1. Gay Couples
Drew ,   Jerusalem   (11.28.06)
If the Chief Rabbi is really so concerned with violations of the Torah-why bother wth a law that allow a very few gay couples married abroad to register? Why not introduce laws to ban football on Shabbat? How about married women walking in public without a hair covering? Why? The answer is clear-HOMOPHOBIA?
2. YES ! THE HIGH COURT IS UNDEMOCRATIC AND BOLSHEVIK
(11.28.06)
3. #2 - and the Rabbinical court is fundamentalist!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (11.28.06)
What makes the High Court undemocratic and Bolshevik (not Marxist, not socialist, not communist, but Bolshevik no less!)?
4. NICE MOVE and what about uniting to do something on the
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.28.06)
aguna problem too ? what about standarizing prenupial agreements that should diminish/abolish the agunot phenemenom too? What happenned to that glorious conference on the topic that rabbi Amar called off?
5. the High Court is a POLITICAL ONE...FOR LEFTISTS
(11.28.06)
6. The hight Court is against the People and no democratic
Danny ,   Raanana   (11.28.06)
7. High Court in Israel is the Lowest institution in the Land.
LEE ,   NY, USA   (11.28.06)
8. #1- Everyone should have Homophobia..
LEE ,   NY, USA   (11.28.06)
Just like they should fear any other sin.
9. Gays
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.28.06)
We should write to all the MKS to table a law outlawing homosexuality in Israel. In this democratic state if a majority is against we can democratically vote against it. Its the democratic right of the majority of the people to outlaw it. The majority of the people in Israel are against homosexuality so we should exercise our democratic right. 4000 people turned up for the Gay event. Many of those people were not gay but policemen protecting the few gay participants who attended. Many of the gay participants were not Israelis. Most Jews in Israel are against gays so are the Muslims and Xians. Among the Jews the dati leumi the haredi the sfardim the russians and the ethiopians have spoken out against them, so clearly the majority do not want homosexuality to be legal in Israel
10. gay weddings abroad
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.28.06)
Here we going again , "the high court is such , or so , or what soever" . Why not banning weddings conductecd by a Sephardi [ or Ashekenazi ] rabbi abroad ? Or by one taller than 6 feeth ? If we want to be stupid antidemocratics Why not ? We can not ban weddings conducted abroad by the laws of a country . If we will make exeptions by refering to the gender of the married couple , we are not better than a regime who brought us the Shoa and their Nurenberg laws . those were also laws voted by a "majority" . Even if there is a majority in this country in favor of this , they have to respect the minority rights . It's a pity that Israel has not to abide to the European Court of Justice . Many Human rights violations and other cases were judged there . Gabriela , regarding the Agunot , i fully agree with you . I wrote it already , " if there is only ONE aguna , her problem has to be resolved "
11. Gays
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.28.06)
The minority does not have rights to break the law of the G-d of Israel in His land. Clearly if the minority is doing something that disturbs the majority it cannot be condoned. Why do we have to uphold marriages performed in foreign lands which are not legal in Israel. Are these gay couples even Jewish? They should not be allowed into Israel. The next project we should work on is amending the law of return.
12. law of return
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.28.06)
amending the law of return [ leah wrote] ......as to only allow charidi non tax payers to receive a costly absorption basket and other advantages , probably ?. The law of god : most of the founders of this State were seculars , and you want to take all their liberties . As i wrote , not better as the infamous nurenberg laws . Are those couples even Jewish : probably better Jews as many others , they live , work and give their blood for you . You have not to like them , but as a religious [ ????] woman , you should be more tolerant , and obey at least one of the ten commandements : ve'ahavta et re'echa kamocha . If you are not doing so , you have no right to tell others not to break the laws of god . You know what my relations to god are , since the Shoa . Bring other arguments
13. Careful what you wish for.
Kate ,   Jerusalem   (11.28.06)
Wow - these talkbacks give such bright ideas: 1. let's overturn the authority of the high court and give it over to the rabbis. 2. We should use democracy to ban people the religious don't like or want (just for the record, the religious are not the majority in Israel - but who cares). 3. Maybe we could even have an inquisition to make sure that all people registered as Jews are actually living a torah lifestyle. Then we would have a just, Jewish state that would make everyone happy. At least everyone who remained happy. The rest of us Jewish Zionists, of course, would have to go find some other land to call home.
