Dror, this is an excellent article! I'm sure you'll agree that we still don't know much about "asexuals" due to the very low incidence. My question is: can asexuals have a gay/lesbian relationship (obviously based just on "romance")? Asexuals do not have sex drive. We all agree on that. But...why are they also oblivious to people flirting with them? Is the cause physiological, psychological or just social? Is it politically incorrect to ask: is there anything we can do to help them? Once again, thanks Dror for a great article.
3. Oh How I Know That Problem
Fasulia Hudra   (12.08.06)
She was ever so beautiful. Her long auburn hair hung so delicately about her shoulders. She wore the most exquisite top and long flowing skirt that exquisitely showcasedher femininity. The dinner was fabulous and the drinks devine. We danced forever and went back to my apartment. And then the moment came. I made my move. I was feeling so promiscuous. It was then she told me she was anti-miscuous.

I don't think you can be both gay and asexual. If you're gay you have sexual feeling towards other men, but as an asexual, you feel no sexual attraction towards men or women.

God has entrusted man and woman with sexual desires in order that human race be continued and preserved. But as usual, man takes everything to extremes and goes astray, misusing the gift and creating problem.Mind you being an asexual makes a real change in this day and age where everything is so obssessively drenched in sex. This goes to show that once again man cannot handle God's gift and will pay for it very dearly in his case.
6. Asexuality
Petra Blumenfeld ,   USA   (12.08.06)
Is natures way of 'birth control." Perhaps being gay might also be included. Plants, other species are gay as well, so what? The only animal with morality is us. If You think about it, wars can also be described as 'birth control.' Sounds strange but, it is a possibility.
7. #4 Individual behavior
Mark ,   USA   (12.08.06)
Most people experience sexuality by themselves. Sexuality does not require a partner. I only have to please me.
8. #4 Asexual = Sexual interest with self.
Mark ,   USA   (12.08.06)
That is the problem. Asexuals can have a sexual interest. Unlike other people we do not need another person to be involved in the sexual experience. We know how to satisfy our own needs but in a non-traditional way. It is very safe.
9. Defining Sexuality is very hard.
Mark ,   USA   (12.08.06)
President Clinton had to face this question when he had to explain his behavior with Monica Lewinsky. No pun intended, it was very hard.
10. #2 It is hard to explain to people.
Mark ,   USA   (12.08.06)
They do not understand and look at me as if I have eight heads.
11. Asexual=Celibacy?
John ,   NZ   (12.08.06)
Mark's definition of asexual is sexual interest with oneself. I tot everyone must have solo sex by themselves one way or the other; one time or another. Mandy's right. God gave us sexual desire to propagate with the opposite sex. Any deviation is demonic, sinful to say the least. Well, that's just my opinion.
12. #10 Dear Mark
enzo ,   london,uk   (12.08.06)
Dear Mark, I know one or two asexuals...they don't have eight heads. They are great people, funny, pleasant, "normal". They just don't get the "sex thing". That's all. Everybody has to live his/her life they way he/she wants. Judging people...? In the 21st cent.? For their sexuality? No way...!

I hope you don't mind a personal question. I see your talkbacks a lot, and your name sounds Italian. Are you? If my question is too personal, then please tell me off or ignore me.
14. #3 don't feel bad

It wasn't that the girl was asexual, it's just that your a bore. When that same girl came over to my house I can assure she had no inhibitions with me. Better luck the next time Fausy.

Plants are gay? Stop making up false science and pick up a book for a change

Oh, but it's so true that plants can be gay. Just today I was taking a walk and I walked by some male ivy that called out, "love your tush, mister. Come on out and see me sometime."

Maybe it is not so much that asexuals are oblivious to flirting, as that only people with any level of sexual obsession (however low) LOOK FOR sexual themes to everything someone else is saying and doing. Ask and ye shall receive, look and ye shall find, etc.; asexuals have no interest, so they never seek it out
22. miscommunications...flirtations...
Natlix ,   Israel   (12.25.06)
to #13... I'm amused... "ken" means yes in Hebrew... therefore either enzo is concurring his Italian roots.... or jokingly agreeing in hebrew... giving away his Israeli roots... or just messing with you... It could also just be his favorite parfume... k-enzo... anyways... are you actually trying to flirt or something on an article about asexuality? thats kinda ironic, no? Goodluck to you Miss Muffet.
