For example, Shaklee. As long as they don't insist that you load-up on product in advance, and as long as they give you solid business training, they can be a great help in getting the novice businessman off the ground.

is that, a) they usually are not some much actually into selling a product, as much as getting you to get other people into selling the product. b) if you exponetiolise you can see that eventually you run out of people in the world to get to join the scheme and you would have to start a scheme on mars or venus to get the returns they suggest. c) if there is a real product that people actuall do want to buy (usually its something you don't want and can get cheaper elsewhere) you usually have to invest a lot of money and have a lot of stock and sell it at a ridiculously high price just in order to get your money back. d) you are making your money from the backs of other people who are trying to sell the product.. or getting other people to join. e) the only people who really make the money are the people who start the scheme. f)this idea has been going on at least since the "dutch tulip" fiasco and the "south sea bubble" in the 1700's.. the dutch were left with a load of worthless tulip bulbs and the "south sea bubble was so much hot air. g) governments such as the uk have made these schemes illegal.

There's a great book about people caught up in the 17th century tulip craze. It's called _Tulip Madness_, don't remember the author, though.
