1. What IS Anti-Semitism?
MAN ,   EU   (12.29.06)
I thought Anti-Semitism was about racism. A people pointed out as inferior to other peoples? A people opressed on a daily basis because they look a certain way, or have a certain language or have a certain religion...?
2. sad
Fares ,   Cleveland   (12.29.06)
i call it a sad conclusion . president carter ....and befor him jim Baker ..are trying to be objective and give you a non political answer ..a black and white answer . they are trying sincerely to help you and be your critic in a time your leaders are leading you into another 40 years of no direction (like when you got lost in Saini ).. Tell your Rabbibest to stay away from politics .
3. Carter: WORST PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY!
Sheikh yer Bu'Tay   (12.29.06)
Here are the facts about Jimmy Carter in the White House. Inflation rose to 18%! Old people on fixed incomes had to buy dog food just to eat! The Prime lending rate rose to 23%! Businesses could not borrow. Thousands of businesses filed bankrupcy. Gold rose to about $850 per once in 1979 dollars! (What would that be in todays dollars?!!) An act of war was commited on soverign US soil. American citizens were taken hostage and held for over a year. CARTER DID NOTHING!! Only after Americans elected a prez. who had the balls to attack did Iran release our people. Carter demanded congress pass the Wind Fall Profits Tax. This tax destroyed US domestic oil production for over twenty years. Thousands of businesses whent bankrupt!! Carter made a deal with the Soviet Union. The Soviets were to buy all the grain US farms could produce! US farmers were incouraged to go into debt to boost crop production. After all the crops were planted, CARTER CANCELLED THE DEAL!!! Thousands of farms whent bankrupt! Thanks to Jimmy Carter's moronic administration policies, MILLIONS OF AMERICANS BECAME BANKRUPT!! Please do not let this man rewrite the history of his administration. It was a complete trainwreck!! Jimmy Carter: WORST PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY!!!

5. Carter! ,why are you scared of a debate with Dershowitz?
Alan ,   SA   (12.29.06)
6. CAN CARTER BE BLAMED???
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.29.06)
Carter's writing and the ensuing reactions only point to the fact that Israel, a minority population on the earth, is a very important place and its people a very special people. The fact that he wrote the most anti-Israel book in recent years only points out that we are being reminded of our identity. The intermarried are being reminded. Those who hide their identity are being reminded of their past. Those who are in denial of being the Children of Israel are put in a position of remembering who they were and how important they are now. Carter shows that no one can escape who he/she is. The apparent dishonesty teaches all the would-be and should-be Children of Israel where they should be and what the modern nation of Rome really thinks. The pathology has existed throughout history. Nothing has changed. Nothing will change until the Children of Israel awaken to the fact that the sons of Esau and the sons of Ishmael want us wiped off the face of the earth. Carter is not an anti-semite. Arabs, the descendants of Ishmael, are semites. What he really means is "anti-the Children of Israel". it's time for everyone to awaken and return to their past, to their tradition, and to the absolute truth of that Torah given on Mount Sinai.
7. Fares, you're a naive tool.

