1. what do you know? Ahmadenijad's statements don't fall on dea
(11.23.06)
death ears after all? God danm Gemany. All of Europe. I'm sick of them. Let them go to Balfur statement of 1917 and the cynical violation of that by the Brits, bringing in Arabs from all over, later to be called "Palestinians". Everything is out there, there's no lack of documantation of how empty this land was prior to the British crime, by countless visitors to it. This is not ignorance, it is voluntereely ignorance. I'm sick of them.
2. Prevelance Is Growing
California Bear ,   Berkeley, USA   (11.23.06)
Unfortunately, there is a growing movement in the Occident of apologetics, leftists, irrational pacifists, and people who plain out in denial, that think the State of Israel is the problem while conspicuously ignoring the atrocities and crimes committed by Arab and/or Muslim states against the Jewish state. Israel's alleged atrocities are front and center on the Dhimmi network, commonly known as the BBC, but the suffering of Israeli men, women and children are summarily ignored.
3. do they really beleive?
(11.23.06)
this will not stop the riots by the muslums in europe, for German academics they should wake up and smell the radation
4. They don't get it because we have failed at PR miserably
J ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.23.06)
It is our fault the world is so strongly against us. Our PR folks should be fired!
5. An so FARSI is the language of FARSE
Fasulia Hudra   (11.23.06)
The document totally disregards thousands of years of history, that terrorist started with the PALs nearly 100 years ago, PALs collaborated with Hitler, HAMAS charter calls for our destruction and death. and that their suffering and misery is a direct result of counter-terrorist measures required to protect our citizens (Fence, roadblocks, and border crossing, etc), In their myopic view of the situation, they have not visited Arab towns and cities to see the prosperity and quality of life that they enjoy. Instead they focus on epicenter of terror and are totally blind to all cause and effect relationships - anything but scientific. But the suffering of the PALs is not only self-induced, but is totally insignificant when weighed against their clearly defined objective of destroying Israel & murdering Jews and Israelis. Furthermore, since the PAL population democratically elected HAMAS and the majority support terror according to polls, I do not believe we owe them any consideration what so ever. The population not only supports the terrorists but aids and abetts them. They house the terrorists, provide cover for them to launch Qassam rockets at us, and protect the terrorists & homes when we go to apprehend or assasinate them along with protecting the houses. Since the Intifada began in 2000 the PALs lost nearly everything that they had previously gained. As such they use the argument that they have nothing to lose. We on the other hand, when confronted with enemies once more that are totally committed to our destruction, have everything to lose. We see the UN, numerous countries, and now certain pseudo-academics have sold their souls to the devil. Our survival is not going to be decided by popular or unpopular opinion of any people, countries, or organizations. Democracy does not mean that majorities can persecute minorities. But our minority has a history of persecution by all the majorities over history. Two thirds of the Jews of Europe were murdered by Nazis and country after country turned a blind eye. We survived that attempt to annihilate us and we will survive the PAL attempts as well. We have not forgotten the blindness, bigotry, and complicity in the murder of our brethren. And today those countries and people who overtly or covertly seek our destruction and are complicit with these terrorist have no credibility. We will do everything and anything necessary to survive and protect our citizens. If PALs wish to negotiate a co-existance disengagement deal, so be it. It they wish to continue the Intifada in a battle until the death, then we will grant their wish and they will die. But I have no mercy for terrorists, their govt., those who support them and who empower them.
6. perfect: these are the children, grandchildren of nazis
dante ,   uk   (11.23.06)
there is always a good reason to attack the Jews. it's because they are capitalists, or bolsheviks, or exclusive, or to eager to assimilate, OR BECAUSE SOME OF THEM, AT LEAST, JUST WON'T CAPITULATE. SOME OF THEM ACTUALLY INSIST THAT THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO THEIR ANCIENT PATRIMONY. there are over 20 arab states, and another dozen or more muslim states. there never was a palestinian state or "palestinians" who were not Jews until the arabs fabricated a novel, synthetic nationality in response to Jewish settlement in Israel. there is NO cause that ignites euro sanctimony and outrage like the Jewish determination not to disappear.
7. result and history
KoolYao ,   Israel   (11.23.06)
Israel is not the result of the holocaust, Israel is the result of 2000 years of wanting to go back, and the realisation of the project started in the late 19th century, way before the holocaust happened, who ever says that we are here because of the holocaust ignores history no matter ancient or contemporanean. Historic injustice against the arabs?? what?? how big is the one Israel and how big are the 50-something arab states? injustice??? dont make me laugh!
