31. Never!
Paul ,   England   (12.06.06)
There is no way the Israeli people will let this happen. After decades of giving concessions to our enemies, *all* of us now know that they do not seek peace. They seek our destruction. We armed the Palestinians as part of the Oslo Accords, and then they used it against us. We gave back Lebanon and Hizbollah used it against us. We gave back Gaza and Hamas/Fatah used it against us. Even Olmert would not be so stupid as to return such a strategic part of Israel to a nation that has, and would without question again, use it against us. Before the six day war, the Syrians regularly used the "Syrian Heights" to shell Israeli kindergartens and villages. Israel lost many soldiers defending themselves at this site and now we have this land, we should UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES give it back to our enemies. Doing so would put Israeli lives in grave danger and therefore is in absolution contravention to Torah law.

33. IRAQ REPORT
Chester ,   Boca Raton USA   (12.06.06)
It seems to me, from a brief glance at the report that nobody contemplated turning Iraq over to the Arab League. The Arab League should be given 3 months to put in an army composed of soldiers, from Egypt, Jordan, Morroco, Saudia Arabia etc. who will return Iraq to civilized social order. Then no one can say that Iraq is occupied and it will return to the Arab fold. The Arab League will have every reason to prevent Iranian influence and they will disarm Iran from any justification for involvement.

35. Why Bush is losing the war and ruining the M. East
Steve ,   USA   (12.06.06)
Britian's SundayTimes reported that Olmert's offer to surrender territories to the jihadits last week at David ben Gurion's grave, was in response to a "dictate" given to him by Bush and Rice in their Washington meeting, a dictate that follows the many dictates given to Sharon to exercise "restraint" and to retreat in the face of the jihad. This in no way exculpates Sharon or Olmert for their many surrenders to the enemy and to Washington's immoral dictates. It certainly goes a long way however to explain President Bush's moral failure as a war-time president. Historians, I believe will so record.
36. Baker

this idiot doesn`t have a clue of what he is saying,he is drunk again, send him back to the clinic.
37. A Political Blunder with Syria
Steve ,   USA   (12.06.06)
B"H If the US Security Guarentee is that it will hand over Israeli territory to its sworn enemies, that is some security guarentee. But now this talk of negotiations with Syria with preconditions must stop. This report has preconditions. That is a political blunder that I do not think the Syrians could accept. It is like asking Hamas to negotiate. Does not Hamas reside and represent Syria? Does it not already negotiated with the PA instead of Israel? This is very destabalizing for Syria, and I think Syria has no more interest in negotiating than Hamas does. Hamas is after all Syria's representative already. Step 1. Lebanon goes, with internal instability already pushing it to the brink, and Syria taking over its territory. Step 2. Syria goes, with internal instability pushing it to the brink if it gets overextended. I would be very suprised if Syria signs on to it. It has enough headache already to deal with Hamas representing it. Quote: Beilin Praises US Call to Leave the Golan Heights 21:14 Dec 06, '06 / 15 Kislev 5767 (IsraelNN.com) The head of the left-wing Meretz-Yahad opposition party, MK Dr. Yossi Beilin praised the report submitted by former US secretary of state, James Baker, calling on Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights. Baker is suggesting the move as part of a comprehensive area peace agreement. Beilin stated, “I hope this brings an end to calls to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to enter into talks with Israel without preconditions.”
38. Goodbye America, time to go home

Israeli-Arab conflict nothing to do with the age old sectarian (Shia-Sunni) conflict. Then why Kurds-controlled northern region is peaceful?

