1. Look at the Nazi Symbol and the Sanskrit Symbol
bentham ,   singapore   (01.17.07)
The Sanskrit one has four dots the Nazi one dosent. So what is the confusion about ?What confusion, go and ask a vedic brahmin, who should show you the matter concerning your illusion and prejudices.Any vedic brahmin will tell you the star of David supercedes all symbols.
2. Indian swastika is not the Hackenkreuz--Germans back off!!
bob ,   potomac md usa   (01.17.07)
The Indian Hindu people have always been very kind to the Jews and allowed them to practice their faith without inhabition--and without making them "dhimmis" as did the other religoin in India, the so-called "relgion of peace' (cough, gag)and, thanks to polciies that have been instituted in India over the past decade or more, Indian relations with Israel have been very good. In addtion the The ancient swastika--which appears also in Buhhhism--and in some Native American art forms--has nothing to do with the Nazi Hackenkreuz--It the Nazis (may their names be blotted out) adopted someone else's respected symbol for their own evil purposes--and inverted the direction of the "whell" and didn't have the four dots--the Germans are being overly and destructively PC in now attacking the ancient symbol.
3. Respect 6 million Jews or a 5000 year symbol?
AMIR   (01.17.07)
While SIX million Jews in Europe where the victims of horrible genocide taking place in Europe, the so called "Continent of the Human Rights", our Hindu friends where living in their villages isolated from the outside world not aware of the evil and hatred that was falling upon the Jewish people. So the Hindus are the last ones who should intervene in this question, they rather bann it from their religion than daring to defend it. Concerning the Cross and the Klux Klux Klan, it's much different because the criminal and the victim share the same faith in the Cross and venerate it, so you would find millions of black people all over the world who would defend the Cross before a white people does it. The question to all the Hindus who claim "peace loving" teachings, is it appropriate to respect a 5000 year symbol or to respect 6 million innocent human souls -who happened to be Jews- and who perished under this same symbol?
4. Respect 6 million Jews and others
bentham ,   singapore   (01.17.07)
:)
5. Another Nazi crime
jsm ,   toront   (01.17.07)
Yet another Nazi crime was to steal and trample on a symbol that is not there own. Add for dots to show the differance. Reclaim what is yours.
6. Compromise:: Exclude the use of Swastika by ethnic Europeans
KMR ,   Middle East   (01.17.07)
7. # 3. Nazi-Europeans responsible for genocide of Jews&others
KMR ,   Middle East   (01.17.07)
To # 3. Nazi-Europeans responsible for genocide of Jews&others...... The answer from all the Peace Loving Hindus is: - it is quite appropriate to respect a 5000 year religious symbol and also - to respect 6 million innocent human souls (not only Jews but including others) who perished under misuse of symbol by Nazi-Europeans(not by Hindus). They shall exclude the use of Swastika symbol by ethnic Europeans. Else, exclude all religious symbols......
8. He was not even an ARIAN as claimed !
bentham ,   singapore   (01.17.07)
9. Ethnic European? What's that?
Jake   (01.17.07)
Another bogus pseudo-terminology, just like the 'Aryan race' (which are in fact Iranians, Afghans, and Indians). How many wildly different peoples and languages exist in Europe? Are we saying Greeks, Swedes, Czechs, and Hungarians constitute the same ethinc group? If you tell lies now, the truth will catch up to you later tenfold.
10. #3, Amir
(01.17.07)
So let's ban the cross, because of the inquisition... or maybe the crescent, because of the sword-conversions... Or maybe the Star of David in memory of the ones killed in the conquer of Canaan...
11. they are different symbols ..
redmike ,   tel aviv - Israel   (01.17.07)
one rotates to the right and one to the left so how would banning the swastika affect the use of the Hindu symbol? I'm almost certain that a court of law would rule that the Hindu symbol was legal even if the swastika were not. Otherwise it would be like saying that a cow and a horse are the same since both have four legs and are vegetarian.
12. 6 MILLION JEWS MURDERED OVERULES 5K YEARS OF COW WORSHIP
concerned citizen ,   nyc   (01.17.07)
If these fakers cared so much about their beloved swastika, why did they give it to the German murderers without protest. Hypocrites.
13. svastika...
bernard ,   france   (01.17.07)
comes from ancient sanskrit , a scholar language used for all sacred texts of hinduism. svastika roughly means: good omen. the nazis hijacked twice this symbol.
