1. Condi/Bush Needs To Go To Sheol
(11.30.06)
Regardles of Olmert, She and Bush are the ones who having been forcing Israeli is stop fighting back, to make the ceasefire. We Need Jews In Power Who Will Under No Circumstance Kiss The Goyim Boot
2. Agreeing for constrain if islabands will be
zov ,   Rosenberg, TX   (11.30.06)
murdering no more 10 israelis a day can warm haremic thugs towards helping US in Iraq.
3. not surprising...
Jared ,   Toronto, Canada   (11.30.06)
that a research group would recommend appeasing the Arab dictators is going to make the US look better in the Arab public opinion. When will we wake up to the frightening realization that anything that Arabs dont' like they can bomb their way into forcing others to accept or even threaten bombing. The US will always be hated as will Israel and Canada too but we're slipping by under the radar for now!
4. Ah yes, Papa Bush's fabulous foreign team
sk ,   USA   (11.30.06)
headed by James "F**k the Jews, they don't vote for us anyway" Baker, the man who knows almost as little about diplomacy as Tzippy Livni. Yes, Papa Bush was brilliant. Why, he left Saddam in power and required A SECOND WAR that could have been avoided. Yes, Papa Bush, the man who didn't want the USSR to fall, and who had absolutely no coherent plan on how to nurture democracy when Yeltsin finally led Russia. Yes, Papa Bush, the man who so impressed the electorate that he did not get re-elected. I vote mostly Republican, but this time I stayed home to do my part to make the lousy President Bush's job tougher. I wanted to thank him for never vetoing a spending bill, for failing to topple Iran, and for his rah-rah support for a "Palestinian" state. I am extremely delighted that I stayed home. Baker was always in the background -- not that he knows anything. Now he's front and center. Always good to see the enemy.
5. Baker Is An Arabist
Ari   (11.30.06)
Classic James Baker. His solution to every problem with the arabs is to appease arab terrorism and push Israel to make concessions that are not good for its security. This is his mentality, it was the mentality of all the anti-Israeli crusaders in George Bush Senior's administration. God, I thought we got rid of this cancerous anti-zionist pro arab terrorism mentality when we flushed his father's presidency down the toilet after 1 term.
6. No freaking way...
J K ,   NYC, USA   (11.30.06)
Syria has done next to nothing to normalize relations with its neighbor. The only true case study we have where Israel abandoned territory in the name of peace and got an actual piece of paper out of it was from Egypt. And look how that turned out. The absence of war is not peace, and Egypt has done next to nothing to open doors for Israel to do business. It's barely worth the paper its printed on. Is this what Israel has to look forward to when pressured on the Golan from Syria? The only one who will live with the consequences of an American push for Israel to simply abandon the Golan for another worthless piece of paper is Israel. Let Syria make gestures to Israel first and show how things can warm up. Otherwise, its just another retreat. Screw you, Baker.
7. The US administration should talk to Al Qaeda
Nannette ,   London, UK   (11.30.06)
And in the next year Bush, Baker, etc., should promise the Islamists of America their own state in Dearborn, Michigan. The US are quite happy to sacrifice Israel on the alter of Islam. It's just a shame that Israel can't see that and break away from America, and ally itself with China (the real superpower), instead.
8. DO WHAT?
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (11.30.06)
Israel, it's time to tell 'em all to go to hell, including, maybe especially, our bunch. What are these people drinking or snorting or smoking????
9. israel will have to say no
meni   (11.30.06)
again, we will not become czecheslovakia, as ariel sharon said (but didn't carry out).
10. Baker at it again
Eli ,   USA   (11.30.06)
The Sun is a tabloid, so I'll wait and see on whether this proves true, but it wouldn't shock me. It's getting to the point or perhaps has been at the point for many years, where Israel is as much, or more hampered by their relationship with the US than they are helped by it. Israel should not be in a position where it even has to pretend to listen to these kinds of proposals, and if the US thinks the Arab world will like America more for putting this pressure on Israel, they are wrong. Not one Arab will believe it - they will all claim it's a delusionary tactic. Cut the umbilical cord already, please!!!!!!, or rather the $3B pair of golden handcuffs.
11. What?
NC ,   Canada   (11.30.06)
Israel should give up land and make political concessions so iraqis can have peace? Screw them! Let them kill each other. Why should the Jews suffer for them?
