there`ll be more room on the plane for us and less screaming kids
2. Can enybody tell me why the hell...
Uzi ,   SAD   (12.13.06)
... you allow religion and rabbis to rule over this? What if in europe, ALL Christian airlines would impose the same policy? "Hello, we are Christians, we are not flying on Sundays nor on Christian hollidays. You, Jews and Muslims, want to fly on these days? So sorry." What then?
3. Here's why
alan ,   jerusalem, Israel   (12.13.06)
Without committing myself to either side of the debate... Allow me to at least explain to you another point of view. Ultra Orthodox Jews do not see any distinction between everyday affairs and religion. Ideally, one is to live with understanding that everything in one's life is directed by G-d's will. They believe that Jews violating the Shabbat hurts the entire Jewish nation, and are expressing their right to protest that with a boycott. If non jews want to fly on Shabbat, by all means, just don't use Jewish people.
4. #3 here's why not
Michael ,   Haifa   (12.13.06)
The haredim are entitled to their beliefs....they are NOT however, entitled to impose their beliefs on others. I hope they boycott EL AL; I hope that EL AL then becomes a normal airline operating competitively with other airlines in the world; I will not miss the haredim on EL AL flights
5.  #4 -Here's why
David Lefkowitz ,   Baltimore USA   (12.13.06)
Sir, While you may enjoy flying EL AL without flying with chareidim, if the boycott goes in effect you may be flying with chareidim on another airline without EL AL!
6. #4 Here's why
Adi ,   Israel   (12.13.06)
Market forces. El Al cares about profit and nothing else. The Ultra Orthodox are an organised, effective mass action group. If the Rabbis decide to boycott El Al, all the haredim will follow. If 25% of El Al's customers suddenly started boycotting the company - it's likely that shareholders will demand new management. Try organising the Christians in Europe to do that.
7. Let them boycott and the hell with them
Jim   (12.13.06)
They disgust the shit out of me. They are an afront to the Jewish Religion which I adore I could care less if they boycott or not. I simply have no respect for them.
8. Here's why again
steve ,   London   (12.13.06)
Capitalist economies work on the principal of supply and demand. As long as EL AL needs the haredi business (which they do) the haredim will have a say, whatever their reasons or intensions are. All I can say is long live capitalism.
9. EL AL
Henry Weil ,   Jerusalem   (12.13.06)
We should boycott products that have the ''Badatz ''Kashrut, certification its a major source of revenue for their leaders. Of course EL AL should not have violated the Shabbath, but their reaction is one of sheer Hutzpah. They sould be more outraged by the world seeing pictures of so called Rabbis embracing Ahmenidjhad in Teheran. They certainly do nothing to unite Jews, Don't give in to their requests, enough to say we don't fly on shabbath
10. THEY WANT TO BOYCOTT,,,SO BOYCOTT !
WHY DOES IT BOTHER ,   YOU, WHAT THEY DO?   (12.13.06)
11. #9 pathetic
steve ,   London   (12.13.06)
Henry, I see brain power is not your strong point. What a stupid argument, do you really think that if Chilonim boycott badatz products it will mak e difference?? Also, what do a few crazy jews in Teheran have to do with the leaders of the Haredi community?? Those guys are trying to destroy Israel, while the Haredi leaders are preserving its sanctity. Besides do you think they flew ElAl to Teheran??
12. Blackmail
Shimon ,   Louisville, USA   (12.13.06)
All the Ultra/Orthodox have going for them is the vote their "Party" can swing, and the blackmail of their "Kashrut". If Israel hadn't adopted the British oppressor's political system, you wouldn't have to worry about them. Perhaps it's not too late to exclude religious/national group/ethnic parties? Maybe the time has come?

Marryl   (12.13.06)
I sat next to someone quite sour and unpleasant on a recent flight. He wasn't chareidi, so it was probably you.
14. The moment the boycott starts
Sagi ,   Israel   (12.13.06)
is when I buy a ticket on El Al, my National airline, which I love, even if the food is lousy. I have not flown for years with El Al for one reason only, Haredim. I have waited for this moment a long time and I will fly anywhere, just for the thrill of being on my National carrier without these people. A mehia.

i think it is about time people should mind their own business and the haradi specially to mind the tora business

It has been said that as long as the Jews keep Shabbos, the Shabbos will keep the Jews. Shabbos is our very special day - it affirms our people's belief and relationship with the Al-mighty. It can NEVER be compromised outside of the guidelines of Halacha. Anyone who thinks that flying El Al is safe because of its security measures should think again. As long as we answer to a "Higher Authority" we will in fact be safe. Let's think again before we compromise our Shabbos. Shabbos will sustain and watch over us as long and as only as we watch over our holy Shabbos! The Charedim have every right - in fact every OBLIGATION to boycot El Al if they violate Jewish law. Flying on Shabbos and serving non kosher meals doesn't enhance their standing in the eyes of the Charedim. At an estimated 30% of El Al's passenger base , this boycot by the Charedim will make a significant difference in El Al's profitability. I am proud to say that my children canceled their upcoming flight on El Al and rebooked on another airline until this matter is resolved. I know many others who did likewise. It does cost more money and there are cancellation fees, but when it comes to the kedusha of Shabbos, we are willing to sacrifice.
18. Advice for those who don't want to travel with Haredim
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.13.06)
Start your own airline, SECUL-AIR! All flights scheduled for Friday PM and Saturday. Pork, shrimp and cheeseburgers served on all flights. In flight movie: your choice of straight or gay porn. NO PRAYING ON BOARD! Flight attendants will confiscate all siddurim, tehillim and tefillas haderech. Wishing you a happy and satisfying Judaism-free flight.

