1. Ray and "compromise"
Z Lando   (12.10.06)
Ray - you know s well as I do that Israel has dne more than: "Compromise with Palestinians, use that to add substance to treaties with neighboring secular Arab nations like Jordan and Egypt" We gave away all of the Sinai. Gave up land to Jordan, and did all but lick Palestinian you know what in order to come to a solution. Or would you have us forget allowing Arafat in with all his terrorists, give them billions in $$$, give them GUNS.... Roy - go preach to your "brothers". Have them do ONE thing to come to "compromise" with Israel, in order that we can live in peace. You know, again, as well as I, that if you don't do something on YOR end soon... people like you will be swept away like so much dust by your "borthers" the Jihadists..... In Lebanon, there are Shiite bloggers doing all they can to fight Nasrallah and his gang of deluded thugs.... you should take up their courageous model instead of wasting time telling us what to do....
2. Yea, that explains alot
Tim ,   Ireland   (12.10.06)
The Iran/Irag war was israel fault Syria butcheing 20,000 Jordan explelling the terrorist PLO Irag invading Kuwait Nasrallah revolting in Lebanon Yea, right its Israels fault. Oh and before 1967, the arabs loved israel.
3. but ray, we know how agreements with palestinians end up
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.10.06)
you mock what has happened in iraq but you forget that history has shown, without exception, that any agreement with palestinians is deadly, deceptive, and not worth the paper it is written on. yet you propose that this is the solution. are you crazy? if there was no iraq war, no problem with iran, no problem from hizbullah, or other muslim groups for that matter, palestinians STILL would not honor a single item of any agreement they have committed to. THAT is the problem. get your "brothers" to understand how to cease violence on a permanent basis and you might begin to have a shred of credibility when you write such nonsense.
4. Iraq/Israel - the key issues the USA did not address
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (12.10.06)
If the war in Iraq was really supposed to benefit Israel or the Jews, here are some key issues the USA and its allies have conspicuously failed to address. 1. Saddam Hussein's trial - no charge whatsoever for crimes against humanity in respect of his support of Palestinian suicide bombers, the Scud missile attacks on Israel and his crimes against the Jews of Iraq. These should have been included in the indictment. 2. The hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Jews who were persecuted, expelled and dispossessed of their property - no attempt whatsoever to deal with this issue. Iraqi oil revenues and other assets should have been expropriated to provide compensation. Likewise for the Iraqi Jews murdered by Saddam Hussein's regime. 3. The remaining surviving Jews of Iraq - no guarantee whatsoever of freedom of religion, freedom from persecution or civil liberties. The Jews have been excluded from the rights given to others. 4. No requirement that the new government of Iraq recognise Israel and enter into full diplomatic relations. The USA and its allies chickened out. "Help-Israel strategy" what a sick joke.
5. Well Said Mr. Hanania
World Citizen ,   the world   (12.10.06)
You have the clearest understanding of the facts as any writer on this site. Israelis would be wise to carefully analyse your words and position.
6. Ray, the conflict has always been about Jihad, not territory
Ohev Tsion ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.10.06)
Ray, you're so naive thinking that Israel shoud "compromise" with the Palestinians. What do you think Barak's incredible offer to the "Pals" at Camp David was? We've tried all that. Anytime we offer land or evacuate land the "peace" just blows up in our faces. You love using the "neocon" label, so you deserve to be labeled a naive, leftist dreamer. Israel got out of South Lebanon in 2000 and out of Gaza in 2005 and all we got was tunnels, kidnappings and rockets. Wake up and stop being a lefty fool. This conflict is NOT about settlements or territory, instead it's an ethnic and cultural and religious conflict. Jihad is a sick religious belief among many millions of Muslims, and none of your appeasement/compromise baloney will ever satisfy the JIhadists, it will only encourage them in their present ways. Stop telling Israel what it should do, and humble yourself Mr. Ray.
7. Ray...Please wake up
Tal ,   Tel-Aviv   (12.10.06)
Listen to all the mediated and inteligent comments to your blathering. You jump to conclusions as if they were fact. How can we as Israelis make any agreements and move forward with a Palestinian entity ruled by the likes of Hannia and his Hamas murderers who refuse to recognize Israel, stop calling for our destruction, and most importantly refuse to respect previous accords signed and sealed by previous Palestinian legislatures. How would you like it if I said that all palestinians are dogs and should be put down, while at the same time saying I want peace...Would you believe me?
8. Why cant you be impartial Ray?
Jay ,   Israel   (12.10.06)
Tell me Ray, do you think israel has a right to exist? It certainly doesnt sound like it with your one sided proposal. A comprimise is always 2 sided, not just for Israel to appease the palestinians to get nothing in return. You know very well that the problem isnt with Israel, Its with the Palestinians that dont want peace, just the destruction of Israel,
9. Who cares what this feindish PLO supporter says??
Dudu ,   Kfar Sava   (12.10.06)
We know he does not have our best interests at heart. The man should stay in America and assimilate quietly over there.