12. THATS STUPID, BUSH DONE ENOUGH DAMAGE TO USA, NOW ISRAEL
DAVID P ,   SEABRIGHT   (11.30.06)
DON'T GIVE AN INCH OF LAND TO SYRIA, WHAT WILL BE IN IRAQ WILL BE, IF THE ARABS & PERSIANS WANT TO CLEAN UP THE MESS LEFT BEHIND BY THE USA THEN THATS THEIR PROBLEM, LET THEM CHOOSE TO HELP, BUT DON'T EXPECT ISRAEL TO MAKE SACRIFICES SO THE MUSLIMS COULD FURTHER THEIR DESTRUCTION OF ISRAEL AGENDA, BUSH HAS SPENT UP OUR CREDABILITY IN THE WORLD AND NOW HE WANTS TO THROW ISRAEL TO THE DOGS FOR BACKING HIS DELUSIONAL DEMOCRIZATION PLAN IN THE FIRST PLACE
13. Israel must reject this crap
Brod ,   USA   (11.30.06)
Those anti-Israel elements are now pushing the Administration to sacrifice Israel to the wolves to cower to the pressure and manipulations of Arab Islamist-Jihadists. Israel is a sovereign country. It is none of the business of other countries to interfere or pressure Israel to compromise its national security and defense interests. Israel must remain strong to never succumb to such illegal and immoral pressures. Israel should let it be known that it is not a colony of any country. And that it is not going to bow to any external interferences that are detrimental to its national security defense and interests. Those who think that they can bully and pressure Israel to comply to the evil wishes of Arab Islamist-Jihadists against its national security interests must be stupid and insane. In a post 9/11, it is amazing that there are Americans that could still be naive and easily controlled and manipulated by Arab Islamist-Jihadist entities. Could it be that their balls are being squeezed by the latter? If so, to hell with them. That is their personal problem. But for them to attempt to pressure Israel to sacrifice its tiny country and national security and give a strategic slice of its country to its enemies is insane and Israel must reject it outright.
14. Solution ? Expert ?
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.30.06)
I haven't read or heard or seen something SOOOOOOO - what word could I use for such insanity ??? I think i'll need Kyle and his great definitions
15. Now that's an easy way to spark a war
Steve ,   USA   (11.30.06)
B"H Now that's an easy way to spark a war. Force Israel into an "indefensibile" position, let the Arab states dive in, with their tongues whet, and watch as Israel has to clean up the whole mess, including that with Iran, driving out the Arabs of course completely, out of necessity for survival. Some would call it bold and daring. I find it amazing that Israel would be "forced" into war on such terms. I find it very disturbing that a free country is being pressured to wave the while flag in portions to "support" democracy. Something seems wrong with that. It just does not ring as the way one friend really helps another, exposing it to armed attack as would be the outcome if Syria obtains even a millimeter of the Golan which is rightfully Israeli territory. Friends do not ask other friends to surrender.
16. Israel betrayed by U.S. on June24,2002
Marcel ,   Florida   (11.30.06)
That was the day presidnetr bush called for a Palestinian state. The rest is just fall out from this betrayal of the Jew's. It will only get worse for Israel because they hitched their wagon to this evil man and his evil plan. The Bush Road Map noose is tightening on the Jews for a second holocaust in Israel. Will the Jews once again climb aboard the trains to the death camps without a fight ? Who will peplace a spineless Olmert who betrays Israel to please his kapo master ?
17. to #13 BROD
ingram   (11.30.06)
AGREE WITH YOU 100%
18. Baker the peace maker
Media Critic ,   USA   (11.30.06)
If the world and the Israelis listened to Baker during his reign, 911 would not have happened, thousands of lives would have been spared and we would have had peace for all that time.
19. keeping the status quo.
Media Critic ,   USA   (11.30.06)
The problem with the Israeli hard liners, is that they do not trust the Arabs no mater what, even though Egypt, Jordan and few other Arab countries have signed a peace treaty with Israel. They are not wiling to change the status quo for a very important reason, anyone knows what is it?
20. The usual answer
Arie ,   Afula   (11.30.06)
sacrifice the Jews.
21.  nationalistic suicide
shlomo ,   pa, usa   (11.30.06)
Let me give the government of Israel a warning. Israel is a country literally surrounded by Arab countries. Right now your land mass is about the size of New Jersey. NO ARAB COUNTRY WANTS ISRAEL IN THE REGION. By giving up more and more land to your enemies, and yes they are your enemies, you are putting the country (israel) at a security risk. Every time israel gives up territory the Arabs laugh. Call it whatever you want, but you are giving in to Arab terrorist. To give up any portion of the Golan would be suicide. Iraqs stability should have nothing to do with Israel. If the terrorist see that their violence has an effect on Israels land, they will just keep it up in hopes of wiping Israel off the map. Israel needs to make a statement and not put up with this crap.