14. ALLOW THE SWAZTIKA
(01.17.07)
after all the star of david offends many- as does the cross- look how many christians killed people under that symbol-- or look at the jews now- occupying palestine-
15. #12 - Think before you say something
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (01.17.07)
The Hindus didn't 'give' this symbol to the Nazis!! The Nazis just took it - modified it - and used it for themselves. People with no real historical culture coopt other people's symbols and history to give themselves legitimacy (you know who I'm talking about, don't you?) If the Hindu symbol is different than the Nazi symbol, I have no problem with it being used, especially as it is a real peace symbol for Hindus.
16. wake up before the muslims start goosestepping in isreal
jeff ,   liberal seattle   (01.18.07)
17. the swastica is a beautiful symbol.
(01.18.07)
just because it represent a period of 4 years where it was misused doesnt mean the symbol is bad. YOU GIVE it the power. and four years is a drop in bucket of history. sorry. but thats the truth.
18. Who the hell do you think you are?
Jewish Canadian ,   Toronto Canada   (01.18.07)
To us in the West the swastika represents pure evil.To Hindus however it is a symbol of peace. That is their right. You have no right to tell them what to do.As hard as this may be to believe Jews are NOT the center of the universe. To all the peaceful decent Hindus on Earth-We repect your beliefs AND your symbols. God bless you/
19. #18
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.18.07)
Thank you for saying that! I am a daughter of Holocaust surviviors, and think the ban is wrong. Ditto my mother, and I'm sure were my dad alive today, he would think the ban wrong, too. If #12 is going to play the numbers game, s/he should remember that there were always more Hindus than Jews.
20. over and over...
tom ,   new jersey usa   (01.18.07)
every time someone mentions the jews in a bad light those 6 million jews get pulled out like a get out of jail free card. What about all the Blacks, gays, gypsies, and who ever else made up the other 5 million dead that at least get to rest in peace.
21. similarities, similarities!
Reuben ,   Edmonton, Canada   (01.18.07)
Hindus worship cow so did the Jews!
22. Some old synagogues have artistic swastika motifs
Jake   (01.19.07)
23. #20 Blacks, gays and gypsis the over 5 million?
(01.19.07)
where the hell did you get this number from? As to swastika, in India it may be the peaceful symbol, in Europe it is not, thus Europeans may ban it. The symbolism of swastikas still resonates in Europe, and not only among the Jews -- it is still a favored symbol of neo-Nazis.
24. #18 Shove your indignation
AK   (01.19.07)
Hindus may use swastika as much as they want, In India; in Europe, they may not. It works the same with words having different meaning in different language -- a word may have an innocent meaning in one language and be an obscenity in another. A swastika in Europe means obscenity, for Jews and non-Jews alike, regardless what it means to Hindus. When in the West, Hindus must respect their host's sensitivities -- respect works both ways.
25. Swastik is a racist symbol - Muslim View Point
Sadiq ,   Delhi, India   (01.19.07)
I would like to inform everyone that even in India Hindus have miused this symbol for a racist agenda when the upper caste hindus used it to humiliate and propogate racism against the lower caste hindus and muslims. Hence as an Indian Muslim I firmly belive that this symbol should be banned and abolished from the face of the earth
26. #22 - Yes, one in the Galil or Yezrael
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (01.21.07)
Took a picture of it over 30 years ago in my tourist days, but can't read the caption now. Does anyone know which ancient synagogue I am thinking of?
27. Of course it should be allowed
Chris ,   Bradford, UK   (01.23.07)
Shoud the USA stop using the eagle? Why should hindus stop using the swastika. As for suggesting that "ethnic europeans" should be banned from using it that is ridiculous. How would you like a "race test" in order to be able to use a cross or a star of David?
28. Reply to #25
Soulblighter ,   USA   (01.29.07)
I do not see where you get your viewpoint. Yes caste system is eveil and has to be uprooted. But the swastika has nothing to do with it. It is widely used by all hindus irrespective of their cultural background. Not to mention jains and buddhists as well. Your comment is like saying, ban the use of the word "Allah (God)" because a few maniacal terrorists utter it before commiting acts of crime and maligning the name of the great Islamic religion.
29. Swastika
Eragt ,   US   (05.27.07)
You may not know that the Hindus in times of Hitler were under colonial rule and 99.9% of them did not even know that Hitler took it for his purpose till the holocaust happened. So, there was not way they could have protested.
30. swastika
india ,   delhi   (05.31.07)
One thing is clear muslims, christians, jews only know how to misuse things. All three of you came from the same desert. The same abrahamic religion. There have been greater holocoust before hitler.Remember how christianity came to europe forgot about greek gods or the persians who scumbled to islam. All three of you came by the sword will die by the sword.
