32. The Christian Right and Israel
NYC Girl   (12.12.06)
As someone who spent several years on the extreme left of the American political spectrum, I can assure you there's nothing more appalling to me than the left's embrace of repressive Muslim regimes and their demonization of Israel. And, as an atheist, I'm no longer even bothered by any of the religious beliefs that may be the motivation behind the Christian right's support of Israel. In fact, in this country, we have an expression which is "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." Mr. Paritzky might do well to consider taking that advice.
33. Hence Democrats are in alliance with Fundamentalist Muslims!

34. #31, you must be kidding, not a snow ball's chance in hell..
yonatan ,   nyc   (12.12.06)
seriously though, that's fine. think whatever you want, but just leave us the alone please. we really don't care about jesus. that's just the truth. think what you want. i don't care. just stop imposing on us. and support israel if you want too, go right ahead, just leave us alone. we have our own beliefs and traditions and you have yours. you have clearly shown your lack of understanding and compassion for us as a people and for our beliefs. you wouldn't give two shits what happens to a jew in france for instance or even america(unless they convert), and your care for israeli jews is superficial at best. you don't care and we don't like you, so please do us all a favor and get lost.
35. #23- Denton. GREETINGS from ENTERPRISE !

We are neighbors, my friend ! - Same neck of the woods -
36. I'll take the Christian right, thank you.
alan ,   jerusalem, Israel   (12.12.06)
While living in America, election time always brought up the question: Which party would be better for Israel? For many years, we were always wary of the republican party for the reasons mentioned in this article. First of all, we were wrong. Democrats haven't exactly been our greatest friends. Even the recent Iraq report shows what our "friends" think of us. Second of all, we jews should have more in common with the religious right than with anyone else. They respect our beliefs and encourage us to be better jews. Thirdly, Im surprised that the author actually looked beyong the surface of their policies, I have yet to see a secular Israeli politician look beyond the surface of Arab policy toward Israel. The whole peace process ignores the fact that any aggreement is just a ploy to destroy us eventually. Is the author suggesting that this option is better? Personally, I'd rather say thank you to the Christian right and deal with the prophecy when the time comes, rather than put myself within range of Arab rockets.
37. this is hilarious
Joe Jew   (12.12.06)
here is a leftist, whose camp can only pursue their failed fantasies, who cannot see the fresh ideas of the "fundametalists", who cannot believe a faith based person can think, and HE'S AFRAID OF JESUS.

39. JEWISH YANKEES IN ALABAMA
RCA ,   USA   (12.12.06)
Yossi may have talked only to a small variety of Christian fundamentalists on his short trip throughout the South because it should be noted that all are not the same. There are groups within groups and sub-groups with major theological differences. Whether these differences matter or not is up to them, and that is just fine with me. Every group has a bonehead or two just like anywhere else you go. Fact is, these people, for the most part are a friendly, tough, good-natured people who because of their geography grew up doing and seeing things in certain ways. Some are stubborn, many are very open-minded. Generally they are all fun-loving group. While serving in the US Marine Corps in the early 1970s, I first became acquainted with Southerners. If necessary, I would not hesitate to fight side by side with these people. When push comes to shove, I definately want them on my side. It seems one thing Yossi did not do, was to talk to the Jews in the South. Did he even notice them ? Jews have been in the South since before the Civil War. Some even fought for the Confederacy. So they have been settled in for quite a long time. Getting along with others is something one learns by living in the South. Which is a point that I would like to make. It is something that everyone can benefit from by comming here. Our synagogue in the SE corner of Alabama, many would be surprised, is home to Jews from Forrest Hills, Kew Gardens, Pelham Parkway in the Bronx, Connecticut, and Florida. Last year we were visited by an Israeli filmmaker on route back to New York. So I don't think that Yossi has gotten the total picture of Southern living and its people especially when he focuses only on religious matters. Shalom !
40. Why Yossi isn't religious
Ilan ,   Ariel   (12.12.06)

43. Sit and watch policy?
Michael ,   New Jersey, USA   (12.12.06)
Freeing 50 million people in Iraq and Afganistan from tyranny, "honor killings", human sized shredding machines, mass graves, etc.; I don't know how you call that a "sit and wait" policy. Regarding Christians who believe we have a write to the Holy Land from the Bible. Dude, isn't that what we believe? Isn't that the reason we fight for a Holy Land located Israel and not a country somewhere else? There is no reason to respond to the false alarms raised by the those on the religious left who are anti-G-d and anti anyone who believes that there is a higher cause then Liberalism.
44. Thank you,Bible Belt!

