31. Missionizing should be banned in Israel.
Morris ,   USA, Israel in Feb.   (01.20.07)
Any religions, besides Judaism, should not have the right to missionize in the State of Israel. I say this mostly with the Jews for Jesus in mind, who tend to run major campaigns targetting Jews and Israelis, but also with Scientology in mind. I can frankly say: I have a double standard. Sure, let them missionize in the United States -- it's a tenant of freedom there. But Israel is not the United States, it is the Jewish State. It can still be a free and democratic society without missionizing. And besides, who are we kidding: most democracies are only democratic until there is a major threat. If, for some reason, non-Jews started to make sizable gains into the demographic of Israel and attempt to change the State's character, who believes Israel will simply let its Jewish character be "voted" away? There would be a war.
32. Youth for Human Rights
Dave Hickey ,   100 Mile House, Cana   (01.20.07)
Hey, I don't see your point. What's wrong with advancing the cause of Human Rights. I'm for human rights and I sure am not for journalists who write smear articles about kids who are working to promote human rights. We need constructive journalism not yellow journalism that stirs up trouble where there is none.
33. What they're not telling you...
RedStarYeast ,   USA   (01.20.07)
Noble sentiments expressed by Charlie #21 and Dali #23! But why don't they (and the other posters from Scientology headquarters in Southern California) tell you that they are Scientologists? Come on, guys, don't be ashamed! Follow the example of Ariella #11: not only a proudly self-proclaimed Scientologist, she holds the impressive rank of "Clear"! Meaning that now, after years of being fleeced, she can begin to collect..
34. Scientology targets Israeli children
Wolfram ,   USA   (01.20.07)
Why in the world is a business enterprise and pyramid moneymaking scheme like Scientology touting “human rights”? The answer is a bit complex. Like all pyramid schemes, Scientology can survive only with a constant infusion of fresh recruits to replace disgruntled adherents who leave the ranks. Hence its long-standing efforts to recruit vulnerable populations: addicts, substance abusers, the emotionally frail and insecure. But even these concerted efforts are inadequate, so Scientology has adopted a long-range program of targeting the most vulnerable population of all: children. Get ‘em while they’re young! The first step has been the opening of Scientology “schools” for the indoctrination of youngsters, but these are cumbersome and attract only the children of parents who are already committed Scientologists. A wider net has to be cast, and Scientology’s technique for this is ingeniously devious. It must first create a noble front organization, something like “Friends of the United Nations.” This organization engages in the most laudable of activities: propagation of the UN’s doctrine of human rights. Who can object to that? And this organization naturally receives the “endorsement” of the UN’s PR office, along with letters of commendation from all sorts of respected public entities. This is the first step of any scheme of this type: establishing credentials. But little does anyone know that the executive director of this organization is a Scientologist who immediately establishes ties with another noble-sounding front organization, say, the “International Fund for Human Rights,” which has created yet another front like “International Youth for Human Rights.” These are outright Scientology fronts, run by an “educator” who is in fact the manager of a Scientology “school.” And here is where we come to Israel and poor little Don Shaul. Using the “United Nations” and “human rights” ploy, these fronts are attempting not only to implant themselves in the Israeli school system: they are aiming to organize innocent children into “clubs.” They may look like laudable and idealistic endeavors: in fact, they are the first recruiting-grounds for Scientology. They are the camel’s nose under the tent. Beware!
35. Taking meds away from disabled people isn't human rights!
Aespo ,   Orlando FL USA   (01.20.07)
I doubt Tom Cruise has spent any time in a group home with mentally disabled people. One of Scientology's core beliefs is that Psychiatry is evil. Mentally Disabled people have a HUMAN RIGHT to take medication and to see a phychaitrist! L. Ron never spent time with people with Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Scientology doesn't believe in ADHD! So when I see the whole human rights stuff I think there's alot of people not playing with a full deck of cards! If Scientology "really works", why isn't there more BLIND SCIENTOLOGISTS!?... Becuase auditing is a sham. Since L. Ron's way to happiness is only though auditing, I guess it means that if your a quadraplegic person, you have no "value as a human being" to Scientology!... L. Ron is a profit because his works are "scripture" in Scientology. So if you execpt his teachings, it disconects you from Judiasm and Christanity.... Stay true to the Torrah, if your Jewish, and if you follow Christ read the bible more closely... remeber the "beware false profit" stuff. If your a Scientologist, don't get involoved in mental health issues.... that you know nothing about.
