1. Roladin's 'lower cal' sufganiot
donut eater ,   israel   (12.15.06)
Apparently, Roladin (bakery chain) is making this year's sufganiot smaller so that they will contain fewer calories, apparently as a nod to the increasingly health conscious public. I found that so hilarious. Hello? It's still a ball of dough, fried in oil and stuffed with jam. How low-cal can it possibly get? If you're going to eat a donut, you really should have gotten over the calorie issue in advance and accepted that you're eating something (deliciously) bad for you. That having been said, even in their smaller version, Roladin sufganiot are TERRIFIC Also recommended for Tel-Avivians. 'Etzel Yudit' bakery in Gan Ha-Ir. FIVE STAR YUMMY

I love those things, but I can never eat one without remembering the time that one of my aunts, who was an Israeli of Yemenite extraction, and a fantastic cook, came to my house one Hanukkah and brought the dough mixture for the sufganiot, which she was going to fry up once she got here. The problem is that it was freezing outside that day and she, along with my uncle, another aunt and uncle, and my parents were in the car, but it got so cold that my father had to turn up the heat. Unfortunately, the heat caused the dough to start rising out of the bowl and my poor aunt had to keep punching it down throughout the hour-long trip. Everybody was practically in tears seeing her with this thing, especially when my mother started telling us how she had visions of sitting in the car and suddenly becoming enveloped by this dough, which, according to her, had begun to bear a rather frightening resemblance to an airbag.

Todah! I needed a laugh. That is hilarious! Brings back memories of a comedy in which dish washing liquid was put in an electric dishwasher and the bubbles went _everywhere_.

Oh, no. I did something very similar, except I put laundry detergent in the dishwasher because I had misconstrued something I read about using dishwasher soap in the washing machine. I found out the hard way that it definitely doesn't work the other way around. I don't know about you, but these incidents made me feel as if I had been trapped in an episode of "I Love Lucy."
8. Jelly doughnuts.

Doesn't jelly donuts remind you of Kernnedy's Ich bein a Berliner? Can you make Suganiyot with Sweeta? or Nutra Sweet?