8. window of opportunity
KoolYao ,   Israel   (11.23.06)
We had in 1948 a window of opportunity and we took it, if it wasn't that we would have waited untill the next window of opportunity, we've waited 2000 years so another 10-20-50 wouldnt have been a disaster, the arabs loose one after anothe windows of opportunity of peace and development
9. German Manifesto
NYC Girl   (11.23.06)
There are many excellent points made in this article, but there's an additional angle that wasn't explored, and it's the fact that the enmity toward the U.S. is so profound among certain Europeans that Israel, by extension, is being demonized. While there's no doubt that their twisted world view causes these people to draw a moral equivalence between Israelis fighting for their survival and Palestinians terrorists aimed at their destruction, it appears that Israel is also paying the price for this leftist European hatred of America (and George Bush in particular), on the part of these so-called intellectuals. But, interestingly, none of them is calling for a boycott of the U.S. because they know that would be academic suicide, so they attempt to isolate and punish the "Little Satan" for its role as a staunch ally of the "Great Satan."
10. Germans
BJ ,   Basel, Switzerland   (11.23.06)
The Germans never considered Israel as part of their "democratic" world, because the existence of the State of Israel reminded them of their past sins - only they didn't officially talk about it. Now, 60 years after, they lost the shame, and want to make a "Schlussstrich" behind the history.
11. I WOULD EXPECT NOTHING LESS FROM GERMANS.
DEBRA ,   USA   (11.23.06)
WITH THEM IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE JEWS......... FIRST, GET THE JEWS OUT OF EUROPE. NOW, GET THE JEWS OUT OF ISRAEL. THE KRAUTS HAVE ONE TRACK MINDS: IT'S ALWAYS THE JEWS.
12. It's not just the Germans...Look at Spielberg !
malcolm   (11.23.06)
It’s Hollywood that “educates” the world, not German wacademics. Spielberg set out through "Shindler's List" to re-educate the world about the existence of Israel. He powerfully showed the Nazi cruelty. But the ending of his high impact movie supports Ahmadinejad 100%. In the movie, after the war is over, Jews are wondering about. Someone asks, "Where should we go?” Someone else answers " over there". "Where?" .."Over there ..there is a land " Spielberg didn’t have the guts to say “ To the Land of Israel!!!… To join our brothers and sisters in our Biblical homeland…the land we were driven from by the Romans…the land we prayed to return to for two thousand years". Spielberg set in motion an international mindset that simply states: "Feel sorry for us Jews because you were very bad to us. You owe us something in return. Give us that land, which we have no legitimate connection to. That land that belongs to those Arabs. And while you’re at it support us and look the other way. You owe us!” He further added with the film "Munich": "If we don't live up to your moral expectations you can follow me in condemning my people to the point of terminating our right to exist in that "land over there". The German wacademics are just throwing back the capital we Jews foolishly thought we gained from Shindler’s schmaltzy ending, music and all, right back in our faces. Don’t believe it? Re-watch the ending.
13. # !! Typical American Jew
malcolm   (11.23.06)
American Jews looked the other way during WW II, didn't protest or whimper no matter what they read in the papers. So now they and their offspring guiltily wail "We didn't know!!!" They scream, "I won't drive a German car" as if they are now boycotting Nazi Germany while they fill their tanks with Saudi oil. And they stupidly look at every German as if they are Nazis. Meanwhile Germany is one of Israel’s top trading partners, is Israel's #1 intelligence partner (not the CIA), supplies Israel with billions of dollars of free submarines that can carry nuclear warheads (something the US would NEVER do). Hey Debra, Would you expect THAT from Germans? No, of course not. Because you are completely brainwashed and don't know any facts about the Israel/Germany relationship. Just go on living in your shtetl world. Like most guilty American Jews you, or your parents or grandparents looked the other way while the Jewish hero Roosevelt sent the “Ship of Fools” back to the concentration camps to die. No one can say they didn't know about that. It was in all the newspapers.
14. American Jews
Dov Baer ,   Princeton, NJ   (11.23.06)
My father was born in the USA in 1920. In 1941 he joined the US Army, picked up a gun, and went to fight the Nazis. We won. After the war, he was part of the clandestine operation to smuggle weapons into Israel. We won that struggle too. Since then he and a few million other American Jews have sent their children, their money and their political support to Israel. Israel would not exist without the support of the American people and the American Jewish community, and the Holocaust would have succeeded in Europe with American military committment to freeing Europe from the Nazi beast. Those of you who complain about America and American Jews are like petulant children who are denied their candy, and it shows a lack of character on your part to deny or be ignorant of the contributions of Americans and American Jewry to Israeli survival. Time to grow up.
