I think we should consider the meaningfulness of this message. After 60 years of demonizing Jews and Israel, some in the Arab world are beginning to understand. I admire Dr. al-Janfawi's courage to speak with honesty. Perhaps there can be an Arab renaissance.

Steve ,   USA   (01.15.07)
B"H I guess I have to say that is a very welcome message from the Saudis. This is welcome news. I really appreciate the sound bite. I do realize this is not an official stance of the Saudi government however and I am awaiting further positive political developments.
7. Misleading Title for the Article
Persian CAT   (01.15.07)
One Arab so-called journalist, Yusuf Al-Sweidan, and a Brit with an Arabic sounding name do not represent the Arab attitude about Iran. I personally think Ahmadinejad is doing his best to divert the Iraninans' attention from his economic and political failures by creating these stupid shows. But the fact is both Ahmadinejad and Iran are very popular with the Arab public, both Sunni and Shieh. So who cares what a couple of Arab talkingheads and a retired MOSAD agent who runs MIRV have to say. YNETNEWS.com please to make a mountain from a mole. If this is supposed to be a feelgood thing for the Israelis, then be my guest.

There's no doubt that you're right -- Ahmedinazi is popular in the Muslim street, and is doing "stupid shows" to divert attention from his failings as a President at home. But the article is not misleading. It just lists a few sane voices from the Middle East. These voices should be heard and cultivated so sane Muslims can hear these voices and see that it's OK to have these opinions.

Go back and read your Qura'an over and over again at bedtime every night. Then you will understand what the prophet says of our origins.

it is still good to know that there are a few slightly less hostile Arabs and many very good Iranians like you thinking differently.

12. what about Saudi Arabia?
bob ,   potomac md   (01.15.07)
What about the anti-Semitic propoganda that appears in Saudi school textbooks and and news papers?? I can't hold this journalist responsible for all that, but it does seem to me of the pot calling the kettle beige.
13. YES! The Denial conference is both ludicrous, and repulsive!
Abdullah ,   Kuwait City, Kuwait   (01.15.07)
I do support the hatred of any race towards any other race but as a Kuwaiti I must bring one important point to all of you who do not know the attitude of Al Seyassah Newspaper! It’s both too liberal and anti-Iranian and that is why you see many of its columnists write articles who mostly are anti-Iranian! But I like Al-Seyassah and I read it almost daily! Al-Seyassah in Arabic means "Politics". Peace.

This is nothing more than Sunnis hating Shiites, and is totally divorced from any arab's consideration of the Holocaust.

Why be sourpuss? I think when people demostrate some courage and write something possitive we should recognize it and take it for what it is.Basta!

18. Iran, home for a lot of Jews, Christian and others.
Persian CAT   (01.16.07)
The fact is Iran has been the homeland for a lot of Jews for a couple of millennia. Thr largest Jewish population, outside of Israel, in the ME still lives in Iran. Today, the ELECTED reprentative of the Iranians Jews has the right and capability to publicly protest Ahmadinejad's wrong decisions, IN FARSI and in the Majles (parliament) regarding his stupid Holocaust show. All of this in spite of what the a couple of Arab talkingheads and a retired MOSAD agent who runs MEMRI, want you to believe. Someone should ask Al-Sweidan where are the Jews who used to live in that hell hole called Saudi Arabia? Sweidan writes, "For Tehran, as everyone knows, is not (exactly) an oasis of freedom, democracy, and cultural and ideological pluralism". He has a lot of nerve to utter such crap, because, although Iran is not a poster boy of freedom, it is light years ahead of his homeland, the epicenter of ignorance and backwardness and terror. Chirstian, Jews and Muslem get along well in Iran, women can work and drive. The ethnic groups have all kinds of civil, linguistic and religious rights. Again Iranian government has a lot of flaws but for a Saudi Wahhabi backward to find faults with Iran is like a whore calling a respectable woman "a bit loose".
19. Persian Propoganda
semsem ,   New York   (01.16.07)
Persian poster: Jews have always been persecuted in Iran. Many were forced to convert to Islam. It was the Sha's father who liberated them in the early 19s. Jews are not allowed to inherit property unless the oldest son converts to Islam. A Moslem must be the head of a Jewish school in Iran.
20. Muslims Speaking Out Courageously
Margot ,   Texas   (01.16.07)
I am grateful for the Muslims who are speaking out courageously against Holocaust denial and anti-semitism. They give me hope for peace and friendship among the diverse people of the Middle East.

to say that iran is democratic is like ... lol . women can drive lol . very few jews and christians live today in iran , and their freedom of speech is limited to whether they'd like to live or die, so there's no point in saying the writer's wrong about that.

yes, iranians may not comitt pogroms in iran against the jews, but they are still second class citizens living off the muslim government. do you think all these iranian jews can protest this disgusting holocaust denial conference? do you really think they'll even dare? if they do, it's prison or death... just like it happened to the iranian canadian female journalist who was imprissoned in your jails in iran, beaten to death and her doctor there told the truth of her murder by your government and eventually had to flee the country to save his throat. tell me again. do you think that these jews will even dare to oppose ahmadinejaad, rebel against the regime, march outside to oppose this rediculous conference, etc... i really don't think so and you, my man, are the dellusional one. i have spoken to many an iranian jew and their story is entirely different than yours.

you got it right. it's the truth!
24. #18 and #19
Ivan ,   Sydney, Australia   (01.16.07)
Well you do have to agree with #18, Iran is a lot freer in terms of women/religious/human rights than many of the the other ME countries (Israel being the champion of course!) and definetly beats Saudi Arabia in that regard! They even have a Jewish member of parliament as required by the constitution but the poor bastard has to pay an annual fee that goes to the "Palestinian victims". I live with a lovely couple from Tehran and we get along brilliantly, basically from what they tell me the government is very oppressive and intrusive for the common people and a lot of the people especially the city folk don't like it one bit! Regime change for Iran !!

26. There is more to this than meets the eye
steve ,   New York, US   (01.16.07)
The Middle East is girding up for a Sunni-Shiite conflict. Saudi Arabia has been secrtly talking to Israel in an attempt to coordinate actions against their common enemy, Iran. I suspect that these welcome statements be part of this. Either Israel demanded it as proof that they are less dangerous than Iran, or maybe they are trying, on their own, to show some good will. And, not incidentally, dump on Iran.
27. Steve #26 Nailed it!
Diamond ,   I prefer City.   (01.16.07)
Methinks we have a little Israel-Saudi dance going here against common enemy Iran. Disraeli's quote comes to mind. Both S.Arabia and Israel have reasons to work together on this one. If only they'd roll back the Wahhabi hate-fest against the Jews while they're at it. Well, we'll see....