14. #9- Nazis were also democratically...
Danny ,   Jerusalem   (11.29.06)
Nazis were also democratically elected. 6 million jews were killed. Oh well, it's jews' fault, right? Majority of the people lived then didn't like jews. So they voted. Don't see much difference. Why won't you mind your own business and be a good jew, observe traditions and all the stuff, but leave me alone. Let me do what i believe. And no, i'm not gay. But i would like to be able to marry in a civil, unortodox way, I do like bacon on my pizza, I would like to be able to move around on Saturdays.. Etc. Etc. Concentrate on YOUR life!
15. Leah
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
In an other of your tb you wrote of 6000000 Israelis living outside Israel . Did your rabbi already teach you what's the difference between Israelis ans Jews ? As long as you do not know , stay away from spreying your hate .
17. Ten Commandments?
Demosthenes   (11.29.06)
"you should be more tolerant , and obey at least one of the ten commandements : ve'ahavta et re'echa kamocha" - Charles (#12) Um...I'm sorry, I must have missed that commandment. Which number was that again?
18. Stop the Homophobia!! Stop the Fundamentalism/Talibanism!
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (11.29.06)
Most of our laws were written thousands of years ago. Changes occurred since then. Science has proven that homosexuality is something a person is born with. It's not a perversion or a crime. Until a certain stage of development a human embryo's gender is not established. Is it so unreasonable to see that just MAYBE this phenomenon is something a person is born with? Homosexual behaviour has been observed in nature. While it is not desirable for the perpetuation of the species, it certainly isn't something deserving condemnation and persecution. I am a Jewish woman, married to a Jewish man, and we chose not to go anywhere near the Rabbanut when we got married. Why? Because there is so much corruption, greed and intolerance in this organization, I feel no urge to have any dealings with them. I don't touch non-kosher foods but have no problems driving on Shabbat. If cars had existed during Moshe Rabbenu's time, I don't believe driving on Shabbat would be forbidden. I also have doubts that the Rabbis of old would even recognize the throwbacks to the Shtetl as Jews. The world has changed since the times of Moses, and since the time of Maimonides, and since the time Jews were confined to the Ghettos of Europe. Get with it. Things that are not open to change and adjustment stagnate and die. And most of all: To be credible to the Secular, the Rabbanut should clean house and do some serious reflecting about the corruption in the organization. Also, last I checked, Bezek didn't have a direct line to HaShem, so don't tell me you talked to him or know what he wants.
19. demosthebes
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
first of all , are you ashamed of your name that you use a name of a big man ? or ashamed of your question . I would say , ask Leah , but as she do'nt know the difference detween Jews and Israelis , its improbable she can respond to this . I'm not religious , i was always told this is a commandement , so i can not give you a response regarding the number . All i know , it's also in use by the Christians . It would be very fine to live if eveyone would take this in mind . Especially some "religious" hate sprayers and stone throwers
20. Esther
charles ,   Petach tikva   (11.29.06)
If you have read my talkback , you will know i'm far to be a religious man . I agree with you to most of your points . When i was married , abroad where civil mariage exists and i was not obliged to go to the local rabbanut , i did it . Most of all , for the children . They had no problem , they were children from parents by Halacha . If we had had a boy , no problem for us , he had received Brit Mila . He had the choice to be or not to be religious later . Regarding corruption at the rabbanut , there are probably many . With money you can buy many things . For your information , hashem has no Email either .
21. Charles: Thank you for your Comment
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (11.29.06)
Our sons also received a Brit Mila, it wouldn't have occurred to us not to have it done. They are taught to pray, they are taught to respect tradition. We are trying to instill good values in them, such as honesty and respect. If they choose a religious life-style, that will be their decision and I will support them. Unfortunately these qualities, honesty and respect are for the most part missing in the Rabbanut. If something is needed from them, money will buy it. I look at them, I see a Jewish Taliban forming and I won't buy into that.
