Teach everything.
2. Palestinian textbooks
Daniel ,   Jerusalem   (12.05.06)
And still at MEMRI and HonestReporting they accuse the PA of making textbooks in which the entire region (PA+Israel) is depicted as 'Palestine'. I guess that complaint of MEMRI and HR just lost a lot of validity. What basis do we have to criticize the Palestinians for not including Israel on the maps in their textbooks, while we portray Gaza City, Ramallah and Nablus as being part of Israel?
3. Patently Non-Educational Message From Tamir
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (12.05.06)
The so-called "green line" was an artificial creation, a mere cease-fire line, that existed for only 19 years in all of history. It has no legal, moral, historical, cultural, or religious significance. But Hebron, Jerusalem, Shechem, Beit Lechem, Shilo, etc... DO have significance. THIS is the educational message that needs to be passed on to our children.
4. FITH COLUMISTS SHOULDNT WRITE OR TEACH HISTORY
AMI ,   ISRAEL   (12.05.06)
THIS WILL PROBABLY BE WIRSE THEN THE ARAB TEXT BOOKS CONSIDERED THE AMOUNT OF SELF HATE COMMING FROM PEOPLE LIKE TAMIR AND THE FACT THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO BEND OVER BACKWARDS TO ACCOMODATE TERRORISTS, IF DEMOCRACYS DONT WAKE UP AND RELIZE THERE ARE SOMETHINGS YOU CANT BE P.C. ON THEN IT WILL LEAD TO ITS OWN DEMISE.
5. Doesn't she have anything better to do?
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (12.05.06)
I guess the Education System is in such wonderful shape that she can concern herself with such matters as political indoctrination of Israeli students. All these left-wingers make me sick.
6. dumb bitch
Juan   (12.05.06)
Why not teach the people the truth and teacht them about their connection and kesher to the land. This goes way back before 1967. You are continuing yossi sarid's way of trying to destroy this country.
7. Wait a minute!!
Michael Steiner   (12.05.06)
We vituperate the Palestinians for teaching their quack geography and here we are doing exactly the same. The Green Line is the international border of the State of Israel and it is every Israeli citizen's duty to know the full history of this demarcation as well as its relevance to the present day.
8. Worst Gov't In Israeli History
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.05.06)
It just gets worse by the day. It's REALLY time for new elections & throw these people out of gov't.
9. Revisionist history
Nachash Tsefah ,   Tel Aviv   (12.05.06)
Perhaps the Minister would like to use the Palestinian narrative and maps in Israeli schools? I despair for this generation of kids, who are being indoctrinated with post-Zionist, defeatist, self-hating propaganda. After this "education", and after being made aware of the incompetence and slackness in TZAHA"L that is now being revealed, what motivation will the average high school graduate have to serve in the army and put his / her life on the line for Israel?
10. It is time fo this government to fall!!

12. Cease-Fire Lines, Not Border
Joe ,   Efrat, Israel   (12.05.06)
As Education Minister Tamir and former Education Minister Sarid surely know, the so-called "Green Line" marks the 1949 cease-fire lines between Israel and the countries that occupied Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem (Jordan) and Gaza (Egypt) at the conclusion of the War of Independence, until the Six Day War of 1967. It in no way is any kind of "border," since there was never any legally constituted state on the other side of the line. Israel needs to stand up for its historic and legal rights to the areas illegally occupied by foreign powers from 1949 to 1967, and to teach its youth about the fundamental bond between Eretz Yisrael and the Jewish people, stemming back millennia. Including some artificially imposed "Green Line" on maps of our country included in textbooks is self-defeating and sends the wrong message to our young people.
13. some observations
yaakov ,   Jerusalem   (12.05.06)
1)sarid, aloni, tamir,, ah the list of educational miseducators that have been given this ministry would gladden a may-day parade in n.korea. 2) #1-- "teach everything" ok then, teach the relevance of self hatred exhibited by the current hilonim in the public schools, bring in religious nationalist teachers to expose on the need of hilonom to be goyim., 3) yesh guval is looking for members mohammed steiner, i am sure you would qualify!
14. Anti Zionist B.S.
Avraham ,   Netivot   (12.05.06)
Yuli Tamir is nothing but trouble. She is pushing her revisionist anti Zionist view on our children instead of teaching them why they are here & who they are. We have a very rich history that is not being taught to our children, & for this we will pay a very steep price. This lefty inept & incompetent government must be brought down now. Kadima is nothing but garbage. Am Yisroel Chai V'Kayiam.
15. borders
gil ,   ashkelon   (12.05.06)
Why not going back to 1947 ones, since they are the only accepted internationaly, except by arabs. So our children will be prepared either to start from the very beginning of the story,or to start thinking where to locate after leaving
16. reason at long last
Michael ,   Haifa   (12.05.06)
This is the first sensible thing that the Ministry of Education has done, since the crazy and ignorant Livnat woman left the Ministry
17. Joe - #12
MF ,   Israel   (12.05.06)
zjor has said it all. If the recommended Israeli school books also include the Tnach, there would be some balance. The "Green Line" should be in any case defined accurately in all textbooks as "cease fire" lines because the years since it was demarcated have lead to death and suffering because it was never an internationally agreed secure border.
18. Education Minister
Ausi ,   Sydney   (12.05.06)
This is are homersexuel Education Minister its geting better evrey day next we will be teaching the Koran
19. Wrong and misleading
Sagi ,   Israel   (12.05.06)
"the 1967 borders are at the base of the Palestinian and Arab demands for establishing an independent Palestinian state". Wrong : The 1967 "borders" were not borders but rather were demarcation lines agreed upon at the Rhodes armistice agreement. There is a great legal divide between the term border and demarcation line in international law. Misleading : The demarcation line is not at the "base" of the conflict. The base of the conflict is simply the fact that we, the Jews actually breath, live and exist. No borders or demarcation lines will satisfy the Palistinians. Only our eradication, if not from the world, then at least from the region. Why there are still amongst us elements who persist in using terms relating to peace and harmony when the Arabs, within and without, have never refrained from stating their goal of destruction of Israel and removal of its inhabitants, is beyond my comprehension. May I add that they have been consistent in this for 60 years, right up till this very moment. Why do we insist on blind leaders, leading deaf men to an abyss and then pushing them over.

22. Yet another kapo in the Olmert government!
Nannette ,   London, UK   (12.05.06)
23. Partition, '48, post '67, ?? All are not final borders
Ilan ,   Ariel   (12.05.06)
Israel doesn't have final borders. That is the fact of the situation. As to what role the education ministry should have in promoting one set of borders or another is a different story. I see no reason not to teach that Ramat Eshkol, the Western Wall, the Jewish Quarter, Golan, Judea and Samaria are outside of the '48 armistice lines. That's fact. As long as the '48 lines are presented as either being our international borders (they are not) or as final.
24. THE KAPO'S STRIKE AGAIN: "NA'AM MEINE ABU, ALLAH HEIL"

(12.05.06)
The West Bank still has Israeli flags flying over it whether you like it or not. It is a part of Israel. Palestinians teach their kids something which is not true, we teach them the truth... I don't find a place called Palestine anywhere in the West Bank region...
27. TAMIR - LIEBERMAN
Mitchell ,   Boca Raton   (12.05.06)
Clearly the government of Israel resembles Dr. Doolittle's two headed animal- the "Push Me Pull You". Tamir is on one end and Lieberman on the other. Tamir wants to return Israel to the Auschwitz Borders while Lieberman wants to "purify" the population. God help Israel because Olmert hasn't.
