1. Bassi-You Finally Feel What 10,000 Jews You've Expelled Felt
Meyer   (01.07.07)
2. You've got a lot of nerve, Bassi
marya ,   sacramento, USA   (01.07.07)
"We love this place, and we love those living in it. We were both born here." Gee, that's too bad. That's a real sad story. There were lots of good, law abiding folks who were productive, who committed NO CRIME who lived in a place called Gush Katif - some for up to 30 years! They lived there, worked there, produced vegetables and flowers, raised children there with the blessing of the government. Their children died fighting for Israel and were buried there. Some died at the hands of their bloodthirsty neighbors. Contrary to propaganda and the "piss now" animals they were there will full knowledgement and blessing of the government until Sharon got his ass in a corrpution scandal. Then they were the scape goat - flung over the cliff like a sacrifice for the leftwing media and religion-haters in Tel Aviv. Sharon won his election OPPOSING Amran Mitzna's platform of "DISENGAGEMENT." What has been the glorious and peace-inducing cost/result of transferring Jews from their home into the hands of those who despise and murder them? Did you get peace? What did you get for handing over hothouses? Yonatan Bassi, I have no pity for you. Why don't you go live in a paper caravilla like the decent people of Gush Katif? It's really much too good a place for the likes of you!
3. Measure For Measure: Mida K'Negged Mida
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (01.07.07)
He did the unthinkable and helped ethnically cleanse Jews. May HIS exile be worse and serve as a punishment for his evil deeds.
4. I feel very badly for these Jewish refugees
Steve ,   USA   (01.07.07)
What Mr. Sharon did to these wonderful residents of Gush Katif was nothing less than a crime. These were peaceful and idealistic Jews who made their home in Gaza at Ariel Sharon's urging (see Sharon's auto-biography: "Warrior" pg. 258). Then in deference to President Bush's lust to create a Jew-free (judenrein) Palestinian terrorist state, our great war-hero, Ariel Sharon capitulated, sent in the army and expelled all these wonderful Jews from their homes, farms, greenhouses, cemeteries and synagogues, turning our land all over to the jihadists. This blot on the history and on the people of Israel. Shame on any Jew who supported this injustice.
5. GOOD WORK!!!
(01.07.07)
6. #1
naomi   (01.07.07)
How on earth can you compare what these people went through and are going through, to this ordinary little phenomena that happens in all kibbutzim all the time. I know it happened in the religious kibbutz of which we were members for five years. Members, also vatikim, as here, took time off, and didn't suffer at all.and how lucky they were. No one gives you that chance in town! I wish the katif peoples terrible situation was as 'light' as this one.
7. He feels no shame, no regret
Tracy W   (01.07.07)
"We love this place, and we love those living in it....Our entire lives have been invested in Sde Eliahu. And now, on the brink of old age, how can we move to another place?" I had to read that statement twice. I have no comment other than to say that I hope he gets to answer for his acts one day.
8. Mr. Destruction
happysettler ,   ofra(outside ghetto)   (01.07.07)
You are just a simple cog in the pathetic wheel of jewish destruction which has rasised its ugly face. We outside the ghetto are not surprised by the fact that you have become a an unacceptable persona non grata within your own community- the worst is yet to come - you have to live the rest of your days hating yourself for the immense injustice which you plcaed upon your fellow Jew. Sleep well Mr. Traitor.
9. Too good for a traitor like him
Lila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.07.07)
He did nothing, nothing, nothing to help the good, innocent people who were thrown out of their homes. HE should be living in a tent in the cold - he should be living in those cold, leaky caravans. He is a criminal against the Jewish people, and will go on trial when normal people are running the country.
10. IS JAIL A PROPER PUNISHMENT FOR TREACHERY?
Ben Avraham ,   Tel Aviv   (01.07.07)
11. what goes around , comes around
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (01.07.07)
He he expelled thounsands of Jews into a painful exile should get the taste of it bon voyage
12. He should move to Sderot!
Ken Dalton ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.07.07)
Then he will see some of the significant strategic weakening that he helped cause. Afterwards, he could go from town to town accross the country seeking the forgiveness of the thousands of good families he played a role in harming.
13. Bassi Family
Terry Mathis ,   Goulburn Australia   (01.07.07)
The nerve of those castigating the Bassis! They did what their government asked of them and are treated so badly?(anonymous ones don't count, they are cowards). I beg of you, stay. You will win and your detractors will be seen for what they are. Before you get on your high horses, my wife is a Sabra, Australian born and raised (except for nine years on a kibbutz, wonderful phase of her life). Terry Mathis (dual US and Australian passports), I am 'True Blue'. I don't hide!
14. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!
YD   (01.07.07)
We dont feel bad for you! You were heartless in hurting over 10,000 people, kicking them out of thier homes, without the option of returning after 2 years.
15. NICE VACATION
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (01.07.07)
You will have with all the blood money you made Bassi. Your acts were low and immoral, so you do not deserve peace in your old age. For many you are simply a traitor doing the states dirty work. In your writing i do not see any remorse towards the people of gush katif, so shame on you and your family. For the rest you are not worth another word, you do not deserve pity yust condemnation.
16. You can't make this stuff up
Ken ,   Chashmonaim   (01.07.07)
"We love this place, and we love those living in it. We were both born here...And now, on the brink of old age, how can we move to another place?" It's almost as if the Bassis' letter is a parody on what Mr. Bassi helped do to countless others. My heart breaks for the Bassis...NOT.
17. Zionist hatred is disgusting
Daniel van Dalen ,   Jerusalem   (01.07.07)
1. Do not hate another Jew. 2. Forgive others for anything they did. 3. Learn the facts before you start screaming. The Disengagement Authority was NOT implementing the disengagement. It was founded as the government office which had to provide ASSISTANCE to the settlers, to compensate them, to arrange places to live. They utterly failed in that task, as we all know, but that is beyond the point. Bassi had no role in carrying out the disengagement. His job, the entire Disengagement Authority, was not in any way related to that. Their only job was to provide compensation, assistance, for those who were to be expelled from their homes. Of course he could also have refused the job. I am sure that some Israeli Arab or a north Tel Avivian Meretz supporter would have had your preference for this job. Please open your crazy eyes. Take away the blind extreme hatred from your minds. This reminds me of how you Zionist extremists spoke ot Ariel Sharon a year ago, saying that he should die, that he deserved the stroke, that he should suffer like the people of Gush Katif etc. suffered. That attitude is about as Jewish as worshipping Jesus is. One who treats another Jew like that - some were even praying for Sharon to *die* last year instead of to recover - does not deserve the right to be called a Jew and deserves only to be spat upon.
18. You headed the authority that disengaged you
Steve ,   USA   (01.07.07)
B"H You headed the authority that disengaged you. Now you are asking for sympathy. There is a difference in volunteering for such an effort to expel Jews versus being forced out. I cannot see any security benefit whatsoever to the move of ripping farmers out and replacing them with armed individuals, except that Hamas won the "election" forcing the world to recognize Hamas for which it is, the armed force that is attacking Israel independently of whatever "agreements" Abbas makes. Now Jews are realizing what a mistake it is to hand launching pads over to a military force that intends the destruction of Sderot and which has harmed the economy of that region. Why should I feel sympathy for this reawakening? This is but a small taste of the bitterness the rest of the people went through, your getting expelled. You can still sell your home, however, unlike those expelled. Do yourself a favor. While you are out, let one of those you disengaged reside in your home, without rent, since all his money was stolen. That is the way to start to repair for this situation and express some genuine sorrow for it.
19. Shocking man
Shlomo ,   Gush Katif   (01.07.07)
He is the perfect "israeli"....non-repentant, emotional, illogical and breathtakingly arrogant. A man who wears a kippah took bribe money from Sharon to destroy fellow Jews lives and worse yet, leave them impoverished in caravans begging the state for crumbs. Do you know he received a 100,000 shekel bonus (on top of big salary and benefits and protection). Why? It was a performance bonus on the efficient pogrom of Gush Katif by the yassam animal goons. Note that his bonus was not at all tied to the building of new cities for the refugees, only kicking them out on time. This Bassi man disgusts me - I wouldn't feed him dog food if he was starving. It is an embarrassment to the kibbutz that they did not throw him out the moment he took the job. And one last thing...this Bassi creep writes in his letter that he became hated because he went "in service of the State". Really! He served the state by destroying 10,000 lives, opening up the southern border to Hamas rocket smuggling/terror, reducing Israel's military deterence to zero, emboldening our enemies (should I have said peace partners?) to conquer Israel, and worst of all, removing the blessing of the IDF which it has had for six decades and turned the IDF into a confused, group of ideologues and mis-trained soldiers. When I was in Gush Katif, I told 1000s of soldiers face-to-face that even if you don't see the crime of the disengagement, don't you see that the IDF has had a special blessing and won wars by miracles...and I said that if you destroy Gush Katif, the IDF will loose its blessing and loose wars by miracles. And so it happened that the IDF was thoroughly defeated in the Hizbullah war. I hope Bassi doesn't just leave his kibbutz, but I hope he leaves the country, spend the rest of his days in sackcloth and ripping his clothes and begging the Almighty and the Jewish nation for forgiveness for his national and historical crime against Israel. But his first step would be to say three words that are seemingly illegal in secular Israel these days: "I was wrong!" Bassi (and Sharon) and these horrid actions have brought a curse upon the seed of Abraham (that is Jewish Israelis)...and they are and will be intensely cursed for it...at least Bassi still has a chance to repent...unlike Sharon...who the Almighty only gave about 4 months after the disengagment to repent...alas...he did not...Bassi..if you are reading this...don't make the same mistake...
