1. If the religious want to boycott anything, go right ahead
(12.04.06)
2. Every Landing Always Late
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.04.06)
Fly Continental!
3. Tell him to shut his big mouth
Joshua ,   Isreal   (12.04.06)
we the people will live according to ourselves and not him.
4. Please make the boycott
Sagi ,   Israel   (12.04.06)
absolute so that I can resume flying once more with my National airline. It is a very unpleasant experience to travel with these people, I have travelled with Lufthansa in recent years, not out of any love of the Germans, simply because it is the airline less frequented by Haredim.
5. Can Neta get some FACTS?
sk ,   USA   (12.04.06)
"It should be noted that the Orthodox sector constitutes a large percentage of the El Al’s customers, and the airline generally makes sure to maintain Kashrut and Shabbat." Yes, Neta, but the issue isn't the Orthodox public but the Haredi public, which is a small minority. I find it hard to believe that Israir would drop Shabbat travel to appease those who are, in general, high-maintenance and low-income. Maybe if you REPORTED, you might be able to shed light on whether this threat is credible.
6. Yes....Sabbath indeed Haredim
MK ,   USA   (12.04.06)
"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath"(Mark 2:27) "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" "Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?" "His opponents cannot perceive the redemptive nature of Christ's Sabbath ministry because they `judge by appearances' (John 7:24). They regard the pallet which the paralytic carried on the Sabbath as more important than the physical restoration and social reunification which the object symbolized (John 6:10-11), more significant than the restoration of sight to the blind mind (John 9:14-15,26)." I wonder when the Haredim will open their freaking BLIND EYES and wake up.
7. Fly Right
Sam ,   NJ   (12.04.06)
My ELAL flights have been on time.I would like to see them not fly on Shabbat.
8. Boycott El AL
Sinora Mordecai ,   Ashdod, Israel   (12.04.06)
I personally am a regular flyer with EL AL since making Aliyah to Israel 10 years ago. I know that EL AL is the best Airline in the world because of its Security Measures. No amount of Boycott's can take that away. I suggest the Haredim Community should stop being Hypocrites. They are allowed to Smoke, Leech at women and watch Porn movies on cellphones. I live in a Haredi Area in Ashdod and have been on numerous occasions being eve teased by Dati Married men. They whistle when they pass other women. I was shocked by this initially but soon learnt that their lovely black cloaks are not signifying their purity at all. They only use it as a means to avoid doing whats morally right. Their wives go to work and raise children whereas the husbands are praying all day long. Their children do not sacrifice their lives on Israeli borders. EL AL had to take the hard decision of not observing Shabat only under extreme circumstances. Even in the Torah one is allowed to abstain from fasting on Yom Kippur if it jeopardises ones health. So the Haridim should stop acting all high and mighty and search their own conscience for a change. Are they so picture perfect themselves or are they trying to get some extra benefits monetary from EL AL like they do from the Bituach Leumi ? Who Should Boycott Whom here ?
9. Advice for Sagi
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.04.06)
Schedule all your travel for Friday PM and Saturday, problem solved! Nesiah tovah!
10. Who remembers Tower Air?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.04.06)

11. I Remember Tower Air Kyle
Al ,   Canada   (12.04.06)
Used to take it to NYC where I was dipping this Haredi Chic who always made sure she davened Mincha before. Dont Ask..Geez what a screwed up people we are..
12. I had the highest respect for El Al
Steve ,   USA   (12.04.06)
B"H I had the highest respect for El Al ... when it observed the Shabbos, and I hope that it continues to do so again in the near future. It is an important security concern for me that such an airline can make such a distinction. With the recent Russian spy incident, security actually does matter. One indication of a secure plane is one that observes Shabbos, because it is G-d's commandment to not murder along with G-d's commandment for Jews to observe Shabbos. I hope the airline returns to health. In the meanwhile, I will take it as a sign to not fly this airline until it can straighten out its business practices.
13. El-Al cause for concern
Ariel ,   Canberra, Australia   (12.04.06)
It is a sad state of affairs when El-Al is forced to decide whether to catch up on flights missed on Friday because of the airport strikers. Of course, it is upsetting that El-Al flew on Shabbat. The problem for us Shomrei Shabbat is that if we fly El-Al on Tuesday, are we supporting a Jewish employer who operates on Shabbat? How can I support my fellow Jew being forced to work through his/her holy day off? Oh, I forgot! Only in Israel, are Jews looking for ways to desecrate our traditions, whilst the rest of us are looking for ways to enhance them!
14. ELAL
John ,   United States   (12.04.06)
I lived in Israel for 9 years where I served in the Israeli Army. They should not say anything about elal flying on shabat when they don't even serve in the army. while we are risking our lives in the army, and some of the haridem who don't serve in the army are siting with there feet on the table collecting money from the gov't they should not say anything about elal. if elal wants to fly on shabat then its there right to do it. after all, its brings tourists to israel than go for it,
15. Headline - israir
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (12.04.06)
Don't they fly on Saturdays?
16. Opportunity for El Al to be a normal airline
Michael ,   Haifa   (12.04.06)
The revenue from a seven day a week operation will offset the blackmail payments made to the haredim.
17. Nu? Ma Chadash?
(12.04.06)
18. I am now more likely to fly on El Al.
sk ,   USA   (12.04.06)
And I am willing to take a $100-$150 hit in the process (as opposed to taking the cheapest airline at the time).