22. Esther
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
Knowledge in any field is important , included our people's history . We do not need religious laws [ nor police ] to be honest , have high moral values . What is important is to be a "Mensch" , it says everything .
23. demosthenes
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
Sotty for having mis writen your name . I have looked in some of my books , and you are probably right . i was misinformed . There is another saying i like : derech eretz kodem [ or kedma ] latora . Very important to observe !
24. REMOVE THAT PICTURE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(11.29.06)
25. #24
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (11.29.06)
The rabbi's because it is a graven image? If he didn't want his face shown he could have put his hat in front of it. It looks pretty posed to me.
26. Charles remember
bush ,   usa   (11.29.06)
just because it says veahavta... it does not answer up why you should accept the bad they do. You can love them by telling them what is right and wrong but not love what they do.Do we have to love murderers and rapists, maybe but we do not have to love their actions. As for Derech Eretz... also a true line refers to those that have and do derech eretz. One who is not doing what the "way of the world" is doing and is stopping the human beings from producing and cutting short all of his future chidren and grandchildren from living on Earth he himself has no derech eretz therefore neither should anyone else with them. Sorry Please do not use the Torah of the Jews to interpret your backwards theories because the Torah has an answer for everything as was just answered. Find a different source like a newspaper.
27. bush
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
I never said you have to love gays . I can't understand that a man love's a man , as there are so many pretty girls around you . But if they wish to live so , with a consenting adult person , it is not my business . Regarding the tora of the Jews , do not forget , the tora is also MY history . The interpretation is different , many events have been explained scientifically . You will say it's the hand of god , i heard another explanation . For example , i like very much Pesach , Feast of the liberation of slavery . Many other peoples were also liberated from this evil [ the Africans in the USA were one of them ] I'm not so stupid as to say that the tora is one lie , no , it's the story of our people , magnificent . You think i have backward ideas , free to you , it's even normal for a religious person to think so . If i'm talking about Jewish sayings many people , religious , not obey to , it's my interpretation of how a "true" believer should behave . And what we saw was not so . Also , religious people in their talkbacks were always refering to god has said , has given , the tora says , etc . And this a non believing Jew is not accepting , and i return the same to you : bring other arguments as the tora , cite other sources [ no need for newspapers , all depends who wrote ] You see , if i receive a correct TB , i answer the same way .
28. Derech eretz
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
My view of derech eretz is maybe different . "True" believers [ there are not many , sad ] behave with derech eretz even with non believers . You , religious believing people should show this derech eretz to everyone . You think a Jew has to be religious . I think the best thing to do for a GOOD Jew , is to live here . Here it is your historical home . Here you are at home . I was not born here , i made Alya some 5 years ago . I left a town where i know every place , every street , were i did not suffer from antisemitism [ exept 40 -44] , were i had many friends , also non Jewish who knew i was Jewish , But here i'm feeling at home , GOOD Jews have to be HERE , and not abroad telling others how to behave , how to live , what is bad , Sorry
29. 100% correct
Bush ,   USA   (11.29.06)
Derech Eretz " fine character" is with all human beings believers and non believers. Why does it say derech... and not midot tovot kodem latorah. Because to those who are not acting as the way of the world you should act back the same. However one who has no derech eretz although he is polite his character is degrading and abnoxious. For example nazi germany were very polite, mannerly, and gracious when they spoke yet as it turned out they also had an abnoxious and revolting character. Should Israel speak to Iran the same way they speak to America so polite. I think not!
30. comparing
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
That's the reaction i awaited from you . Polite germans , iran . To compare those to Jews is .... What you want , is the same racisme as the nurenberg laws , You see i can also compare ,sad i had to do this . You stone throwers were maybe "human" beings ? not in the way they behaved . So i see , you are not a GOOD jew , stay where you are , we have enough "tswayfisetige behaymes" or bipede animals of your kind .