10. Is Hananis a comic or political commentator?
Tony ,   NY, NY   (12.10.06)
He should be neither as he is not good at both. Maybe he should become a taxi driver?
11. I agree with Ray He is 100% correct
Mark ,   USA   (12.10.06)
Bush is a threat to world peace. I will be glad in 771 days when he will leave office. He is the worst president in American history. He is a dictator.
12. Ray is right Necons are "Con Men"
MARK ,   USA   (12.10.06)
13. So sad, but true
Arja ,   Canada   (12.10.06)
It really is time to address the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. It festers and can only lead to greater instability and violence in the Middle East... and elsewhere. Back in Feb. 2003, The New York Times reported that Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told members of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations that after Iraq, the United States should generate "political, economic, diplomatic pressure" on Iran. "We have great interest in shaping the Middle East the day after" the war...... only the Iraq war isn't over and doesn't look like it's about to end any day soon. And now the US is an occupying force that is using the same kinds of techniques as Israel, such as collective punishments (e.g. cutting off power and water to a community) ..... and building more resentment. What a mess! Isn't it obvious yet to these men who are trying to rule the world, that FORCE does NOT work. It might in the short run ... if that... but it's definitely not a solution for the long term. Isn't it time to try to envision peaceful coexistence, rather than planning for the next war. The aggression on Lebanon is in the past ...sort of... resulting in more instability and more resentment toward Israel. The next target is Iran and the USA is urged to lead the way, eh? What insanity!
14. US won! Viva Arab Civil War!!!
Avi Yerushalmi ,   Yerushalayim, ISRAEL   (12.10.06)
Can the snake bite it's tail? Yes, it does! Arab Civil War is even better than collapse of USSR! Bravo, Bush! Let Shii win! No, let Sunni win! Let both infidels win! Kill 'em all! Arabs from Israel go reinforce losers in Iraq!
15. no.7
john ,   USA   (12.10.06)
show me one agreement that israel has respected.then u talk about others respecting agreements????
16. Terrorize away Ray, thats all your people know.
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (12.10.06)
Terrorism didn't start in Iraq. It was going on well before Iraq ever began. And terrorism started when the Arabs tryed to push the Jews into the Medditeranean. Your bretheren are the ones lacking any compromise Ray. They want the Jews entirely eliminated from the Middle East. Why lie about their intentions, and encourage the bad behaviour by condoning it with, "if you would only negotiate away some land....the Arabs would stop." They aren't going to stop Ray, It's more fun to be a thug, get cheers from the bloodthirsty Roman Colliseum crowd. "You killed a Jew?" the Arab and Persian exclaim. "Let's go celebrate and hand out some candy to the bloodthirsty crowds in the streets." The bigger picture is the entire Mid East is a war waiting to happen Ray. That was what the American public doesn't get. More than likely it will be nuclear, and your Arab bretheren who relish killing Kaffirs, will be the receivers of the weapons. When casualty figures get to high, nuclear weapons are brought in to bring backwards assholes back into reality. So keep pushing and pushing and pushing those Jews and Kaffirs Ray. Your belief that Muslims want peace, is misguided, but you hug that thought and give away all your house for peace. It's a big Muslim lie. These Jews will eventually be backed into a corner, and the nuclear weapons will be dropped. That's your future for the Middle East Ray. The same future the Japanese encountered. Every creature will try to survive Ray. You can stomp on it and tell everyone that you aren't trying to kill it in the media. But the creature knows you are full of shit as its guts are being stomped into the ground.

Tho not a supporter of Bush or Hell-ary,have you already forgotten Jimmie,The Peanut King's dismal portrayel of Israel & his overt hatred of Jews? Too he.k with his habit for humanity, sucks as Jews are a non-enity as far as Jimmie & Baker are concerned! With Love of Israel, Lea
19. "srael’s snake oil lobbyists in the Bush administration"
(12.10.06)
20. With who does Israel strike a peace deal?
Yehuda ,   USA   (12.10.06)
In order to have a two-state peace agreement we need to have both peoples recognize the other’s right to independence. The democratically elected governing body in Palestine does not recognize Israel and repeatedly says in a clear voice they will never recognize Israel as a state. The Israeli government does recognize Palestinian rights to a state – so do the majority of Israelis. Abbas is not exercising his power to have the Palestinians elect a new government as he knows that Hamas will win again. Let’s face it, the Palestinians do not recognize Israel’s right to exist and if they wanted peace they would vote for another government. They can deal with corruption as a free nation, so why not get freedom first? I agree with Ray, as it’s hard to see the result of the Iraq War helping Israel or Palestine achieving peace. It will probably be won by chaos and radical mayhem. The Islamic world is regressing to the dark ages and will influence terror and irrational behavior in Palestine. The only solution to the conflict is a fair and just two-state solution. Israel cannot do it unilaterally but we do not have a partner to work with at this time.
