I agree he is guilty of betraying Israel for what MONEY. He is not the first and will not be the last to sell out there country for money. Look at the presenet Israel Gov't there so currupt there doing the same thing selling Israel out

It's a shame there isn't in Israel "Tod durch Strang", same way as Saddan
5. Israel is naive ,gullible, stupid !
Marcel ,   Florida   (01.14.07)
Tomer is just a reflection of much of Israel which provodes the knife to the enemy to kill them with. This is evident by the 14 years of Oslo ,Road map which weakens Israel before the final thrust of the knif Israel has provided tro her enemies. What is os tragic to me is that Israel stubbornly refuses to awaken from this naive and stupid suicidal faithless delusion. It's no wonder Tomer was so well recieved back at Kibbutz Evron. He is one of the many naive fools who live in a delusional world .

These kibbutzniks are right. I'm also naive. The reason I rob banks is because I don't think it's a crime.

first, no one really was there to see what tomer's part was in all this fiasco. he may have just been the delivary person without the knowledge of the destiny of these night vision goggles. he may have thought that it will be great profit and a quick way to make money in secret, but didn't necessarily know that these are meant for hizbullah. had he had this knowledge, then what would he have done? this is the key. he probably was not told the whole facts, so he couldn't think that this will betray his country of origin. however, dealing in illigal arms and military equipment is a big offense and i am surprised he served only 6 months in jail. i am also surprised that the israeli authorities didn't see fit to arrest him upon arrival, question and put him on trial in israeli court. about YERIDAH? unfortunatelly, israel is absorbing so very many people from all over the world, creating social pressures, employment and job shortages and the salaries are aweful. there is really no middle class in israel as it stands. it's rich and it's poor. higher education is too expensive for most people and not all kids go to college to get a career going. in a little countgry like israel, there are not as many opportunities as outside of the country. young people in israel, most of them, have traveled to the usa and europe and saw things and opportunities they would like for themselves, which is hard to get in israel. you cannot feed children only with national pride and zionism and the love for israel. many yordim have come to do so with great difficulty and lots of guilt. they are also tired. tired of wars and bombs and security issues. it is hard to get by in israel. lots of red tape, lots of beurocracy, etc...there is so much opportunity in the usa for israelis. they are looking to the west and want to emulate it and grab a little peice of the pie if they can. i don't blame them. do you?
11. Kibbutz Life
JK ,   NYC   (01.14.07)
Many children on Kibbutz and in Israel in general are raised with twisted morals. Years ago I was on a kibbutz and girls would come back from Japan after a few months with tens of thousands of dollars from working as whores, escorts and bar girls, that a lot of pri gat juice.
12. TO NUMBER 10
N H ,   tel aviv israel   (01.14.07)
this attempt to justify yerida is thoroughly flawed. first we are talking about somene who left israel at the age of 22. so where was the red tape, lack of jobs? did this person study anything? did they try? it's easy to blame things on red tape, social pressures, etc. but yordim are willing to move furniture, be security guards, wash dishes, etc. ? are they willing to do jobs like this in israel? are they willing to study? are they willing to open start-ups and bring money to israel? or are they only willing to move to the usa with the education they recieved in israel on the taxpayer dollar? israel absorbs 1/2 the people a year than yordim who abandon israel. manufacturers are dying to give jobs to trained peole in israel. the salaries are good for those educated like anywhere else. and there is universal health insurance and other hidden benefits that don't exist in places like the usa. higher educations is 1/10 what is in the usa and very cheap. people are able to pay for it while working full time over the summer. most people simply don't believe in anything. they have grown up on self-hatred and a lack of attachment to anything greater than themslves. yes yordim have opportunities in the usa. to work as movers, sell junk, be drug dealers. marry goyim, give up on judaism, live in tiny apts in manhattan, etc. but israel will survive and prosper despite them. because as throughout jewish history part disappears and the essential core. it is too bad that in the meantime they only do damage to the jewish people. because the jewish people is one body.
13. NOT SO NAIVE
Ari ,   South Africa   (01.14.07)
A person surviving in New York who changes his name is street wise, or at least learning to be street wise. Dealing with an Arab selling equipment used by the military must ring alarm bells even to the not so street wise. Especially being in the Israeli Army one should at least walk away from such a situation because the chances are that this would be used against Israel or the U.S.A. are pretty good.

thanks, nicely put. you make many good points. i believe that in addition to what we talked about, the most essential piece missing is that israelis today do not identify with israel as much as they identify with dollars and mercedeces. i lived in israel in the times where we idolized our country and would have given anythingf willingly to stay and live in it and protect it. capitalism came and knocked on israel's door eventually. along with it came the destruction of ideals and what our youth held in supreme importance. we were the builders and defenders of our country in our times way back then. now....well....just look at the night life that was going on in israel while the north was being bombed constantly. the soirit is gone. that is a very important thing that holds people united and caring.
16. He was ALREADY a criminal in the U.S.
Jeff ,   Herliya   (01.15.07)
Per the article, he went to the U.S. with the intention of breaking the law there -- he went intending to work illegally on a tourist visa. Then, he gets involved as a middleman transferring military equipment from country to country, all in good faith, as an innocent? GIVE ME A BREAK! He deserves much more than a mere 6 months in jail and deportation.

martin ,   stevenage - england   (01.15.07)
i remember the kibbutzniks caught spying for the syrians just prior to the 1973 yom kippur war. how many decent israelis were killed because of them? there is someting very wrong and dangerous with the left wing in israel - any different from machsom watch? they are first and foremost socialists and hate israel. if they don, tleave by their free will, they should be tried in a court of law for treason and if found guilty - expelled
18. Naji Antoine Abi Khalil (Let me tell you bout him)
YMS   (01.15.07)
This scum bag was living in Montreal in 1992. At that time his wife gave birth to a set of five at the local Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, in April 1992. Of course being the "JEWISH" they fell all over themselves helping this poor young couple. In effect before the deluge of Arabs here in Quebec, he was the darling of the French Qubecois Press. So much for that. Shortly after his wife's hospital stay he went back to Lebanon to visit "FAMILY". while collecting welfare from the Quebec Gov't. Here's the kicker. Canada especially Montreal has been and is a centre of Hamas, Hizbullah money gathering. THis past summer when Israel was engaged in Lebanon, a Lebanese from Montreal along with his 8 family members was killed in South Labanon. He had a Pharmacy in a Jewish Area of town where he had placed a Chabad Pushka near the cash. (Geez I could cry a river). Well after he was killed it was rumored that he was a financier for Hizbullah. In Summary Canada esp Montreal is a centre of money collection and support for Hamas Hizbullah. Csis where the hell are you?
