Why should an Arab feel patriotism when a guy like Lieberman feels so weak in the face of the minority that he has to deny them their democratic rights? If Lieberman was strong and understood democracy, he wouldn't be afraid of an Arab cabinet minister - he'd probably insist that there were always a couple of token Arab ministers around to show how strong Israeli democracy was. However, our government is populated by weaklings who lack leadership, and our lack of full democracy reflects that.

Israel hasn't succeeded in building a patriotism that non-Jews can identify with. Maybe it is time to give up the pretense. Doesn't it make more sense to withdraw from places where the locals don't feel Israeli like Umm al-Fahm and Nazareth and annex places where they do like Kiryat Arba and Gush Etzion? I think Israel should change completely things in this matter. I think that if arabs live in Israel ,they MUST enlist and serve the country they live in,otherwise they should be striped of their citizenships. Many could ask what about the Haredim then. I think that ,being them Jews,and Israel being a country meant for Jews,they have to have a special attention,but should enlist as well.Special attention in the sense that in the army should have special sectors only for them.I mean,maybe ,many of them don't want to serve because they don,t want to get mixed with other yongesters with modern habits they do not agree with.This must be respected and their morals and ethics as well,of course! This statistic speaks volumes. It’s a remarkable percentage considering Israeli-Arabs have been discriminated against in every walk of life since the establishment of the country. Imagine what would the percentage be had the establishment treated them fairly!! While people see it daily, no one wants to say anything because no one wants to get labeled "an extremist" or "Lieberman". But this research actually points out to these non-PC facts. And people are a lot more likely to voice an opinion when it is based on facts. I agree the research has not added anything new to our knowledge, but it may open some people's eyes to this reality. Either way, I think Lieberman's plan on having a citizen take an oath of allegiance to the state at a certain age to be so far the best thing. And the same is true of exchanging Uhm-el-Fahm for the settlement blocks. Why does Israel need such a big population of people who are not loyal to the state?

No other contry will let its people out of public service based on there ethnic group. Even though Quebec fought conscription during WWII once it was law they too were conscriped. Israel has given the Arabs a free ride for too long. If they cannot serve in the Army have them plant trees. If the Haredim cannot serve in the army - let them be scribes, teachers even babysitters!! If anyhting, this survey proves you wrong. According to you ALL arabs were labeled as not loyal to this country. This survey shows you that not only they are loyal, but up till the 2nd Lebanon war 42% were willing to carry arm and defend this country. A special Arab/Muslim unit for anti-terror raids would help avert tragedies like the recent Ramallah operation. As an American and Jew and supporter of Israel, I support Israeli Arabs in their efforts to fight racism and discrimination, and integrate into and prosper within Israel's secular capitalist democracy. But you must understand the Jews are facing (ANOTHER) genocide, and this is war. We are in survival mode.
