1. Retired, and not a moment too soon
(12.29.06)
Now if only Olmert,Peretz,Peres, and Livni would follow his lead!
2. I am no Zionist
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (12.29.06)
Calling for Barak's Cronies as well as the entire Olmert Government to follow him into retirement is part of security
3. Human Rights
Tracy W   (12.29.06)
I wish I could ask Mr Aharon Barak: If you could travel back in time and find it in your power to grant or deny democratic rights to the Nazi Party, what would you do, knowing that they used those democratic rights to entrench themselves in power and obliterate everybody else's human rights. There's something called self-preservation, which should supercede the rights of a group to cause havoc on another. What Israel is doing in the compensation case and also by upholding the civil rights of its Arab minority to live in Israel, is one of many examples of acting against the self-preservation of Jewish Israel.
4. A True Zionist and Israeli Hero
Richard ,   New Jersey, USA   (12.29.06)
I am so sick of right-wing Likudniks (or worse) pretending that they are the only true Zionists, its sickening. Mr. Barak, though well reasoned and MORAL judgments, served Israel and the Zionist enterprise admirably. The day the Israeli national conscience completely disregards human rights is the day I stop being a Zionist. (Luckily, this has not happened yet.) Israel needs people of Mr. Barak's strong moral fibre to make The Zionist Dream worth a damn.
5. Boruch HaShem
Daniel ,   New York   (12.29.06)
Thank God there are still some people like Barak around. Pretty soon they'll all be Liebermans and Gaydamaks, and that will be the end of Israel.
6. This Low Life So-called Judge
YB   (12.29.06)
Its funny that he mentioned G-d, for all these years he has been doing everything to minimize G-ds existing. He is and was a low life peace-nic who has put his own ego and intrest before the intrest and security of all the Israelis, so the world of liberal judges can look up to him. And he is trying to convince us that he cares about HUMAN RIGHTS, How about the right to live in peace. How about the right to protect your self and family and country. People like him are CRIMINALS with black robes and they should be incarsenated with their robes in a 8x8 cell and keep their wickedness to themselves.
7. BARAK JEOPARDIZED MANY TIMES THE ISRALI LIVES !
Albert ,   Israel   (12.29.06)
8. A Non-Jewish Zionist
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (12.29.06)
Mr. Barak is a Zionist - without G-d and Torah. He is a human rightist activist - without G-d and Torah. He never speaks of Halacha, the Talmud, Jewish ethics, the rabbis and our sages, our Patriarchs, our deep connection with our sacred literature, our love of G-d and His importance. In short, he never speaks of Judaism. All Mr. Barak has done was cleverly undermine what makes Israel Jewish and remove G-dliness and holiness from our legal vocabulary. He is utmost responsible for emphasizing the "rights of Man" at the expense of completely abandoning the G-d-centric message of Judaism. Efforts to return Eretz Yisroel to our dream of a Torah State with its inherent G-d-given way of life, ethics and morality were set back enormously by this man. Zionist he may be - but not a "Jewish" one.
9. #6, low-life is right
Antonio ,   Haifa   (12.29.06)
Barak is the face of anti-Zionism. It is dirtbags like him that are killing Israel.
10. Richard Nixon: I Am Not A Crook
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (12.29.06)
The check is in the mail, yadda-yadda.
11. Sounds like he comes from planet bizarro
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.29.06)
That is the place in superman comics where everything is the opposite. He is no Zionist,he cares nothing about the security of the state. To even allow the palestinians to use our court is a travesty of justice and stupidity of the first order. It is our court for our use and not for foreigners, especially the enemy. Do Israelis use the palis' court system,if there is one? The high court should have been outlawed along time ago. When they think they know more about the needs of the security of the country, they erred. Or as the late Michael Quille, pres. of the T.W.U.,N.Y. once said,"may all the judges in their black robes drop dead."Amen!
12. Liar
Choni Davidowitz   (12.29.06)
How can you call yourself a Zionist Jew if not one of your Judgements or rulings were based on Torah Law. As a matter of fact most of your rulings were anti- Torah, especially those so called humanitarian rulings for the Arab enemy. May your leaving be a start of the collapse of the anti- Jewish High court.
13. Zionist? Hardly!
Yisraeli   (12.29.06)
Anyone referring to living in the Land of Israel as "occupation" then he clearly is NOT a Zionist by any definition. He aided and abetted our enemies to a great extant then hides behind the banner of human rights. He contributed nothing of value to Israel but on the contrary weakened it. He dispossesed the Knesset of its legislative form by changing legislation. No democracy in the world does the courts have the gall to do so. Instead of 'interpreting' the law he made them to suit his liberal agenda even if it endangered the state. His High Court is the only high court of any democracy that elects itself and is not answerable to anyone but theyre own collective egos. May the day come soon when Israel is led by true Jewish values and leaders, then his portrait can be dumped into the garbage of history alongside many others of the same ilk. Goodbye E Barak it was a day not to soon when Israel saw the back of you.