44. I didn't realize they were writing a script for a comedy
Cynic ,   USA   (12.06.06)
Who are these guys kidding. The Syrians implement 1701, the Syrians assist in the investigations of the murders of Harriri and Gemayel and so on. This is another worthless piece of paper. By the way, yesterday Syria was busy hosting Hamas and IJ, who were planning their next war against Israel.
45. Baker baking up a storm in an oven
John ,   NZ   (12.06.06)
Haven Baker learnt anything from Gaza. Golan could be the Gaza of the north and worst, it's controlled by Syria which also controlled by Iran. HAHAHAHA, do you really think Syria would stop aid to Hizbollah by giving them back Golan. Fat hope Baker. I suggest you spend yor last golden years shutting up yor mouth and enjoy life while it last rather than writing stupid non-sensical reports like this.
46. George Bush was against this idea!
Mark ,   USA   (12.06.06)
George Bush refused to seek a peaceful solution to the Arab/Israeli conflict. He was asked many many times to intervene. He did nothing. He watched the conflict rage on and on. At least Baker wants to solve the conflict. Bush has prolonged it for his own self-interest in oil and the defense industry. I blame Bush. I thank Baker.
47. Only return Golan in exchange for 20K US troops on border
RA   (12.06.06)
With robust rules of engagement, fully armed and mechanized. The US cant expect Israel to sacrifice its security for their interests. Likewise, any such deal should include immediate release of all soldiers held captive by the Arabs
48. US security gaurantee
(12.06.06)
what a joke? when was the US able to gaurantee security to anyone? or should i say, when they do promis to gaurantee security, how often do they keep their promise? The US has a terrible record of standing up for its allies, Israel must realize this. Don't make any deal that makes you even more dependent on America. They could care less about your security.
49. peace in the middle east
(12.06.06)
how long will it take for people to realize that for Israel to have peace it cannot be brokered by the Americans, Europeans Saudis or Iranians, or anyone else. They just want to manipulate Arabs and Israelis for their selfish goals. Kick them all out and let us solve our own problems
50. Enough kissing Arab butt!!!!
Natan ,   Philadelphia, USA   (12.06.06)
If the Israeli\Palestinian conflict was not the reason for invading Iraq, why the hell is this the solution??? The US dug itself a deep hole. First it was WMDs, then it was democracy, and finally the "global was on terror" They used every excuse under the sun to justify one of the dumbest moves in American history!!! Now, in order to remedy this, they are willing to sacrifice their ONLY true ally in order to save their butt!!! USA, want to appease the Arabs? be my guest. Want to kiss their oil filled butt? Be my guest. NOT AT ISRAEL'S EXPENSE!!! Oh by the way, want to solve the illegal immigration problem in the US? Give California and Texas back to Mexico...
51. Outrageous!
D Campbell ,   Keswick USA   (12.06.06)
52. Hey, Baker! Give Texas back to the Mexicans!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam (from N.J.)   (12.06.06)
We have more rights to the Golan Heights than the U.S. has to Mexico and most of the whole dman country seeing as it was settled by displacing the Native Americans! We have been here longer than the Arabs!!
53. Baker is and Idiot
Carl ,   Honolulu, HI   (12.06.06)

55. First we give back texas, arizona,ca.,new mexico
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.06.06)
to the mexicans and then Israel will give our Golan to syria. There were Jews living in Jewish settlements and towns on the Golan before mohammad was born. Let that anti-Israel and anti-Jewish baker drop dead.Let him go back defending his saudi masters against law suits by the relatives of victims of 9/11. And bush the hypocrite let him shut up.He is the best thing that ever happened to the democrats. He is the hidden co-chairman of the d.n.c.
56. Is his name james or Jamal?

57. ISREAL IF YOU WANT PEACE THAN WITHDRAW TO PRE 1948 BORDER
MOHAMMAD ,   USA   (12.06.06)
IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHAT I MEAN.
58. return all occupied land....
Mohammed choudhury ,   London, UK   (12.06.06)
Baker is correct and is doing the right thing. He should’ve become President instead of George W’s father. Anyway, wouldn't it be nice if Israel returned all occupied land to the people they belong to so that we in the rest of the world could get on with our lives rather than listen to all the rubbish coming from Israel. Return the lands and make peace.
59. Baker - a blessing in disguise
Arn ,   Tel-Aviv   (12.06.06)
Assuming Baker finds a willing ear with Bush beleaguered as he is with Pelosi's pipe-dreaming Dems on one side and the quicksands of Iraq on the other. Bush, Baker, Rice and company are so assured of Israel's pliability that it would be enough for them to simply hint what they expect the Olmert administration to do for Israel to fall immediately into line. Of course, if Israel doesn't instantly fall into line the Americans are very adept and practiced at punishing. They have done so before and in each instance Israel went down on all fours and crawled back begging forgiveness. Some proud nation we are! This time, however, there is no way the Golan will be returned so that Baker will have yet another accounting with Israel. Israel must inevitably suffer America's punishment whatever it may be. And it will cost us dearly. Of this we can be certain. But if we are surviving only by the good graces of US presidents than we have been lying to ourselves all along. This is the time Israel must underline its inherent independence and autonomy by trusting itself and trusting its own devices. It will cost us and we will come away scarred - but we will also come away far healthier - and stronger than ever before. Olmert (as a lawyer where money is the foundation of everything) has no backbone to speak of. Israel just has to be patient and wait till he leaves. I think we need a Prime Minister with the stubbornness and determination and perseverance of Haniyeh. The Pals have all the luck it seems. They have Haniyeh and we have Olmert. It should have been the other way around.