20. Bassi's troubles have just begun
Marcel ,   Florida   (01.07.07)
The whole gang of reward Islamic terrorists nad punish innocent Jews for no peace will pay a severe price for their evil. Their only hope is to repent of this evil and ask Hashem for forgiveness.
21. Sad
Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (01.07.07)
Poor guy . That's what you get for trying to help them . Sharon supported them for years and they threatened his life.... Rabin gave them Jerusalem and they shot him in the back. Next time nobody will step up to help them ...... and for you frothing at the mouth haters on here.... there will be a next time .
22. you are probably right #17 but...
DAniel ,   Formerly Israel   (01.07.07)
considering what the settlers and the rest of the country went through and continues to go through because of the disengagement I think we can give them a break. Those who prayed for Sharon to died were perhaps being unjewish, but considering that Sharon destroyed everything the and their fathers and their grandfathers had worked to create adn put their childrens' life in danger, we have to stop and wonder what we would have done in their place.
23. now imagine if it was the jewish army!
lm ,   israel   (01.07.07)
..kicking you out, you selfish erev rav
24. Doing his job? Following orders?
Tracy W   (01.07.07)
I don't think those arguments have any value. Not after the lessons learned during the 20th century. And it's disturbing to read them coming from Jewish readers. Even many whose lives have been threatened have had the decency to refuse to act against their conscience. This particular individual had not only the choice to refuse, but he had the influence to protest and to guide his friends away from such a brutal and unfair policy. He chose to hurt others because of his own personal motives. Compassion for this individual is totally misplaced.
25. Willing to Trade
Oreet ,   homeless in Israel   (01.07.07)
I have an offer to make Bassi, now that he feels he must leave his home - how about he trades his home in the kibbutz with my "caravilla" - cold, windy, drafty, impossible to keep warm in the winter, cracks in the walls, defective windows, and the list goes on - he can live here for two years - and see what he contributed to Israel - hard working productive people thrown out like yesterday's trash - with no decent housing, no work and the failure of the Disengagement Authority staring us right in the empty bank account every single day. I don't feel sorry for him - he deserves to go through what we are experiencing and then maybe he'll understand - but feel sorry for him - what a laugh!!!
26. #17 Daniel; your hatred
Steve   (01.07.07)
You wrote: "Of course he could also have refused the job." I guess he could have. Would you have taken the sordid job? Look at these people. They are virtual refugees. All these beautiful jewish communities, destroyed and given over to the jihadists who are firing rockets into Sedrot and you approve of this? Where is your Jewish soul?
27. he destroyed entire jewish communities...like Titus
(01.07.07)
28. " won't reawaken the controversy."-bassi
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, MO USA   (01.07.07)
Forgetting is your form of Tshuva, yet others will not forget your hatred for those who love the land and make it bloom. The land that protects all of you yet you would be the broker of what belongs to all Jews past, present and future. Without the three T's you will never feel comfortand maybe even then, if you gain some modicum of empathy instead of false self-interest, it may still not be sufficient for you to ever find comfort for living in your silthy skin. Tefillah, Tzadakah, T'shuva now and never be kind to those who come to kill you or you will kill those who are kind. Never give that which is sewn with your blood to those who extort it. Enforce their right of return to their homicidal hamite peninsular homeland of their own name. Do not expel those who love the land that protects you of your own name.
29. Two points for the good guys...finally
Am Hanetzach   (01.07.07)
The only sad part is some other poor community is going to have to take this jerk.
30. # 17 Bassi got a bonus for evacuation
Am Hanetzach!   (01.07.07)
he was MOST definitely in charge of much of the evacuation and got a stinking bonus for his efficiency - while these people got NOTHING. And...he owns a bug-free packing plant - while he helped put out of business his major competition - conflict of interest, no? Justice - though late - finally arrives to Bassi's door! I love the idea of him moving to Sderot - who deserves to suffer the fruits of the expulsion better than Bassi?
