1. Blair Fails To Tell The Truth For Some Respite
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (11.14.06)
Blair loses all his credibilty when he jumps on the bandwagon that the war between the PA and Israel is the nexus for the Islamic jihadists. He knows very well that if heaven forbid Israel were to disappear, the Islamists would seek to kill the rest of the infidels worldwide. He is only seeking some breathing room so that the Euros would not be attacked in the interim. Clearly he hasn't learned a thing from the sacrificing of Czeckoslovakia.
2. Keeping the Peace is Expanding Jewish Settlement
Steve ,   USA   (11.14.06)
B"H So long as the Arab states are not tolerant of Israel, I do not see there being peace with Lebanon which has a mix of Christian and Muslim populations. It is intolerance that is the source of the violence. It is rediculous to expect that "solving Israel" will create peace in the Middle East. Just as moving the Jews out of Gaza created a war, because the Jews have a calming effect rather than the opposite, lack of support of Jewish settlement also promotes war in the region instead of calm. That is because lack of support of Jewish settlement is support of bigotry, the support which leads to warfare and intolerance. Creating peace in Gaza and Israel means checking the sources of violence, no matter how numerous. Once these sources of violence know their red lines, there will be peace, because the option of violence will not be one that would be seen as reaping any benefits. Quote: "On the contrary, a whole-region policy should start with Israel/Palestine. That is the core. We should then make progress on Lebanon. We should unite all moderate Arab and Muslim voices behind a push for peace in those countries but also in Iraq," he said.
3. Blair great understanding is manifested in home-grown jihad.
sk ,   USA   (11.14.06)
Yes, he certainly understands Islam-related conflict, as can be seen in the spectacular job UK has done in defusing it at home (I forget, was that 1,000 or 10,000 home-grown Islamic terror plots found by MI-5 recently?). Note that this growth of UK terror has occurred under Blair's very long watch. And we should pay attention to this bozo?
4. Blair bloviates. Stop scapegoating israel alone.
JW ,   NY, USA   (11.14.06)
Blair's dangerous babel about Israel being the root cause is meant to distract from his own Muslim problem on his home turf. Think Iran w/ nuclear weapons should be of greater concern to Europe than the fate of the EU-pampered terrorists in Gaza. With or w/o Israel on the map, Britain is facing it's own time-clock & dhimmimitude should Iran go nuclear. So focus Blair, & either support Israel in its existential battle or leave israel alone to defend itself w/o added obstacles from the pusillanimous ostriches of the UK, et el.

So how will anybody "persuade" the people who keep that stew stirred up to help "defuse" anything?? Watch out, Isreal, there goes the Golan Heights.
6. Blair and Palestine
A.D.Johnson ,   San Diego, Cal   (11.14.06)
The Israeli/Palestinian conflict is job 1 for world peace. Everyone should be obligated to see "O Jerusalem" to experience the seeds of this problem, which can destroy the world if we do not act decisevely and fairly. The 1948 creation of the state of Israel did not evisage the expansion of Israel to its current size, nor the complete dislocation and destruction of the Palestinian society. Ben Gurion had one idea, and it was reasonable; the Irgun and the Stern Gang planted terrorism and expansion as basic tenets of the new Israeli state, provided two prime ministers, and destabilized the area forever. Americans have no knowledge of this important history. The nuclear threat now is Israel - with hundreds of nuclear weapons and delivery systems, the entirety of the area and world is threatened. If they don't intend to use them, then they should not have them. We have witnessed too many Israeli "mistakes" that have resulted in carnage; a nuclear "mistake" could indeed happen. A co-prosperity sphere in the area is the answer, not the destruction of the surrounding societies and civilizations. Force your neighbors to live like animals, and expect them to behave like animals toward you. The time has come for heroic measures to give all the peoples of the area to succeed economically with dignity. If the US and other members of the UN have to guarantee the borders of Israel as it was intended to be, then that should be done, and quickly. Out of Iraq, and redeploy to Palestine/Israel; this is a do-able task, definable. If a survivable Palestine is created - not a transected, economically compromised, gerrymandered mess - then the recognition of Israel and rejection of violence would follow, and a very understandable rallying cry for radical Islam would be neutralized. The alternative is for Israel to expand exponentially so that she has no borders with anyone but herself - up to Greece, down to the Nile, east to the Tigris and Euphrates or even on to India. The reality on the ground is that Israel and its neighbors must develop a plan to live with each other. Do not get trapped into believing and taking advantage of the rhetoric emanating from the area - let the international communikty make some substantial recommendations as quickly as possible. Does anyone really believe the solution is to destroy Iran - or Syria? This could only be done with nuclear weapons - Iraq has demonstrated that quite candidly.
