1. The world has done nothing to prevent it
Mark ,   USA   (12.15.06)
I blame the entire world. They watch it happen and do nothing. Blood is on the leaders of the world. Lots of blood.

He is claiming we shouldnt be elating. Well, let me put it to you this way, before the civil war they were shoooting kassams anyway, theres no central control for all factions, so let them kill each other until the economy is zero. As for a jihad launch-bed, as long as we guard the external borders and live this as a contained explosion, nothing goes out or in, and merely an implotion within. This isnt Iraq, its a small territory.
3. Palestinians
Palestine ,   Hifa   (12.16.06)
Well, Abbas to blame. Hamas should kick hime out of power.
4. This article demonstrates a self centred world view
Uzi ,   Haifa   (12.16.06)
The Americans didn't create the internal conflicts in Iraq. They just removed the central control factor. They aren't in control so the Iraqis as well as their brothers and neighbours do what comes naturally. Israel didn't create the internal conflicts among Palestinean Arabs. Arafat's demise removed the central control factor and the Arabs, inside and outside the PA, also do what comes naturally. Of course they will try to escalate their attacks against Israelis and Jews abroad. In this context self reliance is the healthiest approach. The only effective way to deal with such attacks is direct Israeli action.
5. The exact opposite is true.
Ari   (12.16.06)
The article states, "The five Qassam rockets fired earlier this week at the Negev are only one expression of such Palestinian civil war boiling over to our territory". Really? So when the arabs were united and shooting qassamim at sderot before the gaza withdrawal and not firing at each other that was also an example of palestinian civil war boiling over from the territories? Puuuuhleeeze. Your argument is like swiss cheese, full of holes... Truth is Israel has a long history of supporting wars between its enemies, and for good reason. During the Iran Iraq war shamir's government sent arms to Iran to help them attack Iraq. The government's reasoning was that if Iraq is too preoccupied with Iran they would not have the time, energy, or resources to turn to war against Israel. What make you think that the same does not hold true for the arabs in gaza? Yes, the arabs in gaza are terrorists, not a standing army of an arab nation like Iraq, but the point still stands. Here's a point that helps clarifies the issue: do you think the hamas terrorists will have time to dig tunnels to kerem shalom and kidnap soldiers like shalit when they are busy fighting fatah terrorists for their very lives within gaza? Do you think hamas and fatah terrorists will have more or less time to engage in terror activity against Israel while they are busy protecting their own backside from being killed by their enemies within gaza? The answers are obvious. In the long run, the single best strategic development that can happen for Israel is for the palestinians to wage a low level military conflict against themselves, internally, which consumes all their time, energy, and resources. A civil war of this type would divert a substantial amount of resources away from terrorism directed at Israel, and it would diminish the prospects of establishing an arab state in Judea and Samaria. Both these things would help Israel, especially in light of the fact that hamas is deepening its strategic ties with Iran and becoming a terrorist client state of Iran.
6. Ron Ben Yishais head still in the clouds
Yisraeli   (12.16.06)
you said "Those will take advantage of the central government's collapse and loss of control to act against Israel" Hello hasnt anyone told you fatah factions led by Abbas are still attacking Israel at every opportunity? You make out as if fatah is a peace organisation, ermm what do you think has been going on for the last 6 years? a boston tea party? You said "A civil war would also thwart any attempt to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian crisis through negotiations" Tell me are you thick or living in the Bahamas or simply stupid? WHAT NEGOTIATIONS? Negotiate with whom? Havent you learned anything yet? They are all out destroy us just via different methods, I guess you just prefer the Trojan Horse method instead of Hamas's honesty of plainly stating their desire. Grow up already or spare us your 'enlightened' bullshit.
7. Let them destroy each other, and we will destroy the victor
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (12.16.06)
The problem in Iraq is not the civil war, it's that there are civilians in the midst of it and the U.S. is unwilling to put it down. In Gaza we already have the first problem solved: There are no civiilians left. All he civilians in Gaza have long since fled to Egypt, Israel, or the West bank, and what's left ae two terrorist armies and their human shileds. Now all we have to do is wait for one side or the other to triumph and then respond to the first atrtack against us by the winning side by expelling the remaining Palestinians from Gaza and annexing it. The only problem is that the Palestinians are maneging to fight us t the same time a they fight each other so we may have to destroy bot terrorist factions in the territories before we can expell the civilians (with proper compensation of course) and annex the territories.
8. I believe Arab world only understands death..its inevitable.
David ,   Boston, USA   (12.16.06)
Let them kill each other. Its regretable, but its their choice. The best thing to do it protect Israel and wait and see who wins. The only way to make peace is to have decisive victors. The Arabs lost to Israel but have not acknowledged it over the decades. Thats part of the problem. They can never win. They have never accepted the fact that Jews are native and were there first. The fact that the Temple Mount is Jewish and MUCH MUCH older than any Muslim claims to the land. The Arabs must be defeated soundly by each other and by Israel for peace to happen. This isnt only true in the Arab world but throughout history. Once there is an overwhelming victory people can make life better. It worked in Germany, Japan, and throughout history. Let them have their civil war. It will make life better for all.

