1. talking peace with Syria will to not lead nowhere.
Ely Greenhut ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.16.06)
2. LIKE ATT ARABS SYRIA CAN NOT BE TRUSTED.
Jew from Israel   (12.16.06)
3. Israel-Syria
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (12.16.06)
Would somebody, please, explain to me what, exactly, is being negotiated here? Are they trying to "negotiate" Israel out of what they lost through war, meaning the Golan? If the Syrians manage that, the prophets and fallen Israeli soldiers will turn over in their graves, and Hashem, I suspect, will not be pleased, either.
4. Living Jews Leads to war
Marcel ,   Florida   (12.16.06)
The bottom line with Syria and iran is that when the Jews are all dead this will lead to peace. Why are most Israeli's so stupid and blind not to grasp this mindset of their vulture neighbors ?
5. only the left wing and olmert trust the terrorists
Arie ,   Afula   (12.16.06)
trusting assad is like the US trusting bin laden
6. History lesson
Dr Ahmed Pasha ,   Morocco   (12.16.06)
Has left-wing Israeli politicians already forgotten how the situation up to June 1967 when the Golan Heights was controlled by Syria? Did Israel live in peace when the Syrians were shelling on Israeli civilians from the Golan for no other reason than naked terrorism? I admire your leader Menachem Begin who understood that negotiations with Arab dictators can only be done from a position of strength. That is the reason why Ariel Sharon was feared in the Middle East whereas most of my Arab brothers laugh when they hear the name Ehud Olmert.
7. Why do the Syrians want this?
Neal ,   NJ,USA   (12.16.06)
1) Because they care about humanity? 2) Because they want the heights back? 3) Because their PR sucks and they want to appear on a peace track when in fact, the syrians are plotting to help Iran expand their evil empire? Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and the Bashar is evil.
8. presidental elections
mordechai ,   jerusalem, israel   (12.16.06)
If we'd have presidental elections every year, we'd have Shimon Peres speaking more reasonably all the time.
9. OUR precondition: Israel withdraws from Golan first
Syrian   (12.16.06)
and then we can talk peace!
10. There should be no preconditions
Richard ,   New York, USA   (12.16.06)
if Israel is serious about peace. The US was talking peace with North Vietnam and the Vietcong even while heavy fighting was going on. In Israel, there is very little fighting going on, so what's the problem? The problem is that Israel does not want peace with non-Jews in this world.
11. To #9-a non starter
Arie ,   Afula   (12.16.06)
The Golan is now and will remain Israeli territory. From 1948 to 1967 you used it as a launching ground for rockets and mortar fire against our CIVILIANS. We will now retain the high ground! You want peace, start by ending the suport for every terrorist group, including hezbullah hamass and al qaeda in iraq!
12. #10 is an anti-semite
Neal ,   NJ,USA   (12.16.06)
Notice Richard (abdul) said all Jews don't want peace with anyone. Abdul ignores his constituencies (blood thirsty islamists) track record of triabl war, honor killing your sister, etc....
13. Israel-Syria negotiation
Syed Sakhawat Husain ,   London, U.K.   (12.16.06)
Would Syria or any other Arab nation call for a negotiation with Israel if the latter were weaker than them? No way. Israel must explore a peacr settlement with utmost sincerity because it has already seen the alternative --- may peace win!
14. Peres is maybe wrong about Syria
Dr D ,   Jerusalem   (12.16.06)
If some serious talk will start the terror organizations will run away from Syria. The Syrian government is more interested then us in getting rid of the cancer and they know that Iran will not last long.
15. #13 I agree Bush is ordering conditions
Mark ,   USA   (12.16.06)
The policy of Israel has been to talk to any Arab country without any pre-conditions until Bush came in office in 2001. Those words are coming from Bush who is against peace!!
16. #10 Bush is running Israel
Mark ,   USA   (12.16.06)
Even if Israel wants no pre-conditions, Bush has the final word. He rejected the Iraq Study Group. He wants more troops in Iraq even though 2941 have died. Peres is a puppet who follows orders.
17. Once in a while I agree with Shimone
Moshe   (12.16.06)
18. #10 nonsese.
Jew from Israel   (12.16.06)
Israel made peace with Egypt. There is fighting going in right now & israel is not even retaliating. Hamas is still firing rockets into Israel from Gaza. The sad truth is they all want Israel wiped of the map so Israel has no real honest Arab to talk to for peace.
19. Peace ?!
dd   (12.16.06)
My first precondition is for Syria to stop being anti-Semitic. Then, stop being anti-Israeli. Next, stop terrorizing Lebanon through Hezbolla and Israel through your proxy, Hamas. Finally, simply forget about the Golan Heights. When it belonged to Syria, you only used it as a base to bomb Israel. Now, that you lost it because you tempered with it, you don't like it. You know what happens to any property used for criminal activity - the police in any civilized country impounds / confiscates it !!!
20. Don't give up the Golan heights
Richard ,   Leipzig, Germany   (12.16.06)
It would be a great mistake if Israel gives back the Heights in syrian hands.
21. Israel wants it with preconditions ! not understandable
(12.16.06)
maybe because I'am from the pre 1973 era, or maybe Israel doesn't want it at all.
22. #12 agree with you
(12.16.06)
he(#10) should have said; "Israel does not want peace with non-Israeli Jews in this world." certainly, he is even double anti-semite.
23. Peres is the Jimmy Carter of Israel
Jay ,   Israel   (12.16.06)
24. #18 all want Israel wiped of the map
(12.16.06)
because not all of them show compassion for the complex semitic psychology of the Israelis, isn't this a strong proof !
25. to # 9 in your wet dreams........
Jay ,   u.k.   (12.16.06)
26. to # 24 what "compassion"???
Saun   (12.17.06)
they don't even have this word in their dictionary, what are you talking about?
27. to #23 , he used to be, but now
Noa   (12.17.06)
he is changing, i wonder what happened to him recently.......
28. Negotiate!
Joe ,   Brooklyn, NY   (12.17.06)
Whether it's for PR or not, I think this is an historic opportunity for Israel. Syria is a very important sponsor for the military wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Maybe one could even say that they could not survive without Syrian support. If Israel and Syria were at peace, perhaps that would be an important catalyst for the end of terror against Israel, and a permanent peace.
29. The "Peace Process": Code Words for Israel's ANNIHILATION
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (12.17.06)
30. its called 'hoodwink'
Yisraeli   (12.17.06)
They talk of peace overtures as they build up and prepare for war. Thats one of the main rules when going to war, deceive your enemy. Now with full Iranian backing and another front all along Lebanon with Hizbollah they feel confident in going to war with Israel. If they were serious about peace they would have dismantled hizbollah but we all know the opposite to be true. Maybe they learned from Tsen Zu about the art of war and they simply want us to lower our guard with their rhetoric. Dont be fooled this is Syria were talking about. Hence Peres for the first time was right in what he said. They talk peace, that means war is on theyre agenda. Quite simple really.
