let this be a lesson, in how to achieve peace. If you want to fight a war, fight militaints. Do it away from Civilians. Otherwise the other side will use this as a weapon.
2. So...
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (12.28.06)
Ethiopia just killed roughly 2000 in there attack against the IOC. How many christians are killed in Sudan? Why are these significantly lower numbers making the news, when a near genocide is not mentioned. I say pick up the pace IDF, if your going to be criticized for defending your nation and people, by killing roughly a 20th of what else is happening you might as well put up equal numbers.
3. #1 is a genius,NOT!
Cynic ,   USA   (12.28.06)
These murderers purposely operate within civilian areas because they know people like you will blame Israel for defending itself.
4. Insane
Avraham ,   NYC   (12.28.06)
How come an Israeli Jewish organization is focusing its attention on the losses among the enemy's ranks as opposed to their own people?

7. Ryan: B'etselem works in Israel, not in Sudan
Khalid   (12.28.06)
Yes, what is happening in Sudan is genocide, but what does B'etselem have to do with that? They are obliged to report on Israel and the Occupied Territories, not Africa. According to your logic the victims of Qassam rockets (8 deaths in last 5 years) should not even be given one single sentence in newspapers because of the deaths in Sudan.
8. B'Tselem publishes statistics
Righteous Zionist ,   Israel   (12.28.06)
but nowhere considers the fact that a war is raging and that there are often unplanned civilian casualties in such situations. The respective agendas of the two sides are totally ignored. The Arabs plan civilian casualties; the Israelis try to avoid harming non-combatants. The Arabs are firing kassam rockets into Israeli towns and villages: the Israelis are trying to stop the attacks and to protect themselves. The Arabs consciously wish to commit genocide against the Jews in the Middle East and apparently elsewhere too; the Israelis just want peace, value democracy, and would give the Arabs their full human rights if they renounced terror and subversion. And you have to live in Israel to see it.

Well obviously you can't read. I mention the same thing you just said. Basically watch yourself or your enemies will use that as a weapon against you... duh!

enzo ,   london,uk   (12.28.06)
660 Palestinians in this war. 12.000 in the Iraq war. 2000 in Afghanistan. 2000 in Somalia. Whenever there is a war there are casualties! What's new?

Lynne   (12.28.06)
so what's your point? does the fact that "Whenever there is a war there are casualties! " justify those deaths?? and in that case even Israelis should not complain about the Qassams fired onto them... and no one should call for the return of the kidnapped soldiers.. after all.. it's war!! or else what's the use of wars.. the more killed the better!! weird logic!!
14. #1 .. 713..
Lynne   (12.28.06)
I agree with you but where's the moral part in not targeting civilians? should Israel not target civilians only out of fear that this will be used against it?? where is the humane side of this that civilians EVRYWHERE should not be targetted..

"How come an Israeli Jewish organization is focusing its attention on the losses among the enemy's ranks as opposed to their own people?" It seems you're not familiar with B'tselem's work. They report ALL deaths, it just so happens that so many more civillians die in the Occupied Territories. Go to Bt'selems website, and you'll see that all every dead Israeli as a result of a Qassam rocket is reported, all 8 of them in the past 5 years are documented. As well as the 660 Palestinians dead this year.

Steve ,   USA   (12.28.06)
B"H This organization makes a lot of claims and the journalist fails to contact the IDF for comment. That is rediculous. If the claims are true, they remain unsubstantiated. And if they are false, it is just a blatent lie that is being propogated. This is very sloppy journalism YNET. I would expect at least if this organization would state that a lady had been killed that you might try to contact one of the realatives for substantiation or perhaps the IDF. That being said, I think that it is very sad that the war remains unresolved. Hamas is still lobbing missles at Sderot which has been very much substantiated with eye-witnesses. I am not sure also how this organization has been permitted in areas where Jews have been officially banned even to substantiate the claims. I think these claims need a lot of justification that is missing. Perhaps a start would be a link to the full report in English instead of just the perhaps incomplete recap of the full report.
18. # 1, just doesn't understand
CO   (12.28.06)
that terrorists chose the battlefeild for their war against Israel, and they prefer hidind behind "Human Sheilds".
19. Combatants? Non-combatants?
Yitzhak ,   San Jose USA   (12.28.06)
It is always good for democracy's to examine their policies, and have these policies scrutinized by such groups as B'tselem. Having said that, I don't see in the news article anything about the breakdown of those killed: How many were combatants? How many were non compbatants? How many children (under 18 y.o.s.) were combatants? How many died because terrorists used them as human shields? Instead, B'tselem just presented an aggragate number, which in the final analysis, useless information. I will check out the B'tselem report for my self and not rely entirely on news reports.

That is a question, that is tough to answer.. Should Isreal not care about civilian deaths?? Should they completly care about civilian deaths?? The thing is, if they had a special ops team, that could go in and to tageted killings, they woulnd't have that problem. Instead they use bombs and rockets to minimize IDF's casualties. The enemy is just using the media as a weapon, to expose the flaw of the Isreal stratigy.

shalit, technically, participated in fighting and is most likely still alive. 206 non-participants has been killed by fighting army for the sake of shalit life.
23. So maybe the Palestenian civilians
jonathan   (12.28.06)
will understand that they should seek peace, and not cooperate with the Hamas and other terrorists. A note to Btzelem: After Gaza has been evacuate, and we get missiles from there up until this very moment, there is no relevance to this counting.
24. To 16,
jonathan   (12.28.06)
No, that's not enough said. Just the fact that there is 1 Israel or 1 Palestinian dead is horrible. However, the Israellies don't blow themselves off, just for getting Palestinians dead or crippled. That's why it is so horrible.
25. Attacks
BRL ,   USA   (12.28.06)
How many attacks were initiated by the Palastines and how many by Israel. No attacks no casualties. Plain ans simple.

I do understand, but you need to understand Isreal is strong enough to pick a battle field of thier choosing... If you don't you are giving your enemies another weapon.. the Media!