8. Can Carter be Blamed? - Yes!
RZ ,   USA   (12.29.06)
Because he is a former American president who would destroy America as well as Israel, if he could. Thankfully, few take him seriously, as his extremism and self-hate was exposed long ago. Maybe he is not an anti-semite. But he is most certainly, a Jew-hater.
9. To #1
Jack ,   San Diego   (12.29.06)
Ask the Europeans, particularly the Germans and the Poles "what is Anti-Semitism?" Being in the EU, you are particularly well placed to tell the world a thing or two about anti-semitism rather than to ask a definition of it!
11. Carter's book
Stefan ,   Tel Aviv   (12.29.06)
Rabbi Brackman, For once I totally agree with you. The ex-president Carter was a failure as a president and he is a failure in what he has done since. This book has really brought him to a level that even the sleeziest politicians in Europe have not reached. Unfortunately, President Carter is an anti-Semite.
12. Carter
Nicholas ,   Beit Jala   (12.29.06)
The Rabbi says he holds back from accusing people of anti-semitism, but just last week he accused secular Jews of doing the work of the Nazis. As for his ten points of disagreement with Carter, even he admits that some are partially true. The only one that cannot be easily demonstrated to be at least partially true is the speculation (qua speculation) about Hamas's role in future peace negotiations, and so we might assume that the Rabbi is in broad agreement with Carter. So what is this article about, other than abusive hot-air?
13. carter
sas ,   israel   (12.29.06)
we all know who the man is what he believes in. why waste time on israeli TV with an interview??????
14. Carter has always been an enemy of the Jews
Lev ,   Italy   (12.29.06)
The "peace" (more like a cold war) he brokered between Begin and Sadat was a disaster for Israel. It gave back to Egypt the Sinai peninsula - territory which Israel had legitimately won in a war of self-defense. If Israel had kept the Sinai, not only would it be able to contain Gaza, but it would be large enough to absorb a nuclear strike by Iran and still survive. Israel without the Sinai as it stands right now (smaller than New Jersey) could be annihilated by a single hydrogen bomb. And the Iranians know this. Thus, Pres. Carter - along with an acquiescent Begin - may in the future be considered the one ultimately responsible for the destruction of Israel.
15. Carter left a terrible legacy
Chaim ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.29.06)
In addition to all the negative things done by Carter - see #3 Carter:Worst President in History - Carter is responsible for the rise of Radical Islam. He could have nipped it in the bud in 1979, but his inaction indicated to the Islamists that the West can be defeated and we are reaping those fruits today. Regarding Israel and Egypt, He brokered the worst possible deal for Israel. Israel gave up everything and received nothing in return. Egypt remains one of the greatest threats to Israel. Israel lost its strategic depth with the Sinai, the oil, and the space for future growth. But it was forced to keep Gaza, and is still suffering for it. Carter and Sadat ganged up on Begin and caused Israel tremendous damage for decades to come. Now we know why the deal was so bad for Israel. Because the mediator, who is supposed to be neutral, was a secret anti Semite.
16. The Rabbi from Mars
Hebron   (12.29.06)
Obviously the writer has no idea what is going on in the occupied territory, did not read Israel’s history according to the new historians, does not know what the Human rights organizations (Btselem, Human rights Watch, and Amnesty International amongst others) and the international community have been saying for YEARS. Really, are you surprised rabbi? Carter is simply repeating what has become a common knowledge in the world. Israel is practicing Apartheid. You do not believe me, fine. Do you believe Sharon? Gershom Gorenberg concluded that it is "no accident" that Sharon's plan for the West Bank "bears a striking resemblance to the 'grand apartheid' promoted by the old South African regime." Sharon himself reportedly stated that "the Bantustan model was the most appropriate solution to the conflict." [See this Gershom Gorenberg, "Road Map to Grand Apartheid? Ariel Sharon's South African inspiration," American Prospect (3 July 2003). Also, Akiva Eldar, "Sharon's Bantustans Are Far from Copenhagen's Hope," Haaretz (13 May 2003).] Rabi, you should stay up to date with your readings, so that you don’t make the mistake of writing articles like this. Good luck, if it’s not too late. Hebron
17. terrible mis-use of ati-semitism

terrible mis-use of ati-semitism
18. Anti-Semitism???
Mikesailor ,   Miami, USA   (12.29.06)
The curious fact is that the Rabbi does not refute Carter's thesis about how the Palestinians are treated, nor show where his facts are mistaken. Instead he brings out the old canard about anti-semitism in response to any criticism oif Israel and Israeli policies. I suppose he also made up the "reservations" Israel announced in response to the Road Map which clearly showed the inability of Israel to deal with the Palestinians as other than an "occupied people". The intellectual dishonesty of the Rabbi is breathtaking. Now that Israel is building new settlements in the West Bank, the hypocrisy shown is overwhelming. By the way, since Israel has set out the precondition of " recognition" and 'legitimacy" as preconditions for dealing with the Palestinians, is Israel willing to give the same "recognition" and "legitimacy" to the PA???.
19. Anti-Semitism from the book Page 26
Mark ,   USA   (12.29.06)
It was especially interesting to visit with some of the few surviving Samaritans, who complained to us that their holy sites and culture were not being respected by Israeli authorities — the same complaint heard by Jesus and his disciples almost two thousand years earlier.

Why am I not suprised when our former President is anti-Israel. He has been on the wrong side of every issue that faces the world. He is the face of EVIL. Mike

For him to be a former US president and a 'christian , this goes beyond being labeled shameful; it is a disgrace.

Raoul Schur ,   Netanya Israel   (12.29.06)
Well thought out article. I have no intention reading the book. For me, the title, with it's provocative and hate-arousing *apartheid* connotation, says it all. However, Brackman has convinced me he is an anti-Semite, no less.
28. Carter
Marc ,   West Palm Beach, USA   (12.29.06)
I really do not know what Jimmy Carter is, whether he is an anti-Semite or not. What he seems to be is a very misinformed man with a very distorted view of world events. He will embrace Castro, Chavez and every left wing dictator around the world, and attack America and Israel. He seems to think that America and Israel are responsible for the world's ills. According to Carter, if only Israel would act against its own interests, the Middle East would have peace, and thus the world. Has he heard of Hezbullah, al-Qaeda, Hamas, Kashmir, Chechnya, Tibet, Sudan, Somalia, etc.?

I've often wondered about WHY Israel had to keep Gaza. It's obvious that egypt didn't want it...but why didn't Israel insist that they MUST take it or no Sinai? Do you know anything about this? I'd appreciate any info.
