1. another 15 years of hopeless negotiations, nice achievement
jean ,   Dallas   (11.14.06)
UN ultimatum to Israel, backed by force, to end Israeli occupation once and for all, will resolve Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a couple of hours, Mr. President.
2. James A. Baker, III - Bad news for Israel
Jeff ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (11.14.06)
He and his minions will convince Bush to convene a conference and he will deal Israel's security to placate those dark forces that will not end the conflict with Israel and bring death and grief to everyone. Baker can do a lot of damage in the next two years.
3. U.S. cannot be considered a neutral third party
Jamlo ,   USA   (11.14.06)
U.S. = Israel and Israel = U.S. when I say this, I'm refering to the U.S. during the Bush [rotten] era True negotiations have to be transparent and open. An international convention for PEACE is the ONLY way to go (that's if Israel really wanted peace). However, Israel wants to erradicate the Palestinian race, and take hold of all land originally known as Palestine. That's why Israelis will never seriously seek peace.
4. In other words...
LEE ,   NY, USA   (11.14.06)
They agreed to sit down and "talk" with the Iranians. We have reached a dead-end and Olmert doesn't have the spine to do what's needed. A pre-emptive strike is the only solution left. In truth, Iran is a real threat to the entire free world, but in the short-term Israel has more to lose than anyone else and therefore it is Israel's right and obligation to defend its people. We cannot nor should we rely on any other power, even the great U.S. of A. Its time we had leaders who can step up to the plate. If we don't do it, no one will.
5. Bush and Olmert have betrayed us all
Grave Concerns ,   Perth, Australia   (11.14.06)
It is obvious what the oil hags of the Iraq Study Group are going to recommend. Blair and Howard have already gotten their memos, and now the mantra is 'Talk to Syria, Talk to Iran'. This is a victory for the terrorists of epic proportions. Bush would jump off a cliff if old Jim Baker told him to. At a time when Israel needs a leader who will say 'no Mr President, it is a mistake to deal with people who are plotting a new Holocaust', all we have is Olmert the political gamesman. Betrayed - everybody who lives in Tel Aviv and New York. They will be the recipients of the first two nuclear mushroom clouds. Betrayed - the hundreds of thousands of men and women who will die in the fighting afterwards. There can only be a few years of false peace, when we face the clear inheritor of the Nazi mantle in the Persian regime of Ahmadinejad. He is a rabid Aryan fantasist who mocks the Holocaust and dreams of the destruction of Israel like Nasrallah dreams about fried chicken. We have all been sold out, by Jim Baker and the Bush clan. These people are addicted to oil and money. Olmert dreams of a Nobel peace prize, a pat on the back from Soros, and perhaps even that Bashar will let our abducted soldiers out of their cages in Syria. So Ahmadinejad is allowed to become Hitler before our very eyes. Both were underestimated to begin with, and you can expect Ahmadinejad and Nuclear Persia to be no less terrifying than Hitler and Nazi Germany. Before he was chastened by midterm defeat, Bush was an unreliable bungler of the first order, but at least he was trying to do the right thing. Now that we have the incoming Hippy Congress, standing up to Persia will be a lonely business.
6. Was Bush Really Placed on the Defensive
Dave Levi ,   Burbank. USA   (11.14.06)
I think not. All Olmert said was that getting rid of Saddam's regime was good for the moderate (Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc) countries and brought some stability to Iraq. AND, aided Israel (which is well known, taking, for the time being, Iraq out of Israel's dangerous neighbors. I didn't read that he encouraged a lenghty stay by US by any means. What was discussed was an overall of the general M.E. problem, vis a vie Israel., Iran, Syria and the Palestinians. and how to achieve some semblence of peace. Talking to the Palestinians (Abbas) is better than continued fighting., as is talking to Syria, to avoid fighting. Talking is fine to a point, but action is better. The Road Map's formula, 2 states is problematic but worth moving towards. Perhaps with peace, Israel could: stop raids into Gaza, tear down parts of the fence, remove some settlement outposts, relate more normally with the Palestinian Arabs, allow for some adjustments in borders; give Arabs a choice of where to live (Palestine or Israel), negotiate some minor right of return, sign peace treaties with other Muslim countries and establish diplomatic relations, and international pressure on Hezbollah through UNIFIL (genunie); stop the overflights and HAVE A ENFORCED DEMILITARIZATION OF THE PALESTINIAN AREAS, PERHAPS BY NATO. Israel would be giving, but the Arabs must give also, not a hudna, but a true peace, enforceable. The above would end 100 years of tensions. Iran's ambitions to produce an atomic bomb would first have to be curtailed, to make this work however. Syria's demand for all the Golan Heights could be modified to ensure Israeli security against a land invasion by that country (Syria still has over 700 Scuds). I ask, what are the alternatives to peace in the area, another and more deadly Lebanon crisis?