redmike ,   tel aviv & london   (12.16.06)
"Such war, inevitably, would also boil over to us". Hard to see how it would make much difference to us since they try to attack us all the time anyway and I'd personally much prefer that they spend their time killing each other. 'A civil war would also thwart any attempt to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian crisis through negotiations' and "Yet this has to be done without strengthening the Hamas government. Funds to the Gaza Strip, and plenty of them, must be transferred through Abbas". Abbas was worse than usesless before Hamas came to power and also condoned terror attacks on Israel. 12. Palestinian Civil War Not Our Business
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.16.06)
We should do absolutely nothing to interfere with the civil war. It really makes no diffeence which side wins - both Hamas & Fatah are our enemy. We just have to fight the winner. Anyway, everything you do with these people backfires - nothing ever works, so why get involved?
13. before their civil war there was intifada/oslo terrorism
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.16.06)
this guy sounds like that if the palestinians had money, international support and presteige, and israeli engagement in helping them, everything would be better for israel. well, back in the 90's they had all of that and israel had terrorism on a scale unseen before. in this decade the palestinians have none of that and, guess what? terrorism. palestinains are determined to kill and exist in anarchy until they get EVERYTHING they feel they are entitled to. israel cannot concede much of that, ever. so let them kill themselves if they insist on killing. dealing with the "spillover" of their civil war is not much different (and probably even better) than plain old terrorism. it's hard to kill israelis when palestinians are busy fighting each other.

15. How To Stop The Civil War...
Dan Friedman ,   NYC USA   (12.16.06)
How To Stop The Civil War... Israel calls a general mobilization, marches the IDF into Gaza, Judea, Samaria, declares they are now permanently part of Israel and disarms the entire Arab population in those areas.
16. Time for Arab world to grow up
Dr Ahmed Pasha ,   Morocco   (12.16.06)
It is not the Israeli demoracy but the totalitarian Arab world and our Arab leaders' extremism which is the reason for the constant turmoil in the Middle East. It is time for my Arab brothers and sisters to grow up and take responsibility for our societies extremism and failures instead of constantly blaming Israel, the US and the whole world for our own mess.

18. Gaza civil war
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.17.06)
I don't know if this is right but from the pictures it looks as if fatah are the chiloni arabs arabs and hamas are the dati arabs. Is this right?
19. Do as Mao did in China
Micha   (12.17.06)
During WWII, Mao was able to oust the Kuomintang because the KMT was embroiled in war with Japan. Mao took advantage of the KMT being busy and took over all of China. So, too, while the arab fight amongst themselves Israel can once and for all drive them out of the land of Israel. This is the one chance in history. It must be done now.

21. Palestinian civil war
Shmuel ,   Chicago, U,S.A.   (12.17.06)
Dr. Pasha's view is a breath of fresh air. I have always maintained that the Palestinians (and Arabs) should "grow up" and stop using Israel's existence and behavior as a pretext .
22. Idiot. You know what a war is, right?
zvi ,   USA   (12.17.06)
What's going on now in Gaza is rampant lawlessness and violence but it is not a civil war between two military organizations -- yet. If the PA descends into civil war, it will be obvious; the paramilitary groups will stop taking the occasional pot-shots at each other and start trying to destroy each other. I don't think it is going to happen. They can continue for years in this on-again-off-again state of lawlessness and semi-chaos. It won't be helpful for anyone, but frankly the Palestinian groups don't care about helping anyone, least of all their own people.
23. Forget A "Negotiated Settlement". GIVE US VICTORY
Chaim ,   NYC   (12.19.06)
Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. That exactly defines our so-called peace process, which exists mainly in the imagination of leftists. Who needs the recognition of terrorist thugs? Israel doesn't need it. Suppose the Nazis had recognized America's right to exist. Would that have changed anything? The "Palestinian" nation is a mortal enemy. Bottom line: it's us or them. And every "Palestinian" leader knows this. Every Israeli should also. Every "negotiated settlement" has only and can only lead to disaster. No more Oslos. GIVE US VICTORY!
