Boneheaded blunders by Rumsfeld finally forced his resignation when it became apparent that he had no clue about winning the war. Remeber, we are talking about a US force composed entirely of volunteers in a non-existential war. Although every American life is precious, the number of Americans killed compared to the comparative number of Israelis killed since Oslo is small. Yet the American people, seeing the folly of the current course, voted for a change. The government of Israel is even more clueless in protecting its soldiers and civilians than Rumsfeld. The incompetent Peretz continually threatens and threatens an d now says that things will have to get worse before responding. Does he and his idiot Prime Minister think things will get better for the residents of Sderot by continuing the present course of action? Israel had the golden opportunity to severely hurt Hezbollah during the stupidly led Lebanese war. It had the approval of the US and other nations and yet Olmert and Peretz refused to win the war. Now, the international force threatens to shoot down Israeli jets while looking the other way as Hezbollah rearms and retrenches in Lebanon. Israel needs elections soon.

There is no easy solution to this, though I liked #5's Collateral damage idea (destroy a village for each rocket pre-warned). However realisticly Diskin warned govt that Hamas smuggled 30 tons of weapons/explosives the day before sderot happenned, the IDF are tracking everything going in and out of Sinai but their hands are being tied by Olmert, Egpyt and our Euro friends so called "Monitoring" the border. Israel just tips off these so called inspectors in turn either tip of the smugglers or turn a blind eye like even the media has been reporting recently. Solution is AMBUSHES. They have proved so effective with the smallest casuality on the IDF side by far, get in and get the hell out!! The last place where they will expect anything is in Sinai enroute to the Philidelphia border. Sinai is pretty much open unhindered desert. IDF deploys Commando units "Dressed as Bedouins" directed from their intel who are tracking smuglers by satalite (and agents on the ground) and take them out. This can prove extremely effective to not only eliminate a large portion of smuggling but also reduce the speed they are getting the contraband through the borders so blatently. The other area is on the Gaza side, there are various spots where the Qassam crews are launching missle after missle. IDF can detect where missle is being launched from their intel systems and its flight path with laser/radar. They should obviously have some ambushes setup in all of these open/field positions ASAP forcing terroirsts to go back and launch from civilan areas. Once they launch from Civilian areas it would be easier to have eyes spot the crews on the ground in the ciites or camps. REMOTE MINES: Plant high explosive remote controlled mines all over these open areas, every possible location where intel believes these qassam crews can launch from. They won't detonate if someone steps on them or decides to have a picnic there unless remotly detonated, but will transmit back that someone is standing above them. IDF will only detonate with confrimation from surveylence that it's a qassam crew, smuggler or other terrorist. This will also scare the bejesus out of them and make them think twice before going on each mission. I don't want to get to high tech here, but if they don't want to deploy human commandos for ambushes for fear of casualites then they can deploy remote-auto sniper guns over certain areas with open visbility of a few km. Enough of these with interlocking the arc of fire would be so deadly the crews wouldn't even be able to guess what hit them. If they don't posess any of these remote weapons they should buy them from US companies that manufacutre them. A more manual approach is just having surveylance laser tage the targets for distant fire from artillery, tanks, planes or drones (whoever is the closest to tagged target). This will reduce collateral damage as you can pinpoint the type fire depending on location. I won't even list here the different methods they can use for tagging the targets. I can go on all day here with counter-measures.... This is just the tip of the iceberg of what the IDF is capable of doing to these unintelligent terror squads. My question is what the hell are they waiting for?

Do you read histroy? You might try reading the history of Israel from 1948 and all wars that ensued where Israel had odds stacked and they came out on top. When push comes to shove regardless of US or no US Israel will shut Hizboulah and Hamas down real fast, media or no media. Egypt/Jordan/Saudi Arabia won't attack, maybe some militants there will be sent and get destroyed en-route. Lebanon & Syria, well lets check the damage after the last lebanon war did you see all those buildings destroyed and country put back 20-30 years, well that was playing nice and trying very hard only to get the bad guys, if the glove comes off Syria and Lebanon will go back into the dark ages. Iran, the guy is a nut case if he fires anything more then conventional weapons at israel all I can say is I wouldn't want to be living in Iran then.