7. US Not Neutal
Dave Levi ,   Burbank. USA   (11.14.06)
I don't remember when the Bush administration ever gave Israel unqualified support, and has been pressuring Israel for 6 years. However, we (the US) are for Israel's survival and flourishment and against pressuring them which would hurt the overall security. We (the US) are NOT a NEUTRAL, unbiased participant in this crisis, and never were. So why all the excitement over this? However(Bush) is calling for a 2 state solution, with both Jewish and the new small Arab state living side by side in peace. We supply Israel with state of the art weapons, AND, we supply Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the Gulf States heavily. In fact, the combined Arab armies are over 5 times that of Israel, not to include Muslim Iran and Arab Iraq. Israel is a recognized member of an albeit prejudiced UN and a sovereign country, created by the UN. We should also remember that the US forced Israel out of the Sinai and Lebanon (twice). So where is the total support of Israel, I ask. The US has also restrained Israel's retaliation, causing many Israeli (Jewish) deaths, something unfortunate. This is not about US neutraligy, it's about bringing about a true peace in the area. In effect, the US has supported both Jewish (Israel) and Arab sides since 1948. Let us not forget Bush 1, Jimmy Carter and Eisenhower, all very much pro-Palestinian Arab.
8. Olmert must attend a peace conference!!
Mark ,   USA   (11.14.06)
Anyone that wants peace would attend a peace conference. Shame on Olmert!! He is a disgrace.
9. #1 Jean - Siding with terrorists would solve NOTHING.
Elana ,   LA, USA   (11.14.06)
"UN ultimatum to Israel, backed by force, to end Israeli occupation once and for all, will resolve Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a couple of hours, Mr. President." No, it wouldn't. Hamas swears to end Israel's existence no matter what Israel does. Are you stupid or evil? I suspect you're evil because it's our enemies who always speak of "FORCING" Israel to give in to mass murderers.
10. Like they did Hizbullah.
1.5 Billions muslims   (11.14.06)

11. #5: After Iraq war, this crap doesn’t fool any one
ka ,   usa   (11.14.06)
2/3 of Europeans see Israel, not Iran or North Korea, is a threat to world’s stability & security. And that was before Israeli terror campaigns in Lebanon & Gaza. Why don’t you & your fellow Zionists or Australia fight this one for Israel. We had our share of dead and wounded in a war-for-Israel in Iraq.
12. International Peace Conferences ONLY MEAN WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elana ,   LA, USA   (11.14.06)
Olmert must NOT attend an international peace conference. Such a conference ONLY MEANS WAR. There is no possibility of peace at such a meeting. None whatsoever.
13. Civilisation
Aleem Baksh ,   New Zealand   (11.14.06)
Hi, from the current trend after elections in the US, I forsee the unciviled countries from Middle East civilising the "so called civilised western world" who have been murdering hundreds of thousands of simple country people ( so called insurgents)
14. NO NUKES for people who love death rather than loving life.
Richard James ,   NY, USA   (11.14.06)
All those countries whose people brag that they love DEATH in the way that the civilized world loves LIFE can not be allowed to have nukes.
15. #13 Aleem - you are lying to yourself.
