61. iran/venezuela investments
bob graham ,   las vegas nevada-us   (01.14.07)
Ahmadinajad and Chavez are both too young to remember how Iran ripped off US investments in that country, so it is probably good that they hook up and invest in other countries. After they get ripped off like the US did, what recourse have they? It is though a shame that we had to have such an abusive president to force this issue.

63. Iran, Venezuela agree to thwart ‘US domination’
Harry K ,   Albuquerque, USA   (01.14.07)
This reminds me of Hitler and Mussolini. Take care of them now or after they are much stronger. Take you choose.

A small group of individuals able to subject it's own citizenry to total govenmental domination will isolate itself from those countries whose citizens totally dominate the government. These two birds will create a condition denying all who desire to be free. Self determination is a human right given to everyone by the Creator. The other group you refer to has a name....it's called the oppressed. Free people are the hope of those who have no voice of their own. You have the ability to express yourself as you like, isn't this something everyone should have? Not in the eyes of the oppressor.
65. reply to not bill clinton
andy ,   england   (01.14.07)
hi Not Bill. I am actually pro USA (as they support israel)and anti European (as they are generally anti-israel). I am also anti terror ism from anywhere, which is why I made the point of the support the USA used to give to the IRA. Seeing kids blown to pieces in shopping malls is the same whether its by Al Quaeda or the IRA. Not nice. With regard to the people you mention, I cant agree more....but dont take it that all of the UKs residents express their leftish anti USA/anti Israel blurb. (Sorry but never heard of Mcshane.) Tell u what, we'll export em all to Tehran as long as youll let us put McGuiness and Adams on the same flight.
66. ISRAELIS LOVE AMERICA. MAY YOU GROW STRONGER AND STRONGER.

68. to not bill clinton-i love your posts.
avraham ,   jerusalem   (01.14.07)
you are a great and brave country, and thats why the all world is jealous of you. like the all world is jealous fof jewish people. may the god of israel bless you.
69. Iran
Tim ,   Tampa, US   (01.14.07)
All I can say is, if Iran pursues this much further and actually develops a bomb.....not to mention using it, that country will see a very large explosion.... This is pure insanity! In a game of chess, all they could do is lose....
70. Canadians
Tim ,   Tampa, US   (01.14.07)
I think Ive had enough of hearing canadians down the US..... These folk depend on us beyond their wildest dreams and yet they still ignore whats going on in this world.... Try learning some history folks... What led up to WWII?????? Everyone wanted to make friends with the devil, and where did that get them? The left is NUTS!!!!!
71. To #42
Quantril ,   R.C USA   (01.14.07)
Congratulations! How does it feel to live like a slave with all your government handouts? By the way...if your free, tax payer paid medical care is so great, then why do your fellow citizens keep coming over the border to receive treatment for life threatening medical conditions in our hospitals? Please, don't ever visit our country, cry babies like you are not welcome.
72. Investing in poor countries is terrorism?
Eric ,   San Diego, USA   (01.14.07)
Why are you trying to escalate the war in Iraq by forcing Iran into it? Iran's investment in poor third world countries is tantamount to terrorism to you? You people have basically lost your minds, right along with the neo-conservative wackos that lied the world into this quagmire in the first place.
73. to avraham
andy ,   england   (01.14.07)
hi Av. Some truth in your posts, but not all. There are lots of people in the UK who love Israel and the USA. Many of us support Israel financially and through the donation of clothing, medicines etc. And there are still some that love Yahweh. There are good and bad in all societies, including the USA. I just wish those in the USA who spent millions of dollars supporting Irish terrorism had instead spent the money supporting Israel.
74. oil
Charles P Pirkle , J ,   cleveland,tn,usa   (01.14.07)
The U.S. should embark on a "manhattan project" type effort to get of oil and let the inbread hate-mungers starve.
75. oil
kathy ,   Orlando, Fl   (01.15.07)
I think we should have developed an alternative fuel source years ago. It makes no sense to conduct business with people who hate us. When this does happen and they no longer have the income from the oil, what are they going to do? 95% of Iran's income comes from oil. They do need to diversify so that their people can have jobs and income, but they won't because they don't care about their people. Also, for those American slammers out their--we are always damned if we do something or damned if we don't. Quite frankly, I am sick of it. Anyone remember 9/11? By the way, I stopped buying Citgo gas months ago. If we all do small things like that ,we can contribute in the fight against terrorism.
76. The responsibility of freedom
Gomez ,   USA   (01.15.07)
When did the US lose its ability to help oppressed people DREAM of the boundless opportunity that freedom and capitalism offer? When Liberal Democrats (aided by the news media, leftover '60's leftist professors, and pea brains in entertainment) became enamored with the power available to them by enslaving the ignorant masses; all under the guise of COMPASSION and EQUALITY. Same tired rhetoric, same tired approach, but now with more money and nastier terroristic tactics. US pride, together with freedom to innovate, will still prove them to be paper tigers.
77. Your freedoms
Doug ,   U.S.A   (01.15.07)
Perhaps part of your argument is true, but those same policy makers have kept us the most powerful country in the world and continue to keep this the best place in the world to live, with the greatest freedoms, which there oppression of other countries as you say helps to gurantee for us.