21. #18 Kudos to Jimmy Carter
Arja ,   Canada   (12.10.06)
An American president... okay, former prez... who actually has the courage to say it like it is. He doesn't have to worry about getting re-elected so he doesn't have to kowtow to Jewish or Christian zionist lobbies. Yet, I give him credit for having broad shoulders to suffer all the criticism and vicious attacks launched against him. What Israel is doing to the Palestinians violates international law and human rights. The occupation must end in order for there to be peace in the Middle East. What a shame the US wasn't able to defeat the Iraqis and help shape the Middle East so that it would be more amicable and amenable to US and Israeli concerns and control ... and easier for Israel to confiscate the remainder of Palestinian land.
22. Arja and Carter awarded Lenin's "Usefull Idiot Award"!
Stewart Miller ,   USA   (12.11.06)
Arja is so busy spewing her one sided bias that she never has time to get her facts straight let alone Jimmy Carter. Carter's recent book has been slammed as being so inacurate by one of Carter's own, that he resigned his position at the Carter Library rather than be a part of Carter's continued antisemetic agenda and want no part of being associated with a man who wrote such an inacurate book. Alan Dershowitz took Carter's book apart claim by claim and wrote a whole expose' on it's numerous inacuracies, falsehoods, and biases. But, how would Arja know that? She's too busy filling her head and her gulible student's heads with biased reading and reporting. So enjoy your award. Just tell us where to send it and display it proudly.
23. yeah, kudos for Carter
israeli ,   israel   (12.11.06)
"this decent man has written such an indecent book about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alan-dershowitz/the-world-according-to-ji_b_34702.html http://powerlineblog.com/archives/016123.php http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53154 http://www.smalltownveteran.net/bills_bites/2006/12/speaking_frankl_1.html
24. They have created an Ishmael
marilyn   (12.11.06)
How can you fathom peace from war. can not be done. This reminds me of Abraham and Sarah, they had faith in the promises of God but their fault was in their own efforts of trying to bring about the prophesy , and they created a Ishmael, still a son of Abrahams but not the 'seed'. This is what some religious men are trying to bring about, certain prophesies that they are well aware of, but God will bring it about in His time and it won't be through war.'Not by might nor by power but by my spirit says Jehovah.'
25. Thank you ... thank you ... thank you :)
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL USA   (12.11.06)
What would I do without all the love that spills out all over these talkbacks? Jay asked a question that is ridiculous. Sorry. Obviously, you don;t read my writings much. But no problem. And for the others who dislike this column, the point is a discussion of how the Iraq strategy is going to hurt Israel. Seems that might be something oyu might be interested in discussing. And then there is the person with the name that is a four letter word for something not very nice -- he (or she) never says anything nice. I know these views just represent the minority view. People who are kind and considerate rarely take the time to write. (I applaud Arja for the persistence in demonstrating a fair and reasoned and balanced view). Thank you. This is a Democracy, right? I mean, we can discuss issues, correct? Bless you all, or as the Pope would say, "I'm so Jeeehad" to meet you :) Ray Hanania www.hanania.com
26. I agree with #14
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (12.11.06)
The best weapon to use against the Arab is another Arab. There is a old Arabic saying. "I against my brother, My brother and I against our cousin, My brother my cousin and I against the world" I say the US should give Iraq 6 months to get their act together one way or the other then smash Iran. No need to occupy it for more than a year. Just long enough to round up the nut jobs and scients there and break the country up into small competeing factions and let them all have at it.
27. ray in araby

28. YOUR WRONG
Sam Weinstein ,   usa   (12.11.06)
Sadam Hussain was paying suicide bombers 25000 a piece for each terror attack. Bombings were curtailed almost 80% after the war began. The next 20% came with the security barrier so how is Israel worse.
29. WRONG CONCLUSION
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.11.06)
Neither the US nor certainly Israel has any friends in the Middle East. There are no moderates, there are no "good guys", & basically, nothing works with Arabs. What is happening in Iraq was based on the false assumption that somehow Arabs were yearning for freedom & democracy. Westerners, especially Americans (and evidently, some Israelis) in their naive idealism, cannot understand the realities within Arab/Muslim societies. The unfortunate conclusion is that nothing works, not with moderates & certainly not with more extreme elements. The Americans were fooled in Iraq by supposed moderates dressed in nice suits & ties who used "western political language" to further their own agenda just as Westerners are fooled by supposed Palestinian moderates like Abu Mazen. I hate to break it to you Western people, but the ones wearing the suits & ties are usually power-hungry thieves & the ones with turbans are crazy religious fanatics. The tiny minority that really believe in Western ideas (and understand them) are in exile in the US, London, etc. There just aren't any good guys.