22. James Baker was and is no friend of Israel
SR ,   NYC   (11.30.06)
The guy just refuses to die and surfaces from time to time to clean up Bush Jr.'s messes. It's time for him and the rest of the fascist Republican cabal to join their god, Ronald Reagan.
23. I am getting a little angry Now
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (11.30.06)
This is getting to be a little annoying. A curupted PM who is allowing Israel to be sold down the River. Olmert has got to be kicked out of Office he and the US is selling Israel down the river. What does he have to gain from israel's destruction???
24. Ask Syria to Make Concessions
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.30.06)
They started three wars with us & lost. Who ever heard of the victor making concessions? Not surprising, Mr Close has business interests in Saudi Arabia. That should tell you something. Appeasement does not work. Nothing will change & nothing will stop the disintegration of Iraq. Iran & Syria will still sponser terrorism. The problem of Muslim extremism will remain. On the contrary, this will only fuel the fire.
25. If the jews were halfway decent
lydia ,   Brisbane, Australia   (11.30.06)
In their dealings with Arabs in general and the Palestinians in particular the US would not be put in the unenviable position of defending the jews and p***ing off the Arabs! Each time the unconscionable behaviour heaped on the Pals was brought before the UN sanction has been halted because of a US veto. Now the Arabs are making demands for their cooperation in Iraq, no such thing as a free lunch! You either STFU or go and do battle with Ahmadinejad on your own since the US can't help and China & Russia is with Iran. Bearing in mind that Hizbullah's rag tag army has just given you a jolly good hiding in Lebanon, I would SHTFU and do as I was told.
26. The strategy of appeasement
Cynic ,   USA   (11.30.06)
Sure, sell out the only democracy in the middle east to appease a bunch of dictators and terrorists.
27. RE #18: That is wishful thinking
Steve ,   USA   (11.30.06)
B"H Sacrificing Israel is like sacrificing an ally. It makes very bad sense to do so. If it were done before, it put the United States in a strong pinch, fostering the further violence against us by not standing up on the principle that Democracies have rights on the world stage that they are willing to defend. Your talk is wishful thinking because you fail to state what exactly you wished the world had listened to. You yourself did not listen enough to post it for commentors to evaluate. So how can it be claimed that that unstated talk would have "saved the world"? Be more concrete next time to gain some credibility with your readership.
28. CONSENSUS
MAC   (11.30.06)
Blair and Bush ,including his new Arabist team will now put pressure on Israel to give up more to the enemies surrounding the state. ( as France has been doing all along) They want to engage IRAN and SYRIA ,previously part of the axis of evil. This moral bankruptcy of the West is mirrorred by the incompetence of Israeli leaders. The country is in mortal danger of being sold down the river . This is already evidenced by the following : 1) Pollard is still in an US prison 2) There is no outcry to get the kidnapped soldiers returned. 3) The country is under missile attack , Israels response to the above is utterly inadequate ! Change leadership in Israel , stop accepting mediocrity, stop accepting the status quo . ISRAEL needs a Churchill,Ben Gurion,Golda Meir , Truman not the crap they got now !
29. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Media Critic ,   USA   (11.30.06)
I am really baffled by the blindness of the hardliners in Israel; peace is possible only if you let it. Jews and Arabs can coexist in peace again, When the Jews were being prosecuted in the past they flourished and prospered under Islamic Spain, for three hundred years. During the 11th 12th and 13th century the Jewish population in Islamic Spain reached its point of greatest prosperity, intellectual energy and well-being, coinciding with Cordoba's greatest moment in history. Cordoba was the star of western Europe, a center for prosperity, commerce and learning in the midst of the so-called Dark Ages. When the very light of civilization flickered among poverty and ignorance to the north, Cordoba's paved streets were illuminated with street lighting. The Jewish community thrived under the religious tolerance of Islamic Spain, and contributed actively to its prosperity and intellectual energy. Hasday ben Shaprut, the governor of the Jewish community, became an influential minister to the Islamic Spain Government, increasing his people's well-being and turning Cordoba into the most significant center of Jewish learning and culture in the world, taking the place of the Babylonian School.