48. Israel needs to be strong
marilyn   (12.13.06)
The Iranian bloke has been spewing threats and hatred towards the state of Israel. And we are aware that Israel needs to be strong. Also we are well aware of where this strength comes from. So we do desire to strengthen israel in encouraging you people to go to the everlasting arms of your God. No man can convert another and we have no place we want you to come to.because it is not a religion we are preaching but a return to the Holy One of Israel and it is His Word that is truth not a religion not a rabbi not a priest not ourselves not any man.
49. Well, you are wrong on everything
Lyn ,   USA   (12.13.06)
Well, I love you too Yossi! ~grin~ You have no clue what you are talking about and in all seriousness it makes me feel really bad if that is what you think of me as a christian. Like I said on another thread, it is not my place to drive someone crazy and try to convert them to christianity. Don't get me wrong, I believe Yeshua is the messiah whom I love dearly and if someone asked me about my faith and why I believe in the Lord, of course, I would tell them. It is not my place to judge and G-d gives us free will to choose and also it is through the holy spirit that one comes to know Yeshua, IMO. I feel like I am getting my words all wrong trying to explain myself but what I am trying to say is that I care about Israel and the jewish people because it comes from my heart. Not because it's the right thing to do or because of an agenda, it is simply because I feel protective and love towards your people and I know that it is G-d that put that love there in the first place. When I was younger, in high school, I learned about the holocaust and it was horrifying to read about and the pictures were so sad. I felt terrible that this atrocity happened in our world. But I didn't feel burdened by it to where I would want to reach out. Also, the holocaust happened 20+ years before I was born. But then, in '94 when I accepted Yeshua as my savior and began learning the things of G-d it was as if someone turned a lightswitch on and I could see clearly. If I am a child of God then naturally I would feel how He feels towards the jewish people and that is love and a desire to help and protect. That is all, nothing more, nothing less. And Yossi, both Jews and Christians study prophecy and we all want to learn the things of G-d but nobody I know is sitting and waiting on Gog/Magog. It's natural when you see prophecy playing out in current events that one would watch and pray. The jewish people are G-d's chosen people. He made unbreakable covenants with your people that are everlasting. That is a blessing. Do you really think that G-d is gonna just change his mind? You should be happy in knowing that He won't, ever. We as Christians and Jews need to agree to disagree on who messiah is and know that G-d loves us all and respect each other's belief but also stand together on helping one another. Yossi, not everyone has an agenda and not all christians are the same. Don't put us all in a box so to speak just because you maybe have had a bad experience with someone. Btw, you said an atomic bomb dropped on you (Israel) will bring about our messiah. That is not even scriptural and in fact it's insulting to me that you would even think that. Why do you think I write my senators and congressmen, help Rabbi Yeckstein and others when I can. Why do you think I post on message boards standing up for Israel and hoping someone will do something to protect you guys...because I am waiting on a bomb to drop??! NO! It is because I don't want to see another holocaust or intifada and yes Yossi the reason is simply because I care. It is so weird that you complain about me (or us "fundamental christians") and that I even need to explain myself. You should be worried instead about the one's with the bomb's strapped around their waist and the others creating nuclear weapons. Try not to be so cynical. You depress me. Here is a saying my mama taught me when I was about 5 years old, just for you - If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. ;-)
50. To #34
Lyn ,   USA   (12.13.06)
I posted on my feelings about this subject, it just hasn't made it to the board yet so I won't repeat it but I just wanted to reply to what you said. First, I am sorry you feel the way you do and personally I do not try to convert anyone. If someone was to ask about my faith then yes, of course I would tell them. And as for support for Israel, you said that "we evangelicals" don't care about jews in france, america, etc. Again that is not true. I am helping the Rabbi with the seniors in Ukraine and Russia right now. They have nothing (it's freezing, no heat, no proper medicines and very little food) and many of them are survivor's of the holocaust to top it off. I can't imagine thinking if my own mama were in a situation as dire as there's is and I worry that Putin will stop the flow of aid to them at any time. Most are too old to make aliyah. Many also feel very alone and isolated. We are not the enemy, ok? Also while I am thinking about it. I hate all these labels...fundamentalists, evangelical's, right wing, neo-con. Where in the world did all these labels come from anyway? I am just a human being that is a christian that lives in America. ~smile~ Take care!
51. Keep Land, Surrender leftists to arabs!

