If you'd be a Rabbi (an orthodox one, of course) you would have no problem seeing the problem. "let rabbis be rabbis." That's exactly what that Rabbi was doing. The Jewish Law is not only: "as long as his/her actions do not infringe upon the freedom and rights of other people." Shabbat, kashrut, tefillin, morality, etc. etc. etc. are all part of the same Torah. The Rabbis have the obligation to make sure it's adhered to properly.

Many on the left and right claim animals have intelligence, emotions, self-awareness, likes and dislikes, and even rights. So, if this is true, can someone PLEASE tell me where the rabbi's analogy was flawed? He was not - I believe - comparing homosexuals to animals, but comparing homosexual relations to bestial relations. And he could just as easily have compared, say, anonymous sex to bestiality on the same basis - that it is strictly to serve an animal instinct, rather than to serve a higher purpose.