7. You people are so blind. blaming israel....thats sad.
(11.14.06)
8. What a loser
Abu Goldstein   (11.14.06)
And the sad thing is, he'll be followed by an even more spinless PM who will turn Britain into another France and beyond. I think it would be safe to predict that in a couple decades, the ever shrinking non-muslim european population will be running from the continent. Australia and Canada better get ready for a flood of refugees.
9. The main problem of the Middle East.....
Ishak Haskiya ,   Roskilde - Denmark   (11.14.06)
is massive Islamic frustration in every field: sciences, economy, defense, social situation and so on. Israel is the example of success in the midst of Islam and this is intolerable. It is also intolerable that "infidel" Western World has become so powerful. The solution of the situation between Israel and Arabs will not change much in this massive universal frustration.
10. Traitor Blair
RyanH ,   Ashdod Israel   (11.14.06)
Blair understands the issues around Islamic terror. His much applauded address given in Los Angeles a few fews ago showed the depth of his understanding - Yet he said then as he is now that Israel is an exception. Blair wants to sacrifice Israel on the Alter of European peace just like Chamberlain did to Czechoslovakia. He knows this will not solve the issue it will just remove some leftist support from the Islamic cause
11. peace offer
isiaiah   (11.14.06)
all the israelis can do is a land swap umm al fahm and its surrounds to palestine a secured shared jerusalem and the betterment of palestinian arab life . after generations of conversion of the peoples to a common humanism one land for many peoples is the best .
12. Another Blood Libel from a Hypocrite
Semsem ,   New York, USA   (11.14.06)
Blair trys to portray himself as a friend of Israel which he really isn't. He's a two faced hypocrite and a liar. To blame Israel for the Wests problems is an antisemitic blood libel.
13. AD Johnson is the best example
ash ,   gush etzion   (11.14.06)
...of someone who wants something so much to be true that he will invent facts and ignore others to prove his supposition. begin gave away more land than any israeli prime minister possibly could. shamir led israel to the madrid conference which began the peace process and recognised the palestinians. so how can two prime ministers override all the others, of course no reason is given. israel does not need nuclear weapons so she can use them but to have a qualitative edge over her neighbours who seek to destroy her. if you dont understand that you have no understanding of a regional political strategy. of course no mention is made here of the fact that only yesterday the government of the palestinians UNEQUIVOCALLY said they will never recognise israel. so now what A.D?????
14. Blair Babbling Rubbish
John ,   NZ   (11.14.06)
.. persuade Iran and Syria to help diffuse violence in Iraq? They are the ones which incite violence in Iraq and chaos around the world. Other than Bush, Bolton and Bibi, there's hardly any world politician who dares to stand up against those insurging terrorists. The rest are just pussies and notably, Blair is one of them
15. Translation
Sigfried S. Kuhn ,   Aberdeen   (11.14.06)
Most people are basically self-serving. Essentially decent teenagers commit sadistic acts of cruelty towards scapegoated teens in order to be accepted or left alone by the popular or powerful crowd. Bright college students often condone the sadistic behavior displayed by fraternity members towards pledges and the pledges endure humiliation and physical abuse in order to be accepted by the group. This core behavior does not change with most people as they mature. Thus, we saw the "realistic" European leaders in the 1930's essentially agree to the destruction of Czechoslovakia by Hitler in order to avoid doing the right thing. Church and governmental leaders did virtually nothing to stop the persecution of Jews in nazi Germany. As a matter of fact, so-called government officials actually sabotage the rescue of European Jews. At the same time, influential Jews such as the owners of the NY Times selfishly refused to use their power to pressure the government to help victims of the Holocaust by cowardly and cynically refusing to publicize the ongoing genocide. Blair's speech, and the appointment of "realistic" politicians such as James Baker and Lee Hamilton show that the essential realistic policy will essentially seek to appease evil by pressuring Israel to make unilateral concessions to its sworn enemies that will place it in mortal danger. Like the former "realists" of the 1930's who misread Hitler's intentions despite the rants of Mein Kampf, today's "realists" in Europe and America choose to ignore the declarations of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran's leaders and are willing to allow a catastrophe to another nation to save their own skins. The problem is that just as Hitler wasn't satisfied with Czechoslovakia, radical Islam is not going to be satisfied with destroying Israel.
