Please define "white people." Does that mean anyone "not European"? Is there a specific criterion for white? Where do you draw the line? These are trick questions because there's no such thing as race, only genetic phenotype. Someone considered Black in the UNited States could be considered white or creole in other countries in Latin America or in Africa. Likewise, the reverse might be true, say in Scandinavia, where someone considered white in the US might be considered nonwhite in a place like Sweden (i.e., Italians, Greeks). I had a Russian roomate once in Tel-Aviv. Her mother sent her an old photo album with class pictures from her childhood. Compared to all the ethnically Russian kids (all with very blonde, pale skin, light eyes) my roomate and the other Jewish kid looked like "Blacks". Reading about this story I thought the woman in question might have been Ethiopian, but we see here that she is Mizrachi, perhaps Yemenite in origin. In a way this is even more insidious because we are often led to believe that the Ashkenazi/Sephardi-Mizrachi divide is a thing of the past, especialy in Tel-Aviv. If something like this can happen to a native born Israeli of Mizrachi origin what kinds of humiliations are possible in regard to Ethiopians? I shudder to think. As a Black woman (a clearly identifiable Arican-American) I personally didn't have problems like this in the several YEARS I lived in Tel-Aviv and something like "I am white and you are Black and therefore you are inferior" would have made me laugh from the utter and total primitiveness of this expression of racism. Laughing in his face might have taught him a lesson (especially in conjunction with a lawsuit). Real white supremacists don't have to tell themselves they are "superior" in such an obvious way and inform their victims of such. But whatever, it's best that Israelis not learn how to be real white supremacists.

Initially, even southern Germans, central Europeans, and Slavs were considered non-whites. Jews and Italians (often insulted as 'guineas')were considered non-white until the 40's.