Elana ,   LA, USA   (11.14.06)
It's the Arabs who have been murdering Arabs by the many thousands in Iraq. Every day, more Arabs are found tortured and murdered (or blown up) by other Arabs. Arabs admit doing it. They brag about it. They regard the Arab murders by other Arabs as a victorious battle against civilization. Never in my life have I seen daily news where people (Arabs) glorify murder in the way that the Arabs in Iraq are doing when they murder other Arabs.
16. The suicide bombings in Iraq are Arab-vs-Arab violence.
Richard James ,   NY, USA   (11.14.06)
Same with the beheadings and other torture. Iraq is the victim of Arab terrorism.
17. Lapdog.
Jeremiah ,   Israel, Jewish Land   (11.14.06)
18. Big deal - 'no international peace convention'
Uzi   (11.14.06)
The supid assumption is that 'Israel must make painful concessions' to convince Arabs and others to talk peace, let alone make peace, because otherwise they won't. Maybe Israel should say: tfadal, let's talk, what concessions you make to convince us to talk and make peace. Similar approach should be taken in interaction with pressuring 'friends'.
19. #5
The Great Satan ,   USA   (11.14.06)
What is it with the Brits, Canucks and Aussies, such an inferiority complex. Always refusing to take responsibility for their own country's actions and calling their leaders lap dogs.
20. Quite simple and transparent
Ilan ,   Ariel   (11.14.06)
The Arabs want an international conference because they want to impose a solution where Israel makes all the concessions and receives nothing in return. The Israelis oppose it because despite everything, we are not complete idiots.
21. meeting of little minds
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.14.06)
When two idiots meet, we should have reason for concern
22. No peace conference!
kal ,   belfast   (11.14.06)
There is no need and nothing to negotiate. America must to tell israel observe UN resolutions and get out of Palestine NOW!
23. Yeah everything is fine so why event hink of the idea !
fadi ,   lebanon   (11.14.06)
24. well said 3- jamlo

25. Terrorism
jet li ,   uk   (11.14.06)
BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS Terrorist School Teacher Arrested, as reported first onCNN NEW YORK- A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez said he believes the man is member of the notorious Al-gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of mathinstruction. "Al-gebra is a problem for us," Gonzalez said. "They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute value. They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns', but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle." When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes."
26. US not neutral
Sal ,   USA   (11.14.06)
Dave, what planet do you live on? Israel is still in the Sinai and in Lebanon. The US did an amazing job of "restraining" Israel when they bombed Lebanon back to the stoneage. The only Arabs that the US supports are the puppet governments which oppress their peoples' and receive millions of dollars to do the US's wishes.
27. #20 Peace is better then War
Mark ,   USA   (11.15.06)
28. Israel doesn't want peace, they want the land
American ,   America   (11.15.06)
Of course Israel doesn't want a conference. They don't want peace, they want the land. Israel wll do anything to NOT have to negotiate. If they negotiate then they could possibly lose something they've already stolen. To make sure that there is no chance of that, they will not negotiate. They will make any and every excuse for why they can't sit down and talk, even though they claim to be the more civilized people. Israel is a disease. There is only one cure.
29. Response: Bush & Olmert have betrayed us all
Jim ,   Chicago, IL   (11.15.06)
I don't know who "us all" refers to, but it certainly can't refer to the "International Jewry," since we all know that there is no organized conspiracy... right? In any event, it is about time that the U.S. started looking after its own interests rather than the right wing Israeli Zionists. We've already lost enough young men in Iraq and a good part of our treasury trying to provide Israel with a strategic advantage in the Middle East. The real traitors are AIPAC and all the neocons in the Bush Admin. And you will soon see Bush & Congress cleaning house (i.e. Rumsfeld)... pursuant to the electorate's wishes. So, I suggest that all Zionists give up their dreams of a Greater Israel & start thinking about a real peace with the Palestinians, Arabs & Persians. God Bless America & God Bless the World.
30. Jews for Israel
Hyman Lipshit ,   SD USA   (11.15.06)
Why do so many American Jews speak of Israel with propriety? To what country are you a citizen? Israel's security should remain the concern of Israel's citizens, it should not concern American Jews. Our country is bankrolling Israel and we get a deficit in the purchase. Let us put America first second and third--and leave other nations alone. Vide the prime directive.
