Although I hope that the terrorists stop the rockets for the sake of the residents of Sderot, nothing the Palestinians do is decent. Israel is now in a position to see if stopping the military campaign against the Palestinians and thus temporarily giving respite to Sderot will hurt Israel in the long term---just like ignoring the Hezbollah buildup in Southern Lebanon led to so many Israeli deaths. In the case of Gaza, stopping the military action against Hamas and the other terrorist Palestinians will allow the monsters to build up their arsenals and prepare for a war against Israel when they feel that they are stronger. Bunkers and underground fortifications will be built that will be as difficult to penetrate as the ones in Southern Lebanon and the fortifications facing the US Army and Marines on Iwo Jima. It's a shame that Sharon was incapacitated during the Lebanese War or that Netanyahu wasn't Prime Minister. Hezbollah would have been decimated. Instead, the incompetence of Olmert, Peretz, and Livni prevented Israel from a clear-cut victory and the UN bigots such as Kofi Annan and Louise Arbour cannot tolerate a Jew who defends himself.

This is no small achievement. Israel must watch this like a hawk and employ the same brilliant strategy Livni used yesterday when she took the diplomatic corps to Sderot. The words of the French Ambassador the next day were almost pro-Israel!! That strategy is to DEMONSTRATE to the world ANY Palestinian breach of this cease fire. If there are no breaches, all the better; then maybe another step can be taken. Meanwhile, there is nothing wrong with everyone hoping that maybe, this time, we could be on a better road.

Don't hold your breath waiting for them to stop.

Ask yourselves - why all these terror groups who are sworn to destroy the "Zionist regime" all of a sudden UNILATERALLY offered to halt their rocket fire? Is it because the terrorists had a spiritual awakening and, as of 6:00 AM Sunday, found love for Jews and Israel? Doubt it. Hamas realized that Israel is about to launch a major offensive in Gaza that would deal a severe blow to their terror infrastructure. Hamas is not yet strong enough for a serious fight with Israel and terror leaders know that. Thus, knowing how spineless current Israeli government is, hamas just bought itself time - under this ceasefire, Israel will do nothing while hamas will get stronger: IDF won't recapture Philadelphi route and, therefore, advanced weapons will continue to flow to hamas. This was a brilliant PR move as well: the so-called "international community" will now say: "Look at palestininas, they offered to stop violence unilaterally, Israel has a peace partner now, let's lift our financial sanctions on hamas!" This ceasefire only worsens Israel's problems in the long-run: IDF will have to confront hamas at some point later on, but it will do so when hamas is ready for it - advanced weapons, underground bunkers and better-trained units will await Israeli soldiers! Olmert and his team are fools; but even bigger fools are the Israelis themselves who elected these clowns and now start to reap what they sowed!

Either way, if Bush is ordering Israel to make peace or stop war with our Islamic killers, shame on us. If Olmert seriously believes this Hudna is in Israel's interest, he is much the fool and so are we for not getting rid of him. More shame on us. So either way to look at this situation is a mind-blowing LOSER strategy for Israel.

because nothing good can come of cynicism. There's no reason to trust Hamas at all, but that said, there's no reason to allow the rockets to continue. They'll stop and we'll stop. A rest, if not exactly peace. They can re-arm, true. But we can also reassess and re-strategize. But maybe, just maybe, something better can begin. And if not? Well, at least there'll have been a break in the action and the folks in Sderot will have gotten some sleep. Will be praying for the "something better." As always.

There will doubtless be the usual doubters nay sayers hysterical users of big block capitals all denying rejecting declaiming etc etc but for every second that this ceaase fire will last, one more Israeli and one more Palestinian life is saved. it must be worth it.
