31. PM Canada
X-Slave ,   Houston U.S.A.   (12.22.06)
It is ironic to hear a Euro-American talk about genocide. But in light of history, I guess the PM of Canada should know about genocide, look at how the Native Americans and enslaved Africans (and their progeny) were treated by the White people in the Americas.
32. #21 Is Aaron Rabinovitch's real name Aabdul Ramesesovitch
Alan ,   SA   (12.22.06)
33. "...many Canadians “expressed discomfort""
Nathan ,   Montreal, Canada   (12.22.06)
The columnist who feels that Canadians are uncomfortable with Harper's strong stand is talking about her own feelings of discomfort, not those of Canadians. Many Canadians are happy and proud to have a Prime Minister whose policies are driven by questions of "right and wrong" rather than political expediency. The media are uncomfortable with a Prime Minister who sets his own agenda, rather than following theirs.
34. 28 and 31
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (12.22.06)
28 - so your saying muslim and arab canadians support terrorist organizations and despise democracy, that is good to know, but I don't think you should speak for everyone, I have many muslim friends that are pro israel, and totally against hamas and hizbullah. You shouldn't apply a connection between Hizbullah and Hamas and all muslims and arabs, btw, it's the only the liberals that listen to your pathetic threats regarding votes, we actually now have a pm, that doesn't give a shit about appeasing immigrants, like it here or leave, he does what is the right thing to do. 31 - I think you are mistaking our history with the US's. We didn't have slaves, and our natives are somewhat respected and given money and land. The US army hunted and killed the indians. Reread your history books
35. blunt honesty
Cameron ,   USA   (12.22.06)
Well done, Mr. Harper, you spoke out loud what everyone( especially the Arabs) has realized for some time now. As an earlier posting noted, Mr. Harper merely 'called a spade, a spade.
36. Ryan
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (12.22.06)
I don't think you understand, and it's the same non-sensical argument over and over again, so I will be very simple. I am a supporter of justice. The war on Lebanon, regardless of who started it, was not justice. Lebanon did not deserve it. We Lebanese are sick of foreign countries conducting their wars on our land. And that, my friend, goes to the US, Iran, Syria, and, of course, the mother of all, Israel. How can I support a PM who supported a government that just told Israel to go ahead and keep bombing us. Im sorry, I can't. So please, before you call me pr-hizb or pro-hamas, or pro-terror, go take a look at what's being done in the name of this war against terror. And as someone very rightly said, not all Canadians are Jews or conservatives, I have so many Canadian friends who are sick and tired of Harper's policy.

patrick ,   Canada   (12.22.06)
You are asking me what side would I be on in case of an armed conflict between Canada and France. My answer is clear: Canada all the way if I consider the legitimacy of an armed conflict against a nation (France in that matter) that does not follow the criteria of a democracy fighting evil like Israel does vs Hizbullah or Hamas. Furthermore, you say that you don't believe in dual citizenships implying that those who have dual citizenship do not commit themselves to Canada. This is absolutely untrue my friend. I have a friend who is Canadian and English (dual citizenship) and he does not want to renounce his british citizenship either. Same for the numerous Canadian/israeli citizens of canada. I just don't get your point. Maybe your point is relevant as far as the Lebanon evacuation last summer, and the issue that subsequently came up, is concerned.
38. To # 33 and all the others: Harper do not represent Canada
David G.   (12.22.06)
As a Canadian citizen, I can confirm that such opinions are far from representing the general opinion of the population, especially in the province of Quebec. Harper speaks for himself, that's all. He is leading a minority government that will soon be defeated, and opinion survey clearly show that the majority of Canadians disapprove of his policy in Afghanistan or is unilateral support for Israel during the war last summer. Harper is just a random guy who knows nothing about politics, and models his policies after his hero George W. Bush only because he appears to be strong and powerful. Look, he even bought a fleet of SUVs with bullet proof tainted windows to travel, only because that makes him look important. He thinks he is some kind of president, while in fact he is the PM in a minority government. And, as many other conservatives, for a reason that is still beyond me, he seems to have a fascination for weapons and war.

Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (12.22.06)
Well said, I stand for justice as well, but where is the justice in the rocket barrage against Israeli citizens, why is there no concern in your message for them. Did those soldiers deserve to be kidnapped, does Isreal deserve the constant attacks since it's establishment, if one is to promote justice one needs to find evil deeds from both sides of the conflict and condemn them both equally. I do not think that Hizbullah overthrowing the lebanese government will lead to justice or Lebanon having control of there country, it will lead them back to Syrian / Iranian control. And there country because of geography will be used once again to attack Israel. The only victims will be the innocent lebanese, and Israeli citizens.
40. David G.
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (12.22.06)
And a PM that runs his own business under another country flag to save money on taxes is the type of leader you want. Maybe you should look at a poll outside of Quebec. His Afghan policy is great, and don't forget the liberals are the ones that started that. His arctic sovereignty is my favourite, where he stands up to Bush, as well as softwood, which you should know cause it majorly affects Quebec, he got the issue solved, while the lib's let it hang for years and years, And considering a potential terrorist stated that he was going to storm parliament and cut off his head, I think some protection is justified. He won't be defeated, not unless quebec gets seperated into more constituencies, majority of Canadians I know, are sick of liberal lies, spineless acts, and fear mongering. I live in Alberta, but have also lived in Ontario, Nunavut, NWT, and Sask. Contrary to your belief which is pretty looney left, there are Canadians outside of Quebec. ps. Would you seperate already.
41. Patrick, Canada
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (12.22.06)
Words are words, and just that. If a legitimate armed conflict between Canada and France arised, I would have objections and doubts of your loyalty, and would not fight side by side with you. I have relinquished my british citizenship that my mother got for me. I was born here, and only require Canadian citizenship, as our passports get me into any country that I want to go too and treated with respect once there. Your allegiance should be pledged to one or the other, or else conflicts have the possibility to arise. Relinquishing your citizenship is not denouncing your heritage or disrespecting your family history, it is cementing your loyalty to your present country and reaffirming your choice of living here. And I agree with you regarding France's foreign policy. And I support Israel.
42. Harper is racist anti-semite arab side
palestine hawk ,   alkods palestine   (12.22.06)
you should read his statments about arab and candian of lebanese origin is full of hate nobody will vote for him except those who are closet racist
43. Becos, Harper isn't French, that makes all the difference
john ,   nz   (12.22.06)
44. RE: # 40
David G.   (12.22.06)
"Would you separate already?" I would love to. But, for still unclear reasons, it seems like people - especially from Alberta - won't let us. Then I would not have to pay for ammunition so Canadian soldiers can kill civilians and talibans alike in a random country because Harper sleeps well at night thinking he got the power to submit a foreign nation. Harper would like so much for the Canada to be like the US because he would find himself in the best position possible. But what for the rest of us? I mean, honestly, who truly believes that the US is a nice country to live in and work with right now? Canada used to be (and still is) much better, and I don't want to loose that because of a power whore.
45. Hamas
Yaacov ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.22.06)
Such ridiculous comments made by our PM. HAMAS is no more genocidal than any other militant organization or military organization (i.e IDF). Hamas has openly recognized a state of Israel that remains within its pre-1967 borders. HAMAS ceased its terrorist attacks well before they were elected. In free and fair elections they were voted into office in a completely democratic way. This commentary by PM Harper is nothing more than cheap ignorant grandstanding and Zionist ass-kissing.
46. Jewish support for Israel
yaacov ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.22.06)
Not all of us blindly support the state of Israel's policies. Israel's policy towards the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza is like genocide on the slow burn. It has become a very sad time for our people who are brainwashed into thinking that everything Israel does is right.
47. Ryan you are cold and just like Harper
palestine hawk ,   alkods palestine   (12.23.06)
get out of the closet and declare your self as awhite power monger and stop hiding yourself behind you support for israel that s what most anti-semite do divide and conquer but its not working any more we fight zionsim we love our cousins the jews
48. Khalid, YOU UNEDUCATED MORON!!!!!
Ginette Golden ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.23.06)
Chirac is the president of France! Stephen Harper has been so far the BEST premier of Canada, the gutsiest one that we had in a long time...seeing terrorist groups for what they are: genocidal. Unlike Jean Chrétien (not Chirac!) or Paul Martin, the two predecessors of Mr. Harper, who were both bad news for the State of Israel. You can take that to the bank!
49. to Yaakov - easy for you to talk
Dina ,   usa   (12.23.06)
when you live so many 1000's of miles away, isn't it? you self hating jew!!!

52. #46
jason ,   usa   (12.23.06)
i could understand some of the Israeli policies but... when you blame Israel for the PA problems and actions.. then your plain wrong The PA has already called on a geoicde on israel Is it that much you can't explain why Israel won't give up land for Poeple that calls to kill them? I already know the issue here Israelis government want peace PA wants land and this is just in brief written i havnt gone on all the details(which is.. alot)
53. #19
jason ,   usa   (12.23.06)
yep Abbas thinks the same way stop dreaming and look at reality or you will be crushed (what he said when he wanted early election polls)
54. # 24 observer
Ginette Golden ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.23.06)
Yeah BUT in those days, Canada did not have a leader called Stephen Harper!!! He is getting my vote the next time around, not necessarily because of internal politics which sometimes suck but because he supports Israel. Besides, he is the least corrupted of all the bunch that preceeded him. Way to go Harper!
55. Ibrahim El-Awal -- We had co-existence..Arafat ruined it
eve ,   Vancouver   (12.23.06)
for many years we traded together lived together and then along came arafat .... He ruined it for the Palistinians ..not Israel ..arafat
56. He may lose some votes, he'll gain lots more
Maria T ,   Canada   (12.23.06)
57. # 32 Alan
Ginette Golden ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.23.06)
No silly, Aaron Rabinovitch's real name is Mustapha Habdulah Zahwari
58. #46..wrong by definition
DR ,   Florida, USA   (12.23.06)
The Palestinian population grows all the time. By definition, this cannot be genocide. Isarel has to do what it needs to survive. I guess for you that meant moving to Canada.