15. #14 You Missed the point
malcolm   (11.23.06)
It's great to look back and idolize our parents. But leading up to and during the war the American Jewish community at home was silent, didn't protest or complain to the Roosevelt administration about the plight of European Jews. My complaint is with with the typical knee-jerk attitude toward modern day Germans by American Jews who make ridiculous statements like Debra. I strongly believe that this is directly related to the guilty feelings of abandoning their fellow Jews during when they could have done so much more as in the case of the "Ship of Fools" which Roosevelt sent back to Germany after wandering around off the coast of Florida. That is why they "won't drive a German car" as if they are boycotting the Nazis and accomplishing something. And why they make insane blanket statements about Germans.
16. where was Israel?
Vitaliy ,   NJ, USA   (11.23.06)
Well, Malcolm, where were Israeli Jews during the Holocaust? Business as usual from what I remember learning. And after that business as usual is it any surprise there's so much trade between Israel and Germany now? Meanwhile, you didn't seem too proud when accepting American Jews who came to fight in the wars of Israel or too proud in accepting American Jewish charities' money this past summer. Yet clearly, you are indignant for some reason. The point was not to piss off Israelis on this board. The point was that we all did not do what we were supposed to do. It is high time the blame game between the Israelis and American Jews stops with regard to inaction during the Holocaust.
17. To Malcolm (13) and Dov (14)
Dan ,   Israel   (11.23.06)
To Malcolm (13), Germany is NOT donating but SELLING submarines to Israel just like Israel exports military technology around the world. To Dov (14) It is true that the American Jewry's support was critical for Israel in the first decades of Israel's statehood. in the fifties the American-Jewish financial assistance constituted almost 10% of Israel's GDP. Today it is only 0,1% and the "great" American assistance amounts to less than 1% of the Israeli GDP. The fast growth of Israel's GDP will soon make even that irrelevant. Few in America speak of the great and invaluble intelligence and technology that Israel has exported to the US over the years. It is time for arrogant people like you to grow up and realize that Israel of 2006 is not Israel of 1948. Israel is today despite all unsolved problems, a leading high-tech nation with a well-developed economy that attracts investors like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet from all over the world.
18. Don't let us be beastly to the Germans
Noel   (11.23.06)
Verse We must be kind And with an open mind We must endeavour to find A way To let the Germans know that when the war is over They are not the ones who'll have to pay. We must be sweet And tactful and discreet And when they've suffered defeat We mustn't let Them feel upset Or ever get The feeling that we're cross with them or hate them, Our future policy must be to reinstate them. Refrain 1 Don't let's be beastly to the Germans When our victory is ultimately won, It was just those nasty Nazis who persuaded them to fight And their Beethoven and Bach are really far worse than their bite Let's be meek to them And turn the other cheek to them And try to bring out their latent sense of fun. Let's give them full air parity And treat the rats with charity, But don't let's be beastly to the Hun. Verse 2 We must be just And win their love and trust And in addition we must Be wise And ask the conquered lands to join our hands to aid them. That would be a wonderful surprise. For many years They've been in floods of tears Because the poor little dears Have been so wronged and only longed To cheat the world, Deplete the world And beat The world to blazes. This is the moment when we ought to sing their praises. Refrain 2 Don't let's be beastly to the Germans When we've definitely got them on the run Let us treat them very kindly as we would a valued friend We might send them out some Bishops as a form of lease and lend, Let's be sweet to them And day by day repeat to them That 'sterilization' simply isn't done. Let's help the dirty swine again To occupy the Rhine again, But don't let's be beastly to the Hun. Refrain 3 Don't let's be beastly to the Germans When the age of peace and plenty has begun. We must send them steel and oil and coal and everything they need For their peaceable intentions can be always guaranteed. Let's employ with them a sort of 'strength through joy' with them, They're better than us at honest manly fun. Let's let them feel they're swell again and bomb us all to hell again, But don't let's be beastly to the Hun. Refrain 4 Don't let's be beastly to the Germans For you can't deprive a gangster of his gun Though they've been a little naughty to the Czechs and Poles and Dutch But I don't suppose those countries really minded very much Let's be free with them and share the BBC with them. We mustn't prevent them basking in the sun. Let's soften their defeat again - and build their bloody fleet again, But don't let's be beastly to the Hun.
19. Re: #!! Typical American Jew
MR ,   Boston, US   (11.23.06)
Dear Malcolm, Although your point is well understood, generalisation like that disserves you greatly. What would you say if somebody will characterized all Israelis as ultra-liberal sissies? Look at the split in Boston Jewish community where conservatively leaning so called Russian Jews (don't like be labeled with epithet Russian Jew myself) gave those liberals, who thought they are 100% in charge, middle-finger salute presicely on Israel support issue. Not everybody here is spilberg!