Unfortunately you are right about what it will take for most people to realize how right our actions actually are. And very nice article. And sometimes we get things wrong but the U.S.A sure does try hard.
80. Andy, England
Doug ,   sullivan   (01.15.07)
I believe most people in the U.S.A consider the UK our greatest friends and Allies, As we have always been yours.
81. Chavez & Ahmadinejad
Howard Ino ,   Orlando   (01.15.07)
President Hugo Chavez may be just dumb enough to trust Ahmadinejad. Like the spider and the frog as they were drowning... "Sorry Frog, It's just my nature!"

a terrorist country investing in a third world country, Hmmmmmm, what could they possibly want for their "investment". couldn't be a land-bride for direct access to us could it ? no , no , no that would be just to outrageous wouldn't it ?! well maybe them there terrorist type people are really wanting to help. chavez got re-elected ?? yeah my ass. more like the majority of people were terrorized into not even bothering to vote or even speak out for that matter. thankfully i live in a country where i am not only free to speak my mind, i am also allowed to do it. you misguided souls are going to find out just how wrong you are . Quite actually the reason you probably don't care what you allow these terrorist rulers to get away with is because you're either bitter or you just don't care how your grand-children or great grandchildren will have to live or if they will be allowed to live. remember you have no choice with these types of wing-nuts in charge. so invest with them and sell out your future generations pal.
83. Hang in there...

84. Reply to 56 - "Our role..."
Aristopher Johnson ,   San Francisco, USA   (01.15.07)
Your language conveys a lack of any basic understanding of political life or international relations. The facts are seen by your eyes. Look at the lives at the citizens in Iran and the US, look at Venezuela and Argentina. The difference is night and day, and demonstrated at every practical level as well as ideally, do you support the broad nationalization of industry? How do you account for the higher levels of poverty, unemployment, violence, lack of education and health services, just to name a few default characteristics of your depressed fantasy. In the meadow of philosophy these nations stand, as ours, but how unmoderate and hubristic they are in comparison. The USA is guilty of being a nation, and everything that the notion presupposes. In the world right now, the forces of good and evil are playing themselves out (and this does not prenecessitate any God) and we find ourselves on the right side, and only history will tell whether our nation stood up or if the unjust got the better.
85. wow.
Godsfavorite ,   Salt Lake City, USA   (01.15.07)
This last comment was soo hateful I don't know how it was posted. James violence never solves problems. "Great Minds and Spirits are frequently met with violence from those with mediocre minds." - Albert Einstein
86. #33...pip squeak
John ,   Austin, TX   (01.15.07)
It's easy for some in a diminutive dominion such as Canada to complain about consumption of resources by the conglomeration of immigrants in the United States...but remember our nearly 300 million inhabitants to your 33 million. isn't it only logical that the US would consume more? Perhaps you can expand on the state of health care in Canada, hum!
87. Bring it you yellow bellyed jackasses
Rick ,   Tempe, AZ.   (01.15.07)
I am sick and tired of these pansy asses going around slaming us. Instead of being little puss!&$ and having other people fight your fights bring it yourself. Chavez you think you are high and mighty running your government with an iron fist how bout this let your people actually speak out against you and see how much your country really hates you and see how quick they kick you out of office. And as for Amenjhad quit giving out empty threats against America and Israel and BRING IT. Oh thats right you can't because you know that the second you attack, your country will turn in to a big glass parking lot. Someone give me training and money and I will go over to both of these guys countries and gladly kill both of them. BULLET TO THE HEAD.
88. Good.
Sims ,   Atlanta, Georgia   (01.15.07)
I think this is a great idea. Maybe now we can stop supporting these same countries financially and spend some of that money here at home. Everytime another government calls for our help, we answer that call no matter who they are. If the world would like to see a planet without the influence of the United States, I say we take them up on it. Next time you need help monetarily, militarily or politically....call someone else. We're closed.
89. Like I said......
Sims ,   Atlanta, Georgia   (01.15.07)
......at some point everyone needs America's help. Frankly i'm tired of being every other country's monetary or military tampon. The next time you need help for anything, call Canada. We're done.
90. Idiot....
Sims ,   Atlanta, Georgia   (01.15.07)
.....he spends that money on 'his people' to increase his power. It's a lot like the philosophy with the left in this country. Give entitlements so the people become dependent on you. ........He's now trying to change the law in his country to allow the Venezuelan president to serve unlimited terms. THIS is a man drunk on his own power. He too, will meet his demise.
