My daughters, both married and single are not allowed to use taxis: I would love this system to be available for their safety and security. Personally, being squashed between two fat smelly men (or when I was younger men who love to play touchey games) never did appeal to me. I could never travel at night either as I always worried. This is good sense and a great business opportunity!

There have been women's taxi collectives in the USA and in Europe for years. Of course the reason there is independence and safety, not religious fundamentalism.

This practice of having women-only taxis is nothing new; it's been going on in many parts of the world for quite a while and it's meant to protect women from potential predators (rapists, etc.). The Iranian motivation may be different but the principle is the same. Y\ou know, you don't HAVE to berate something JUST because it comes from a place like Iran. How stupid.

I heard that there are two taxi cabs with female drivers in Jerusalem. These taxies are extensively used by the local religious Jewish woman. The purpose is quite innocent: modesty.

When I call for a taxi and I pay for that taxi to take me from point A to point B, there had best not be any men in the back seat, already, be they fat, smelly or otherwise There had best be only the driver. Are we speaking "taxi" or "shuttle?" (Of course,, if my taxi were to show up with one with Gal Hirsch in the back seat, I'd reconsider sharing the ride. I might even throw in a few detours, too. hehehe)

I've allk for riding with women only. I'm uncomfortable being too close to men. I'm religious, not haredit, and that's the way I feel. If I sit on a bus and a man comes sit near me when there are other seats available on the bus, I get up and sit somewhere else. It's my personal preference. Regarding Iranian women riding alone, they're lucky for I doubt the Iranian people keep high hygiene standards and the men there are probably smelly. Ichs!

why do you feel uncomfortable sitting next to a man? Thousands of women sit next to men on trains, buses and planes. It's just a means of transport, no marriage proposal, no touching up, just a simple means of transport. You really need to get over yourself. You've been brainwashed, you poor woman.

I don't know why I feel uncomfortable when some strange man comes sit next to me, WHEN THERE ARE OTHER SEATS AVAILABLE (as mentioned in my previous mail). I just do. I feel disgusted with some men and do not want them near me. My husband is the only one I'll allow near me. I'm not brainwashed. It's a personal feeling.

So, I assume you had an arranged marriage? I'm so intrigued as to how you find sitting next to a man so repugnant. There are some men who just like to chat on buses and trains etc. It means nothing. It just means that we all have to share the same planet. That's all. You must not get so bent out of shape over such a small thing. It's not healthy for a start!
