.14.06)
hehehe.. while you were watching this film thirty years ago I didn't exist!! LOL.. but seriously, it is hard to believe.. I have never heard of this.. can you tell me what exactly is this place? the fact that I do not wear a veil is not because I'm a rebel or something of that sort.. quite the opposite I am in harmony with my religion and culture and I'm very attached to it.. actually no one ever told me to wear a veil. this is another thing people in the West do not ubderstand about us.. women are not forced to wear a veil in most Muslim countries.. it is a personal thing.. in some families a girl might be pressured to do so but this is more out of certain family members.. you happen to hear that women are pressured to wear a veil because those are the occasional incidents.. what the media chooses to publish is not an incident where a dog bites a man but rather when a man bitest a dog!! most of those stories about raping unveiled women are either exaggerated or carried out by sick individuals.. the verse that tells Muslim women to wear a veil so as not to be molested says this out of Islam's respect for a woman and this does not mean that unveiled Muslim women should be molested!! rape happens everywhere, by anyone, all over the world.. this is why all religions ask women to cover up.. so please Richard do not associate rape with Muslims!! well, I do travel a lot.. to Europe basically.. I lived a few months in Norway.. it's a beautiful country.. I usually tend to ignore people like #43.. because if I reply I will have to reply rudely which doesn't suit my standards!! LOL.. ok.. I'll read your reply on this over there.. hope you get well soon:) no more roof climbing.. hehehe..

It wasn't meant to be rude. It was meant to tell it like it is. What IS rude is Holland's no-go areas.
47. The Great Satan!!
Lynne   (11.14.06)
I don't like using this name on anyone.. but that's what you wish to call yourself.. what are Holland's no-go areas? who should the Dutch take their country back from? I don't understand how Westerners manage to do this.. they occupy Muslim lands and then run around complaining that Muslims are conquering them!!!
48. Lynn
The Great Satan ,   USA   (11.15.06)
We wouldn't be in muslims lands if the radicals had not declared Death to America, Lynn. Muslims are involved in over 8 violent conflicts around the world as we speak. In Sweden, Muslims claim they will rule the world in 2030. I, for one, have started listening to these radicals' claims.
49. The Great Satan!
Lynne   (11.15.06)
look.. I know that those radicals are giving my religion a bad name.. I feel more hurt and anger from them than you do.. but I do not accept this being generalised on Islam and Muslims as a whole.. radicals exist in every race and religion.. Islam does not ask Muslims to conquer the World or any of that nonsense.. Islam believes in Pluralism.. 049.013 O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). 005:048 If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. Taliban was in the first place supported by the US when they were fighting the USSR under the name of "Mujjahedin" .. ie.. those radical movements appeared due to political circumstances and not due to religious teachings.. how could they rule the world??? those groups do not even have the technology to rule in their own countries!!
50. Ban It
Billybiglift ,   england   (11.18.06)
I would ban religion. Its all superstition.
51. Hollands attempt to ban the veil
An American Muslimah ,   USA   (11.27.06)
As a Muslim woman observing the veil I'm quite appauled that a ban on veil is being considered for the reasons the ban is being considered. If the ban of veil is because of a threat to security, shouldn't the ban involve bikinis, shorts, short skirts, baggy pants, long skirts, etc.? Short skirts, bikinis, halters, and shorts represent prostitution and infedility which pose threat to the security of people's lives through the spread of life threatening communicable diseases and the disease of corruption of values to all society claiming to believe in God. Baggy clothing, long coats, and knee-length skirts can easily conceal weapons. Do you see my point here? Religion, particularly Islam isn't to be blamed, therefore it's really not correct to ban the rights of those people observing religious practices all because some people, representing non religious crimes, are abusing the right in order to carry out their crimes. Nuns observe religious attire which also could conceal weapontry, so is it correct to ban a nun from wearing her religious attire? Governments are only capable enough of justifying their actions while their people are not wise enough with skills to involve rhetoric. Blind following, it seems!
52. Muslim countries force non muslim women to wear the veil so
rachel ,   usa   (12.18.06)
please don't complain about countries who don't want women to have the veil ....The veil is now used as a political statement .
