I greatly appreciate that the author of this article is able to identify some weakness in the Israeli society. However, such things are present in every country; perhaps not exactly the same, but somehow close. In many of the aspects mentionned here, Arab countries are way worse. As for the argument presented here about the intrisic discrimination to the Israeli society, it emerges from a simple fact: Israel is a country that was built for jews and by jews, with a strong religious background. Is it good? Is it bad? Opinions on that diverge, but we can't deny that it is true. Israel, by its very nature, is an apartheid country. Good day to you all.

The author, although airing our dirty laundry, has made a valid point. Unfortunately, Israel maintains a racist core that exceeds that of other western societies. Israelis have shown contempt for the Sepharadi Jew and the Arab. Its contempt for the Sepharadi Jew is well documented in Israeli history and is continued today by the secular Israeli Ashkenazi minority that alligned itself with the Shinui movement earlier this decade. Its contempt for the Arab is exemplified in its approach to resolving the Palestinian issue. At firt, Israel though that the Arabs on Jewish land will embrace the Jewish state and forego nationalism because Israel will bring indoor toilets and European culture to the Middle East. It continues in this racist belief by failing to recognize that the Arabs on Jewish land do not want to give up what they believe is their land. The two state solution is a racist solution. The Arab will not give up what he thinks is his - not for indoor plumbing and not because Jews settled Tel Aviv and have big guns. He wants it all because he believes it is all his. The solution must be a one state solution. The question Israel faces is what is what will be the character of this one state.

There is not a single country on earth where you cannot find people to say extraordinarily stupid things or to believe extraordinarily stupid things. The point is that portraying the character in the way he does creates the impression that all Kazakhs are like that, an impression that is made easy to believe because many people have never knowingly met a Kazakhs. It is clearly racism, although one can make the case that its a newly designed form of it. To suggest however, that the movie could have been made about Israel is equally wrongheaded. Yes there are many crazy views in Israel, but not any crazier than views that can be heard on streetcorners everywhere in the world. The whole point is NOT to stereotype any particular group.