19. Know your sects
B ,   Jerusalem   (12.04.06)
Don't confuse the Dati Leumi and Charedim. They are completely different in how they behave and relate to the public. Just because someone wears a kippa doesn't make them religious. If they are Americans, it is espcially important to remember this. In Israel there is no concept of "reform" or "conservative" ect Judaism...it's all or nothing...and this leads to bigotry. You don't have to go all one way or all the other. Many Jews are happy in the middle. Take a lesson. As for El Al... I don't think I would feel comfortable flying on an airline that didn't keep shabbos, particuarly overseas. The Jews have a protection from Hashem...and the more mitzvot you keep, the stronger that protection is. Would El Al's protection, for keeping Shabbos, remain? I don't know. I wouldnt want to find out.
20. Men
Ann ,   Jerusalem   (12.04.06)
Also- Charedim men do not "pray" all day. My own rav, one of the most machmir I know, learns, has a full time job, plus a multitude of other side jobs. He's a security guard, a kollel man and a multitude of other side jobs. His wife raises the kids, cleans the house and has her own side project. These men are not lazy but probably the most motivated men you will meet.
21. Seperate airlines
arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (12.04.06)
Please let them boycott. Please let them establish their own airline. I stopped using El Al for a while after enduring a flight to the states with the Haredim. Out of consideration for them there were no movies. I had to give up my choice aisle seat because it was I was the wrong gender. Why couldn't they move? In addition to that, our section of the plane stank. Is deodorant unkosher? Let them establish their own airline with yeshiva pilots. Oh I forgot. THey don't do the army.
22. Baruch Hashem!
Religious Israeli ,   Shomron   (12.04.06)
Now maybe the rest of us will be able to fly without the blacks (hats, that is) smelling up the whole plane!
23. Good time for the government to sell their shares
Ilan ,   Ariel   (12.04.06)
Stock is down and they are in the red, but after 20% of the customer base moves elsewhere? Sell before the taxpayer loses all remaining value.
24. To 19
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (12.04.06)
No confusion of sects possible for anyone in the know. The Dati Leumi are one of the most possitive forces of Judaism in Israel. Their sons not only serve in the army, they are among its best soldiers. Their daughters can be seen in hospitals and schools doing sherut leumi. One of the reasons why the Golan is the best place in Israel to live is that their is a symbiotic relationship between secular and religious. However the black hats are something else. And they are turning a religion that is progressive and humanistic into a cult.
25. Reply to Sagi concerning El Al
Stanley ,   london   (12.04.06)
Sagi you jewish antisimite not only should you fly with the German airline you should live with the Nazi bastards as you sympathise with them, who needs enemies with jews like you shame on you
26. Poor small reactions
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (12.04.06)
I will not talk about the guy who refers to christians to tlak about judaism... small mind... I will not talk about all of these racist (yes yes) reactions that talks about 'haredim like animals Not to talk more about the fact that all of you look to be so blind that you don't understand how much the service in elal is low, and the prices so high... and the planes so full of people who knows, he see what i mean ? But to be concrete, if you take time to find the facts that you really don't know about, ask elal what they prefer, loose the 'haredim, and fly in shabess ? Muhahahahaha.... Just before the end, people like all of you were so shure about the power of tsahal, you didn't make tshouva now ? really: LOL !
27. Haredim, Belz, Satmer etc
Sagi ,   Israel   (12.04.06)
Please boycott El Al. Please boycott All Israeli institutions as you do the army. Please boycott Israel, period. You are making life very difficult and unpleasant for all normal Israelis who just happen to be the majority. Please stay in NY and refrain from boarding planes bound for Israel. Once you have become a burden for the people of NY as you have become for Israel you can return to the rocks from which you were quarried, to Poland and Russia. As hewers of wood and drawers of water in your original villages you will feel at home, will have no need to fly on planes and can wear your ridiculous outfits and conduct your life according to your wishes. Kibbutz Galuyot obviously means nothing to you, building a Nation means nothing to you. If you want to live in a secluded and isolated society as do the Aimish, I would have respect for you, but you do not wish this, you act as missionaries, people of vision, prophets, the only ones who know the "truth" and try to impose this "truth" on everybody else. Live your lives, as you wish, but let others live as they wish. Life is sacred and so is the right to live it according to ones conception of it. Live and let live. Good luck in Poland and Russia when you finally end up there, that is where you really belong, in the past.
28. to all of you
ben avrham ,   london   (12.04.06)
intresting. wen it comes to talk about haraidim and you read the talkbacks, you close your eys and you can see the germen propegande in front of you. first it starts with "I can't seat next to this hareidim and continus with they are money suckers, stincking jews, don't go to the armey !!! now let me tell you all my piece of mind the subjects is boycotting elal because they don't fullfill the willing of us the client and as a client who pays fully for the travel tickets I can do with my money what I like and yes its not a mitzve to go to tzava and I don't want to serve the armay, thugh luck!!! and hareidim is not only in israel
29. Non-Charedi
Non-charedi Agrees ,   Tel Aviv   (12.04.06)
I am not Charedi but agree perhaps El Al is the one thing that represents the jewish values this country is supposed to be founded on...if not for the Torah, then whats the point of it all - australia is much more normal!
30. # 25 Stanley
Sagi ,   Iarael   (12.04.06)
Your attack on me shows only one thing, shallowness of intellect. Talmud : Any love which is dependent on something, that thing is cancelled, the love is cancelled. That love which is not dependent on anything will last forever. My love for Israel is not contingent, I have served my country with honor and love for many years and in many ways, with great sacrifice and in this respect I can hold my head high. The only thing I am ashamed of is scroungers and leeches like the Haredim, when I see them I hang my head low. If all this warrants the epithet "antisemite" then so be it. I repeat, it is most unpleasant to fly in a plane full of Haredim, their behaviour leaves much to be desired and in some cases is quite obnoxious.
