31. Abolish Post Of Chief Rabbi
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.14.06)
It's a political position, not religious. Get the rabbi's out of politics, period.Power has gone to his head - we don't need a Jewish "Pope". For some reason, everything these rabbis do is in the final analysis against the long term interests of the majority of Jews. They do more to drive Jews away from their religion than anyone else.
32. A needed law
Ilan ,   Ariel   (12.14.06)
Israel needs an immigration law for non-Jews in addition to the Law of Return. This amendment should be part of that. Conversion for the purpose of "gain" is wrong. It is wrong religiously because the convert may not sincerely believe in the rules of Judaism and is only converting in order to gain citizenship. It is also wrong morally in that it promotes lying in order to gain residency in Israel.
33. RABBI AMARS DESTRUCTIVE PROPOSAL
Dr. Rick ,   USA   (12.14.06)
This is a dispicable action, an intention of perpetuation and further entrenchment of a branch of judaism hostile and indignant to the general and common streams of Judaism present and prevalent. This is as shamelessly immoral as it is a desperate tyranical grab for power that is racist at its core. A 180 degree reversal of foundational Zionist principles initiated by a corrupt and monopolistic ORTHODOX JUDAIC DICTATORSHIP engaged in SUPPRESSION and the CONTROL OF JUDAIC and NON-ORTHODOX IDEAS AND PRACTICES. Backed by pliable and opportunistic state officials, whose legal and ill-legal placements into law, numerous biased and unreasonable theocratic inclusions. THEN... enforced by the state. ORTHODOX and the ULTRAS have placed UNTOLD BURDENSOME MISERY and ABANDONMENT as well as CRUEL INDIFFERENCE and SOCIAL DISLOCATION UPON ISRAELIS AND WORLD JEWRY. ...RABBI AMARS PROPOSAL IS A KNIFE IN THE GUT OF JEWS EVERYWHERE !! As for Amar, and his kind, his callous disregard, his shameless bigotry, eugenic preferences, arrogance and disdain for other and differing JEWS have found an accepting home in the STATE itself WITH AID FROM the STATE ITSELF. The RABBIS have from since the begining abused their power once gaining it. ISRAEL MUST ONCE AND FOR ALL END THE CRIME AND INJUSTICE FROM THE OPPRESIVE ORTHODOX JUDAIC MONOPOLY ! This FOR THE JUSTICE and HUMANITY OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE !!! This also FOR the TRIUMPH of TRUTH !!! If state officials pass Amars proposal it will be seen as a MASS BETRAYAL of ISRAEL and WORLD JEWRY. That CORRUPTION has advanced TOO FAR... IT would be time to contemplate... LEAVING ISRAEL FOR A HAPPIER LIFE IN THE U.S. OR ELSEWHERE?...
34. So, King David was actually never supposed to be a King

35. Black Hebrew & Russians Argument Xenophobia
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (12.14.06)
Black Hebrews came here claiming to be a "Lost Tribe." Not a convert among them. There is no connection between the conversion law and Black Hebrews who came to Israel and no conversion law will have any effect on Black Hebrews. Two kinds of Russians came to Israel: born Jews and their relatives. Neither were converts. There is no connection between the conversion law and Russians who came to Israel and no conversion law will have any effect on Russians immigrating. Only fixing the immigration law, not the conversion law, can solve these problems. 36. THE RABBINICAL PLAN
RCA ,   USA   (12.14.06)
The long range Rabbinical Plan as it stands, at present, and considering past motivations and actions, appears to be deminishment in Israel of "REAL JEWS", the increase of Orthodox JEWS, strengthening Orthodox power and influence, takeing control of Israeli government, installing a Theocracy and eventually, with added success the control of all resources. But, that's how it seems to me !
37. this is not about torah!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.04.07)
the torah (and halakha) is extremely clear about not embarrassing converts, and every child with even a minimal jewish education should know that. the inclusion of all converts (including orthodox conversions) not only doesn't make it right, but is actually worse, since it just harms more people. rabbi amar is disgracing his office by even suggesting that converts should be singled out in any way, because that is precisely what is forbidden. which just goes to show that the manoeuvrings of the religious parties inside and outside of the knesset have everything to do with politics, and nothing to do with torah. the king cannot be kohen gadol, and the kohen gadol cannot be king.
38. Rabbi Amar
Yael ,   USA   (01.04.07)
I think Rabbi Amar ought to brush up on his Maimonides, who said, regarding converts: "ever since then whoever adopts Judaism and confesses the unity of the Divine Name, as it is prescribed in the Torah, is counted among the disciples of Abraham our Father, peace be unto him...There is no difference between you and us. For the Creator, may he be extolled, has indeed chosen you and seperated you from the nations and has given you the Torah. For the Torah has been given to us and to proselytes." Until Israel accepts all Jews, whatever their observance, I have no desire to make aliyah or exercise "right of return."
