1. Not a bad man just totally unsuited for the job !
redmike ,   tel aviv & london   (12.17.06)
"My main concern every moment of the war in Lebanon was that no Israeli soldiers would die'. This words spoken my him him are enough to show his total unsuitability for the post of Chief of Staff. He got promoted to a job that he is totally psychologically incapable of doing !
2. chalutz
sas ,   israel   (12.17.06)
let's stop making up excuses to keep him in his position. he MUST go Home. and if he does not resign on his own he should be asked to leave. he is/was a total failure in the last war and we do not need him in the system.
3. He MUST be removed at once
Itzik ,   Haifa   (12.17.06)
His only achievement was that he was able to sell his stocks before other generals. This means that he knew what was going on. So, perhaps, he is not as stupid as Peretz?
4. It was investigated so well because we LOST
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (12.17.06)
The second Lebanon war was the first war in Israel's history that Israel lost, therefore it was well-investigated. There was almost no needat all to invstigate the first war in Lebanon or the Yom Kippur war, because bothe wars endid in crushing Israeli victories, and whatever mistakes were made were up to the IDF to fix. This tim we were soundly defeated, therefore so many investigations were needed, investigations that are not a sucess but an extention of the failiure of the war.

we ended the first lebanon war with a crushing victory? A crushing victory creates the conditions for a peace agreement.
6. to #4 You Friar!
Ilan ,   Israel   (12.18.06)
Soundly defeated? Do you always believe everything Nasrallah says. Nasser claimed vistory in 1973. I suppose you also believe Ahmadinejad that the Holocaust didn't happen, and Hamas' claim that our withdrawal from Gaza is a sign that Palestinian armed resistance will destroy Israel. Get a grip!
7. Unresolved questions
dave s. ,   san fransicko, ca   (12.18.06)
Apart from questions as to how the war was fought and why the north was forced to endure showers of missiles for far too long, there are questions about Israel's leaders, who, over the years, chose to look the other way while Hezbollah grew into a threat, and other questions as to whether the Israeli public and media are over-obsessed about infantry casualties. Have these been openly discussed?
8. #5 and #6
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (12.18.06)
At the time the Yom Kippur war was ended under international pressure, both the Syrian and Egyptian main armies were surrounded and Israeli ditachments were a few miles from Cairo and Damascus. In fact the Arabs' position was so bad that the Soviet Union was considering intervining militarily (which it neither could nor would do). Had Cairo and Damascus been occupied we could have forced Assad and Sadat to give us peace agreements or simply annexed their capitals and driven them and their people into exile. As for the first Lebanon war it was hard fought and there were initial screw-ups, but in the end Arafat's army was completely destroyed and beirut reached and Arafat himself was sent into exile in Tunisia with twenty body-guards. We could have let Arafat rot in North Africa and demanded an unconditional surrender from Lebanon. Oh, and # 6 I don't believe Ahmadinijaind's claim but I do believe Hamas's. Israel got tired of having to fight Hamas in Gaza and didn't have the guts to destroy it and so it opted to surrender and retreat, and if things continue the way they are right now Hamas will achieve its goal of destroying Israel.
