1. UN Rights council consider Qassams as Peace-Maker! Its Shame
KMR ,   Middle East   (12.18.06)
2. Abbas worried about investment in Gaza
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, CA USA   (12.18.06)
So Abbas is worried about investment in Gaza while, from the second Sharon started Disengagement, the Israeli government and settlers were busy stealing more from the West Bank and putting up more Wall in the West Bank. So Abbas's true nature comes out: he wants Palestine to be 3+ million people crammed into the Gaza Strip Prison, where Israel can control the borders just the way it does right now after it allows foreigners to invest in a few hotels in The Prison.
3. Abbas.
Dr.Joji Cherian ,   Aluva India.   (12.18.06)
Proped up by Israel and America Abbas is propitiatng them. Disgusting
4. One good thing here
SAM ,   USA   (12.18.06)
There is one good thing about this site. Arabs who come here see the real deals gping on in the region. at least other perspectives. The same for people like me. Abbas, like Sadat, will end up being a hero and a martyr to his people. I really hope he has the ability to see this thing through, like Sadat. He is right when he wants to grow economically. Its the only way to get out of poverty and despair and the "Palistinians" could do it. Hamas, is the vehicle that will stop that thinking and continue in the politically racist ideal of "pushing the Jews into the sea", which is not working, but draining the people of its resources. It wouldnt hurt to get back some of the funds Arafat stole, too.
5. 2 - facts get in your way
give me a break ,   US   (12.18.06)
Too bad the post-Sharon government of the 'evil settlers' you so decry was actually elected on a platform of realignment (less WB territory) Too bad west bank settlers have been getting eviction notices and Attorney General Mazuz is on Peretz' case regarding faster implementation Too bad 93 percent of the 'wall' is actually on the green line and thus is not encroaching on WB territory. Too bad the 'wall' is actually a wall in less than 10 percent of its length. Too bad it can and has been moved off WB territory is a number of spots (also post-disengagement), after Palestinians appealed to the high court about the route. It's too bad for all of these facts. Without them, you may have been to substantiate your propagandized claim of Israeli evil in order to excuse the fact that the Palestinians in Gaza built NO infrastructure post-disengagement and, in fact, destroyed billions of dollars worth of agricultural infrastructure (hothouses) that could have put them in a better situation, merely bc it had previously belonged to jews. It's quite sad that you feel that the situation in WB is a good enough excuse for Pals in Gaza to have shot themselves in the foot financially. I think this avoidance of responsibility for the harder, day-to-day civic issues augurs pretty poorly for the situation of any state in their possession, if the Palestinians happen to think like you.
6. The Timing is Suspect, No?
Confused Reader   (12.18.06)
Abbas has had two years to stop the Qassems with his strong and capable 40,000 person force. Prior to that, he had the ability to try to stop Hamas as per the Road Map. Now that a true civil war is about to be declared and he needs support from the West to overcome Hamas and its support from Iran and other Arab sources, he gives us this little cookie. Perhaps Mr. Lebovic should ask himself why this would be the time to lend Mr. Abbas a hand?
7. Abbas worried not getting corruption from corporations
John ,   NZ   (12.18.06)
But hey, which leader of a country isn't corrupted. Ask Mr. Bush, hehe! Abbas's surely going the right direction but whether he can control his Fatah is totally another Q.
8. Abbas is not a leader but a spineless terrorist
redmike ,   tel aviv & london   (12.18.06)
there is not much good that can be said about Abbas. He did not try to stop terror attacks when he was able to. He is too weak to be called a leader. He was a terrorist and still seeks to destroy Israel but by using different methods to those of the extremists. And the good .. Well he's against Hamas but it’s possible to have more respect for Hamas than for him. At least they say what they believe and what they want.
9. USA News Services
Jim O'Donnell ,   Eldon, Missouri(USA)   (12.18.06)
Finally, somebody in the news reporting business is making note of the lack of reporting we experience here in the USA. Our news media is so agenda driven with their hate Bush obsession, they nolonger know how to report.
10. #8 and others:
Michael Steiner   (12.18.06)
So, if Abas does not condemn terror, he's a spineless terrorist who wants Israel's destruction. We cannot talk with him. If he does condemn terror, he's a spiness terrorist who is disingenuous and really wants to destroy Israel. Do you see the problem wit the above?
11. pals
kippa   (12.18.06)
the Arabs only want to kill Jews, how anybody in their right mind want to negotiate with them is beyond words. they said so , it is better to kill JEWS than to kill each other ! However I disagree
12. How can u show they r bad
1.5 Billion Muslims   (12.18.06)
if do not show their bad side and hide it any good thing they say . Reality Check , World
13. From the mouth of Abbas
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.18.06)
Who gives a shit what comes out of his mouth? Rockets make him "look bad" bla bla bla bla. It's not as though he has ever lifted a finger to do anything to stop the rockets. Words are worthless.
14. California Dreaming...
nina ,   usa   (12.29.06)
It is depressing and demoralizing to read what some very ill-informed ideologues write--especially from the comfort of their California beach homes. So Sharon is to blame for the situation in Gaza? A half-decent parent wouldn't let a three year old get away with the nonsense you want to allow the Palestinians to continue to peddle. It's never their responsibility. Ever. I love the liberal, patronizing, colonial mentality that your preach. You folks who see yourselves as champions of the downtrodden are happy to see people struggle and suffer because you will never demand that they own their own behavior. It's always someone else. They have schools and teachers who preach hate, a lousy infrastructure, stolen investment money, a culture of violence, an invisible court system, and on and on because of everyone else. Billions invested by outsiders, for no gain. Money stolen. From themselves. But still they bear no responsibility. Millions were secured to buy greenhouses in Gaza for the Palestinians, from the Israelis forced to leave. What did the Palestinians do with them? Tear them apart. Why produce when you can destroy? Why create when you can wallow in hate and dreams of revenge? You must feel like a real hero, Mr. Cohen, standing up for the poor "oppressed" Palestinians from your California hideaway. You are a coward and a hypocrite. People like you will keep the Palestinians down, because you demand nothing good of them. You preach down to them, you treat them like incapable, incompetent children.