39. Response from an orthodox convert
Gila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.04.07)
B"H As someone who converted to Judaism halachically, I am as Jewish as Rabbi Amar or anyone else born to a Jewish mother. It is in direct contravention of the Torah to discriminate against converts, and this proposal is both outrageous and completely against the halacha that Rabbi Amar is supposed to uphold. Personally, I did not knowingly choose to be born with the Jewish neshama that Hashem gave me, but once it came alive I found I had no real choice except to convert and to live a Jewish life to be whole. In fact, according to my own personal experience, the whole concept of "Jew by choice" is actually a complete misnomer. Perhaps my Jewish ancestors (on my father's side) had something to do with it all as well. In fact, so strong was my Jewish neshama and my spiritual connection to Israel, that I found I simply could no longer live in my country of origin (where the standard of living and job opportunities are rather better than here) but only in Israel, and that was before I even began the official conversion process. Until I was able to come home as the Jew I was supposed to be and then finally to make aliyah, not only was the excruciating pain of waiting to reach the mikvah deeply draining emotionally, but I was forced to pay a huge financial price as well because I could not work here legally. Unless you have been through it yourself, please do not presume to judge the motivations of those who convert because frankly you have no conception of the immense pain and suffering that converts go through simply in order to become the Jews they are supposed to be. To suggest that we should then not have the rights of other Jews who have not had endure the humiliating, traumatic, hugely costly and lengthy process of conversion, simply to be able finally to come home to Israel and to make aliyah, is frankly adding huge insult to considerable injury. This wrongful and offensive proposal should be thrown out immediately.
40. HABEMUS PAPAM!
Boris ,   Sweden   (01.05.07)
We have a pope! At least that's how Rav Amar sees himself...
41. Right of Return for Converts
Norman ,   New York USA   (01.19.07)
Nothing could be more stupid or short-sighted. There people make a concious and concerted effort to become Jews. They were NOT Born into Judiasm. That makes THEM all the more special. HYow many of those born Jewish would make the same effort should they be given to forced to the opportunity....
42. Abraham wouldn't be Welcome in Amar's Israel
Dennis ,   USA   (01.19.07)
Its a good thing David, Sarah and Abraham aren't applying for Right of Return, Rabbi Amar wouldn't let them in.
43. Jews for Jesus (oxymoron)
MDP ,   HOUSTON, TX., USA   (01.20.07)
Belief in Jesus is the dividing line, my dear. If you believe in Jesus, you are no longer observing a monotheistic religion and serving only Hashem.
44. Black Hebrews are not halachic Jews but...
Arie Michal ,   Chicago, USA   (01.23.07)
Many black americans do have Jewish ancestry. Some matrilineally and some not. Some of Ashkenazi/European descent and some of African/Sefardic descent. Some recent some not. Remember, Judaism expanded throughout the middle-east and africa during the times of the patriarchs and the sages, the many exiles and foreign economic trade. As such, there are many africans today with Jewish ancestry (falasha, lemba, abayudaya, etc). Accordingly, some of the african brought to the americas in the slave trade were also descendents of Jews and/or Jews themselves. No one should assume all "black" peoples are not Jewish. Though as a rule, the group known as Black Hebrews truly are not. But the mythos that the only legitimate, born Jews have white skin is completely false. And Jews with dark skin should never automatically be assumed goyim and thus excluded and cast out of the community/covenant by people such as Rabbi Amar. Who, along with his hyper-political partners, blatently misrepresent and deny His Law and His people.
45. Re: Conversion to Judaism
Nancy L Dudwick ,   University Heights   (01.23.07)
I was appalled to learn that some members of the Orthodox community want to revoke the convert's "right of return" to Israel. Some of the converts are more observant than many of us who are born Jewish.
46. Getting priorities straight
(09.07.07)
I would suggest that Mr. Amar first help pass a bill that would deal with the problem of the abuses of the leaders (rabbis) that are born jewish and that have used their positions to take advantage of the people of Israel. Secondly, if the rabbinate doesn't want converts from orthodox, conservatives or reform out of the diaspora, then these groups should stop sending money that eventually aids the same people that are trying to keep your converts out of israel. It sounds to me like if it were left to the rabbinate there would only be one type of jew in Israel.
47. mitzwa to live in israel
yael ,   jerusalem   (05.07.08)
this law makes conversions a joke; a convert who does not feel the will or the duty to live in eretz israel, is not connected to his people and his land. Who excludes a jew from this claims that converts are no jews, hence, acts against the halacha
