Part of his religious belief says that his "messiah" will return only when chaos runs rampant. Nuclear war to him is a sure-fire way to usher in the final worldwide rule by his religion. There is no cost too great for him to not try to do this.

Hey we can get the UN to do something to help alleviate this situation! I think they are the right organization to get things done. Remember when Sadam was a huge threat and the culmination of the UN actions led to a very corrupt oil for food scam which made Sadam rich? It’s because of this Ahmadinejad acknowledges UN resolutions meaningless and pays no attention to them. The UN will come to the rescue! Iran is ****ed if they try anything against Israel. I wish our country had the stomach for such actions. Our world and country has changed. We do not have the will to do what is nessessary to win this war or to stop a crazy regime. We could end the war in Irag in 48 hours if we really had the balls to do what needed to be done: Destroy Bagdad and kill hundreds of thousands of people. Women and children would be unfairly be included. The death and destruction would bring these crazies to their knees. Again, we just do not have the stomach for such actions. You have to remember that Bush & Company have labeled Iran and Korea as the Axis of Evil, and has already invaded Iraq. Israel has 400 nuclear bombs. The lesson Bush has taught any reasonable country is that if they don't develop a deterrant, theyr'e at risk for another Iraq. The US is the only country that used the bomb; there's good reason for the world to fear the US, especially with Bush et al in the White House. These developments certainly are frightening, but there's no reason to join the paranoia. It was exactly that kind of fear that Bush exploited to scare the country into invading Iraq--supposedly to end nuclear weapons. These crises have been self-created by Washington. We cannot allow the war criminals we never elected to destroy innocent lives, like our brave soldiers and the citizens of Iraq, for another lie. Thanks for your thoughts, but I wanted to say we're being tricked again. There are far better ways to end the spread of nuclear weapons--however, the US has refused to reduce its stockpile. What's the rest of the planet to do?