52. Fundamentalists alliance
JOHN SCHUMANN ,   VANC ,CANADA   (12.13.06)
SHALOM to Israel ,May you cry out to Him who is the beloved of YAHVEY[Psalm 2,Proverbs 30.1-6,Zech.11,13.],who was sold for 30 pieces of silver and says ;I was wounded in the house of my friends[Matthew 27-28] The first believers of YESHUA were Jews ,gentiles were crafted in the branch becaise of unbelief[Acts 1-9,,Romans 1-8,9-11].PAUL wrote by the SPIRIT of TRUTH ;when the fulness of the gentiles come in YAHVEY turns again to His people Israel. Now both Jews and gentiles are one body of the SON of GOD[Gen.12.1-3,Isaiah 65,Col 1.1-2.15,Rev.1-3].Christian hope is in YESHUA HaMaschiach,of whom Isaiah and Daniel spoke[IDeut.18.15,Isaiah 22-24,52-53,Daniel 9.24-27],ending in the return of the KING of Israel[Zech 12-14,Matthew 21-23,2 Thess.1-2,Rev.11-22]before all flesh would be destroyed[Matthew 24.22].
53. To Yonaton
well wisher ,   keep an open mind   (12.13.06)
I'm sorry to hear you feel that way, and I'm a bit surprised by your tone since most of your talkbacks are usually very even. There really is a lot of sincere Jewish and Israeli support in the Evangelical community. in fact you'll see more of it there than among the ordinary Christians you mention. There are even Christian groups operating within Israel who have a strict policy against any sort of evangelizing. They just want to show love and support because they believe that's what the Bible commands. Yup -- there are also some whackos and weirdos and crazy people in the evangelical community, but then again, name one religious group that doesn't have such people.
54. #51- Avi Dor. That's a good one ! Very funny !

55. Is the fact that the USA is an allie an asset or a liability
Will Paul ,   Brisbane Australia   (12.13.06)
For years I have thought that the USA problems in the middle east were caused because of it's Carte Blanche support of Israel. I believe ,still that this is where the problem started. However I now believe that because The US has lots of troops in Iraq. That Israel is being painted with the same brush. Does Israel have troops in Iraq? No. Does Israel have bases in Saudi Arabia ? No. This fact alone is the premise for Bin Ladin's attack on the US. The fact is, as I see it, Israel should pull away from the US. IT is like the tail wagging the dog.I know Israel needs the financial support it receives from the US, but it should limit that largess to private contributions. When the US pulls out of the fiasco that is Iraq. Israel could become the main focal point of Arab revenge. Israel needs to distance itself from the bankrupt policies of George Bush. Israel does not need to go down with the ship. George Herbert Walker Bush. Had the full backing of the UN in 91 he had Sadam on the ropes, what did he do ,he stop at the Tigris, and let Sadam off. 400 billion dollars later. Well you can see what I am getting at. George W. Bush stole the first election. He is incompetent, surrounds himself with yes men. Please Israel don't back this loser. He will be gone in two years and Israel will be holding the can.
56. Doesn't Know What He's Talking About
Jeff ,   Herzliya   (12.13.06)
New Mexico's in the Bible Belt? After that little gem, he lost me when he trotted out what I think he thought were bad stereotypes of preachers -- they wear "business suits and have fresh haircuts" -- egad! Run for the hills! I can just imagine an article that begins by talking about rabbis and their large, hooked noses and bags of gold. That would have the same credibility in the mind of any objective observer. He bases his conclusions on having spoken to "several" Christian believers, and then extrapolates these mystery trinitarian taliban's opinion to explain Bush's secret anti-Semitic agenda! Not quite ready for Prime Time, Yossi.
57. to #55 george w bush is the best president ever!
megi ,   lon   (12.13.06)
what you dont seem to understand is that israel and the usa are fighting for the same things, freedom and liberty. and thats why we both attacked by the enemies of freedom and liberty.
58. from a jew BLESS YOU ALL!

59. Stupid Guy, Paritzky
Alon ,   Germany   (12.13.06)
Ignoring the result of the midterm election and the complicate situation in Iraq, Parizky is stupid enough to attribute Bush's administration and the Christian population in the US the Iranian fundanentalism.
60. #49, Lyn, people like Yossi refuse to see reality
AK   (12.14.06)
No amout of reasoning will change that. Fortunately, Israel is full of wonderful talented, patriotic, spiritual people who more than make up for idiots like this writer.
