62. El Al's flight
DAvid ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.19.06)
Just tell those haredim that the flight was returning from Iran. Bringing thier friends back from the Holocaust Conference with Ahmadinejad...
63. Everything works On Shabat ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.19.06)
Should we boycott the Electric Co., Bezeq, the Gas Co., the Water co., the Malls, the Taxi Co's, etc.??? And what airlines will they fly? They all fly on Shabat. So, obviously they are picking on El Al & the reason is not purely religious. This is another political campaign just like the anti-gay campaign that has nothing to do with religion but with showing political muscle & intimidating a target. Add this to the antics of Rabbi Amar who wants to ban converts from immigrating - these people act like Hamas or other muslim extremists but we're not ignorant brainwashed Morons so it's going to blow up in their face.
64. #62 Best to shut up when you're ignorant
AJew ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
Oh, just realized, you're from LA, that explains it. In that case, just stay there, ok? Pleeese.
65. To No. 56 - I agree
Sivan ,   Tel-Aviv   (12.19.06)
My friend was once requested to move to another seat because a Haradi refused to sit near to her. She also wasn't too keen to have him seated near her so she changed seats. But it seemed so unfair that she was the one who had to move. Her boyfriend stood up and announced to the whole flight that they (the Haradim) should have their own section in the cabin. That would be a good solution. Also those huge old fashioned bashed up boxes they use for their hats take up so much room in the luggage compartment. As if they care...In the meantime I've realised the best day to fly El-Al is on a Friday.
66. Lease El AL on shabbath
abdullah manquds ,   morroco   (12.19.06)
Why can't el al and tyhe entire airport business be leased to non-jews on shabath, with non-jewish pilots and airport staff. Better still el al shopuld be sold to non-jews, while keeping the brand name. Wouldn't this solve the problem? Non-jews and non-jewish owned companies can work on shabbat, since it is for their own benefit. In fact this model can solve many of the shabbath violation probelsm in israel. Let non-jewish owned business alone operate on shabbat.
67. EL AL MUST cater for the secularr majority
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.19.06)
If the religious need at "Glatt" Kosher airline, then let one of the Haredi billionaires create one. EL AL is a private airline and must behave as such. I returned from London a few days ago on EL LY316. Great flight, nice food and good service. Even better, only a handful of Ultra Orthodox passengers! What was annoying was that there was a religious girl sitting in the window seat and only once my daughter and I had started to have our dinner, she decided that she had to wash her hands. So, we had to pack everything up, get out into the aisle, and wait for her to come back balancing the food trays. By this time our food was cold. That is the Haredi way I suppose and the hell with everyone else! What was a disgrace is that EL AL cannot be contacted on a Shabbat or for that matter even after Shabbat! This is where EL AL fails miserably! EL AL seems to have a policy that there are no emergencies on Shabbat. I would like to ask the management of EL AL how they would feel if someone in their family was dying and a son or daughter could not get back to Israel in time to say good-bye? In Israel the Lord giveth and the Haredim take everything!
68. Overseas...what do you really care
Shalom ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
All these overseas brightsparks... what do you care anyway what goes on with an Israeli airline...sitting in your goyishe countries - if you have so much to say & care so much for what goes on here come & live here... the Haredim are the fastest growing population here, and unlike most of you, there grandkids will almost certainly be Jewish, and have Jewish knowledge...not just sport and ISraeli flag on their bedroom wall and donate $1000 of feelgood money once a year. Know where you came from, what brought you here, and where you are going.
69. Haredim = our only guarantors
Bravo ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
The Haredim are the only one's who will guarantee the future of our people... they have children, and learn Torah... the rest of the Jews... little or no knowledge, 2 children, of whom 1.6 wont marry Jewish...shout what you want, but it seems the shouters are the ones who will be the losers in the future since they have no strong Jewish identity to carry them forward.
70. Response to Nos. 68 and 69
Sivan ,   Tel-Aviv   (12.19.06)
And we suppose they will serve in the Military like the rest of us ......
71. Just another sport
Sport ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
Do the Haredim play for the NBA or the NHL... sitting here 5000 miles away from Israel, Israel is just another sports team to support... nothing really at heart, or I would be serious and go and live there.
72. #67 what hurt more?
reply ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
where you angry because you were inconvenienced or because you knew she was doing the correct thing and you werent... the truth hurts! Ow.
73. #67 Ooh!
Flight 316 ,   TA   (12.19.06)
Bit strange, your science fiction story a)rolls are m'zonot ( so you dont know what that is.Who cares!) rolls so no washing of hands needed. b) the badatz meals along with vegetarian, etc( a shrimp eater 'screamed' here a few days ago about 'them' getting their meals earlier LOL) are served ages before the regular meals, so no way would she have 'waited'. The ultra religious women are THE quietest, most refined passengers on the plane. Try again Jew hater.
74. Response to No. 70
Gedalyah frankel ,   Jerusalem   (12.19.06)
Was it the IAF, or the IDF that protected us from 39 scuds that only managed to kill one person in 1991?
75. # 74 wonderful observation
Bush ,   usa   (12.19.06)
When Israel wins a war like the 6 day war with open miracles proven and testified by so many, guys like # 70 say it must be the IDF at their best and not G-d. But if G-d forbid a disaster occurs on Jews it must be there is no G-d. So G-d brings the gulf war of 39 scuds to prove to Israelis that it aint the IDF it is all Me. But the Israelis are still haughty and will not acknowledge Hashem for saving their butts. Just from the fact that the IDF or IAF recently kept on missing their targets and killing innocent women and children proves that the IDF really have no power whatsoever if G-d does not direct their missiles.
76. I'm not a big fan of the Haridim......
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (12.20.06)
at all. I think they behave like bullies when they have a modicum of influence or power. Their actions in Jerusalem over Gay Israelis' rights to assemble was simply disgusting. But - in this case - I think they are right and should boycott if conscience requires - mostly because it is a peaceful means of protest. But in my view El Al should accomodate all orthodox Jews in this situation. If a secular person, me for instance, feels he has to fly on Shabbat - there are plenty of other airlines to choose from. There is only one that is Shomer Shabbat - El Al - and it seems to me a small price for our national airline to stay that way.
77. El Al
david barker ,   Bridgwater Somerset   (12.20.06)
OK but what was Eli doing taking photographs, he was as guilty as anybodyelse
78. Egged & Shabat
Y ,   B   (12.20.06)
Got sad news for you... Egged DOES run on Shabat in a number of locations, for example Haifa & Dimona. Your tax money is subsidising Shabat desecration every Shabat.
79. Terry
charles ,   Petach tikva   (12.21.06)
Terry , do'nt you know that all the other airlines are NOT Israeli , have generally no Jewish personnel on board ? So they may fly .
80. Will Haredi's pay deficit to keep ELAL in business ? #
Scooby ,   Ramat Gan   (12.21.06)
81. THE WORLD MUST GO ON !
RCA ,   USA   (12.26.06)
Those not wishing to fly on Shabbos can remain on the ground untill Shabbos has passed. Easily done! Those who do not share the beliefs of Haredim should not be penalized or denied free choice. Haredim live in their own little world of their own choice. They should not deny G-D given choice to others. They have a right to their opinons but deserve no controling influence with EL AL, especially since they do not share the same aviation responsibilities with yhe flying public. THE REST OF THE WORLD MUST GO ON !!