Its amazing that those Shlepers who don’t even fly at all and who love so much Judaism Just love to hate the Observant Jew. Without Shomrey Shabbos And Shomrey Torah you would be extinct in 2 generations. Open your eyes and see, the Shomrey Shabbos are the power in numbers and it is the only growing community among the Jews. the chilonim are receding in numbers unless they become baaley teshuva. I personally just redeemed 2 tickets with Matmid and I am willing to loose it if the Rabbis say not to fly with el al but so will not fly with el al 15 family members to my Grandson’s Bar mitzvah in Jerusalem and once I fly with someone else its asta la vista el al forever.

Now there will be more empty seats & more space on the overcrowded flights!!

charles ,   petach tikva   (12.13.06)
As long as we answer to "higher .....we will be safe . Hunderds of thousands Jews were answering to this . Were they safe ? Not at all , they were all murdered . So do not come with this argument , galut man . Use Shabbat , not sthetl shabbos
22. Shame on you chelonim!
Ram ,   London   (12.13.06)
We have so many problems to deal with and all you do is focus on hating your fellow Jews! Jews have a faith and traditions. These have been followed for millenia. They haven't forced you to follow anything and have happily co-existed with you. They are the ones that are following the old ways whereas YOU have chosen abandon them. Shame on you for not showing tolerance if not respect!

You disapprove of my use of Shabbos, refer to me as "galut man" and yet you go by the name CHARLES? ...very interesting. Whether you call it Shabbos or as you would perfer Shabbat is of no consequence. Yes Charles, whether you see it or not, we do answer to a Higher Authority. And yes, thousands of Jews were killed al Kiddush Hashem because of this. I think you under estimate the power of the Charedim and where the future of our people lies. We have Gedolei Yisroel who are there to guide us ( no, I am not referring to Olmert and Peretz!). If Horav Elyashiv, Shlita, and Horav Kanievsky Shlita feel it necessary for us to use other airlines until this matter is resolved then we will do so "binearenu uvizkenenu" . And let us also remember that while we are proud to have Medinat Yisrael, it is our observance of Torah that has kept us going throughout history. This is the key to our survival.

so now you know why i was so miserable and unpleasant because your B.O. was very hard to handle on that flight

(12.13.06)
What hatred you have to your fellow Jews...what amazingly anti-Semitic comments you have made. Were they made by a non-Jew - you'd be up in arms. As for El Al - all's fair in love and war. They made an economic decision to fly on Shabbat - fine...we religious Jews - and I"m not Haredi - have the choice to answer back with our wallets. I won't fly on El Al while they fly on Shabbat. If they can survive without my money - fine. If they can't...good. As for you - I'd suggest you re-read your comment and realize the hatred you have inside you towards religious Jews is exactly what led us to be where we are - Post-"disengagement" - Post-Lebabnon war...and with the most pathetic government we've ever had. Criminals, apologists and idiots abound in the government.

they didnt tell you that you cant fly on shabbos they said if u want us on your airline dont lie to us and tell us you arent flying on shabbos when you are the real problem is that secular israelis have no clue what it means to be democratic their heads are in the walls so deep that they think that being democratic means being not religous in truth however being religous actuallly contributes to your democratic beliefs

We have so many problems...... We ! not you in your "safe" UK You are free of this religious coercision . You can do wathecer you want every day . So take it easy Chilonim [ not chelonim ] need to be tolerated and respected first of all by the charidi . The religion teach you : Veavta et reecha kamocha . You religious do not follow this , why should we seculars . If there is someone who has to be ashamed it's YOU , only YOU

Ram ,   London   (12.13.06)
You need help! You have made two assumptions: one- that I am charedi (not charidi) and two- that I am not an Israeli. My guess is that you are an Israeli that MANY Israelis would not be proud of, judging from the quality of your posting here. Also, when you take the trouble to correct others, for which I thank you, you should make sure YOU do not make mistakes. For the record, the way to spell "ve-ahavta le-reecha kamocha" is spelt this way. See if you can spot and correct the rest of your mistakes. I know for a fact that out there are thousands of good charedim doing their best o give the likes of you a purpose in life and asking for nothing in return. That deserves some respect.

Sagi ,   Israel   (12.13.06)
No hatred, just contempt. I express my Judaism in a diiferent way. For me all religion and all religious practices are voodoo. I could write you ten pages on our history and our heritage, probably more, and I have nothing against people wanting to practice religion as long as they do not impose their will on others, by violence or coercion. I could come up with hundreds of reasons why religion and its practices are negative and constitute a yoke and prevent freedom and its wealth of rewards. My arguments would be coherent, all you can come up with is "hatred and antisemitic". I neither hate Jews, of any description, nor am I antisemitic. Try something better, but not these two.

learn your history before you blaspheme the Living God. A great many of the korbanot hashoa and the the great majority of German and West e. Jews were secular. And just maybe it was the overwhelming secularity of the kedoshe eropa that sealed their tragic fate.