20. It Was Not Only Germany
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.23.06)
Just because Hitler was German is no reason to single out Germany either in the past or today. Europe was guilty - all of it. Didn't every country collaborate with the Nazis (except Bulgaria). Were there not facist parties in every European country? Even the allies did nothing. Did America bomb the trains or gas chambers? Who let in refugees? Europeans actively participated in the Holocaust. It was not just the Germans. And today, we see worse comments than these German academics every day in England, France, Holland, Spain, Italy & the Scandanavian countries. It would seem that while Europeans like Holocaust memorials to dead Jews, they're still not too fond of live Jews.
21. Israeli crimes against humanity need to end
(11.23.06)
so some enlightened people are calling for a boycott of anything Israeli. Israel's treatment of Palestinians is criminal as was the war against Lebanon.
22. Einstein passport: Israelien
Itzik ,   Haifa   (11.23.06)
In the Einstain passport he was : ISRAELIEN (they did not mean he was a citizen of the State of Israel). He was never German. Like Jews in Russia/Soviet Union are in passport : Nationality: JEW. Freud was from Austro-Hungarian Empire and he was neither German, no Hungarian. The other guys were insignificant individuals (Marx was Christian)>
23. 22
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.23.06)
Sorry to tell you that Einstein was a German citizen untill 1933 . Regarding Marx , he was baptized , as were so many Jews in this period , but is still considered Jew . Heine , also baptized , said : this in my entry pasport to the cultural world and his works were described as from an unknown poet during the nazi era . All those men cited here were Jews , i can give you a long list of Jews , great scientist , who were allowed to enter in the USA . Do you know how important there contribution to the USA was ? That in Los Alamos , they spoke a mixture of Yiddish and english ? most of them were Jews ! You are right , in the USSR they had a Jew in their passport . Other's had probably also their nationality writen in their passports .
24. terry
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.23.06)
hitler was not german , was born in Austria . Of course he made an horrible name as german . You are right , some local nazis were worser than their german bosses . Certainly in their jews hate . Have you been ounce in today's Germany ? i was . And very surprised to see the quantity of Holocaust and other Jewish related books libraries have for sale . If they have them , business is business , it's because there are customers for this . People who want to understand what happened .
25. Einstein was Jewish, Hitler was Austrian
Alex ,   LA, USA   (11.23.06)
Scietists work in different countries but Jews form a Nation. It is not a cult or religion only. In the Soviet Union the nationality of Jews was: Jew. Hitler was Russian. Einstein, according to his passport, was "Israele'n". Marx' Father converted and Marx considered himself Christian though according to Jewish law he was a Jew like the Christ, etc. Very few Jews converted in 19s century. All famous scientists were Jewish (in Russia, France, US, or Germany).
26. #24 I lived in Europe
Dan ,   Israel   (11.23.06)
Charles, Yes officially Europe feels "bad" about the holocaust at the same time that the Europeans would be happy to see the destruction of Israel.
27. Charles in Petah Tikvah
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.23.06)
I know Hitler was Austrian by birth. But his "career" was in Germany. Anyway, Germany or Austria - it's all Germany to me. And, yes, I used to go to Germany on business years ago. I was very uncomfortable there - I couldn't take trains, I'm sure you can imagine why. Everyone I looked at, I wondered what their parents or grand-parents did during the war. But todays Germans are like the rest of the Europeans - they resent America, they certainly don't like us, & they will not fight for Western values. They are a civilization in decline.
28. #13 malcom
debra ,   usa   (11.24.06)
i am amazed that you despise me more than you do the germans who murdered six million of our jewish brothers and sisters. 400,000 american soliders gave their lives to stop the german killing machine in wwll. many are buried in american veterans cemetaries in europe. they never even made it home to america in death. many american jews fought and died as u.s. soliders. they deserve your respect--not the germans who killed them malcom--too soon you have forgotten the six million of our people who were executed at the hands of your beloved germans.
29. yes , they are academic and friend to israil
salma ,   gaza   (11.24.06)
they are academic as they understand the palastinian response ,to israili unjustice ,, ,, but they are friend , as they do not accept this response ,,, so they accept the israili action wich they are not understand it ,, as the german was the enemy of israil in the past not the palastinian ,,, but this is the man he used his power to the weak circle ,, sure we palastinians are the weak circle here ,, this is not academic nor friend ,, this is the truth only
30. alex
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.24.06)
There were many conversion in the 19th century . Most of them to give them a possibility to continue their work as scientist . Hebra [ dermatologue ] Karl Landsteiner [ blood groups] Heinrich Heine , Felix Mendelsohn , the writers Karl Kraus and Max Jacod . Gustav Mahler and Rachel Varnhagen .This is only a small part of them . Where you are right is that a great part of the scientist were Jews by Halacha , or had a Jewish father . In the US , many Jewish scientist came there after 1933 [ they were the sole to be warmly received ]