14. The hell with the political aspect. Barak failed!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.29.06)
In my books Former Chief Justice Barak has led the Israeli Judicial System to ruination. By blocking minimum sentences legislation he has allowed killers, rapists and other criminals to get away with murder! He his undoubtedly the worst Chief Justice we have ever had!
15. post-Zionist...The True Zionism...TOO MUCH PLAY ON WORDS
Atilla Karagözoğlu ,   Istanbul   (12.29.06)
we love to talk about that subject, Dont we ? we always speak about WHAT WE LESS KNOW. DONT WE ?
16. WALKS LIKE ONE, TALKS LIKE ONE...
Ben Avraham ,   Tel Aviv   (12.29.06)
...acts like one. He's a post-Zionist all right. These smug leftist types think they have all the answers. Thank God he is gone. He did enough damage.
17. Aharon Barak: I'm not a post-Zionist: CORRECT
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (12.29.06)
you are post- human
18. Pompous and arrogant,? Yes. A Zionist? Hardly.
Yacov ,   Ashkelon   (12.29.06)
The lack of checks and balances in the Israeli government lets arrogant and pompous hacks such as Barak and Olmert make horrendous decisions that cause long-term, irreparable damage to Israel. The Jews of Israel will pay over and over and over again for the abuse of their power by Barak and Olmert.
19. "The most important contribution that I made...."
Bennie ,   Jerusalem   (12.29.06)
The most important contribution Barak made to Israeli law was his retirement.
20. Pathetic Postings
David ,   San Francisco   (12.29.06)
Here's a guy who has given his whole life to fighting for Israel, Zionism and the Jewish people and you idiot Right-wing posters insult him. You should be ashamed, who sit and preach about "damage to the Jewish People" and "Torah" that you don't know the first thing about. One thing is right, though - you dumb nasty people are what Zionism has become. Experiment failed. Richard in NJ, give it up. You'll live to see Lieberman Prime Minister of Israel - a country not fit to bear the name. Human rights, learning from our experience as Jews, learning ethics from the Torah - these are all things Barak upheld and you hate-filled self-righteous bigots don't give a damn about.
21. Does Israeli court rule Jewish ?
observer   (12.29.06)
Maimonides ruled that it is a Jewish court -- or a court appointed by Jewish authority --that enforces obedience and passes judgment on Gentiles, as well as promulgating legislation by court order for that purpose. Maimonides further decreed that any non-Jewish nation "not subject to our jurisdiction" (tahaht yadeinu) will be the target of Jewish holy war. (Cf. Hilkhot Melakhim 8:9-10; 10:11. Also cf. Gerald J. Blidstein, "Holy War in Maimonidean Law," in Perspectives on Maimonides [Oxford, England: Oxford Univ. Press, 1991].
22. to # 20
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.29.06)
You did not have to write anything.Your address is enough. So sit there in frisco and agree with this enemy of Israel. barak would destroy Israel's security just to please the goyim.I wonder what he did in the army.I bet he commanded a l.w.d.(large wooden desk).
23. #22 "Jason White" changing our names to "please the goyim?"
David ,   San Francisco   (12.30.06)
For someone like you, who has no intelligence, you're not interested in the content of what anyone has to say, only where their address is. How stupid can you get? The only thing as dumb would be if I were to say "Your name is enough. Sit there with a goyish name like 'Jason White' and tell the rest of us whose families weren't so cowardly as to change our names to please the goyim how to behave." Pretty stupid huh? Right - Barak is an enemy of Israel, Sharon is an enemy of Israel. All the people who gave their whole lives to build Israel are really "enemies of Israel." While you, "Jason White" who can't even be bothered to change his name back to a Jewish name (unlike Barak and Sharon) are the true know-it-all, the only real friend of Israel. Who's the next enemy of Israel - God? No buddy, it's moronic little pishers like you sniping from your hypocritical mental shtetl that are the real enemy: The enemy within.
24. Barak
mordechai ,   jerusalem, israel   (12.30.06)
Aharon Barak, It doesn't bother me that you are from the far left even though I am right of center. It doesn't even bother me that you despise religous jews even though I consider myself observant. It doesn't even bother me that you despise those of us who live over the Green Line. What hurts me is that under your tenure , you destroyed all norms of behavior by judges in court. It has become the norm for judges to insult citizens coming to our courts seeking justice. It has become the norm for judges to ignore the law due to their owen personal prejiduces. Mr Barak, the courts are supposed to be a fundation stone of a democratic state. You have done damage to a basic foundation of our state. I hope that history never forgives you
25. #22: Commander of Something Really Small
David ,   San Francisco   (12.31.06)
Only people who feel inadequate for being in command of really small things feel the need to put down others who don't have macho army jobs. I bet you command a R.S.P. (I'm sure you can figure that one out).