36. Jumping At Conclusions
Stan ,   Los Angeles USA   (01.20.07)
The Youth For Human Rights movement is a good thing. I have helped with it in America. Scientology does support it. I looked at some of the posts by people who are afraid of Scientology, and they clearly know nothing about it. Scientology is one of the most effective organizations for human rights in the world.
37. Actions Speak the Loudest
Larry Jaffe ,   Clearwater, FL   (01.20.07)
Dear Friends, instead of wondering about the intentions of Youth for Human Rights, why not look at the action they take and the good will the spread. With so many violations of human right throughout the world, we should at least acknowledge the attempt and willingness to spread the word about the UN Declaration of Human Rights which the bad guys would rather suppress than allow. Much good is done by knowing your rights and much harm is accomplished by keeping these right suppressed
38. This is a great idea.
Tim Corbo ,   Hollywood, Ca   (01.20.07)
I got the video that outlines the 24 basic human rights that was produced by Youth for Human Rights International and showed it to my children (10 & 13) and they loved it and it opened up a great opportunity to talk with them about this subject. I think other religious organizations should support this activity.
39. Youth For Human Rights
Tom Wright ,   Clearwater, FL USA   (01.20.07)
If these kids can deliver on the intentions of Eleanor Roosevelt and the UN Declaration of Human Rights, they will be the first to do so in decades. More power to them!
40. Shame on you
Neal Fox ,   San Marcos, USA   (01.20.07)
Does Judiasm also tell people to rant about things they know nothing of? There is nothing in Scientology that negates those principles or tells people to not follow any other religious practice. Wise up. The Jews put a lot of importance on education. Maybe you should do the same.
41. Youth group supported by Scientology
Orly Vilnai ,   USA   (01.20.07)
There is an implication in this article that there is something wrong with what Don Shaul is trying to fix. Looks to me like Don Shaul and his backers should be commended for their efforts. I don't see what is wrong with the youth for Human Rights movement or for any movement to address Human Rights problems in the world. Orly Vilnai
42. Hooray for Don Shaul
John Chambers ,   Sunland, CA USA   (01.20.07)
Israelis are to be held in the highest esteem. Of all the peoples of the Earth, they have the courage to stand up and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. That is also the Scientologist's marching song -- SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. Through history those with that belief, those who dare to take a stand, have been villified as 'nutters.' Time for you to decide if you are going to be quiet and die, or take a stand.
43. very well done
Hilla ,   Tel-Aviv   (01.20.07)
Don is a young brilliant caring person, I wonder what did you- who criticize him- have done for human rights lately
44. how interesting
haim neta ,   tel aviv israel   (01.20.07)
i'm a scientologists. i use scientology tech to help businesses to expand with very good results. my kid goes to a scientology school & loves to study!!!! my other fellow scientologists in israel are involved in scientolgy activities to reduce violance in sociaty & to fight iliteracy & abuse in jail houses where no body else dare to give a helping hand. so i ask myself why you attack this? what is your vested interest? i think that is best to evaluate people by their actions & i think that scientologists are good people - by their actions....
45. Don is a hero !
Gadi ,   Los Angeles   (01.20.07)
Nor every day we see kids who decide to take responsibility for the important things in life insted of some video games. Very well done !
46. Scientology's stealth write-in campaign
Wolfram ,   USA   (01.20.07)
Suddenly, a barrage of posts from Tim, Larry, Neal, Orly, John and Stan. One after another! Are they taking turns using the same computer? Why not? They are all Scientologists (well, I'm not sure about Stan, but he appears to be one of the pack). Hilla is, I suppose, a member of the Israeli "Church." But only Haim has the courage to profess his faith. Come on, guys, don't be ashamed!
47. And the list goes on...
Wolfram ,   USA   (01.20.07)
Dave, Tom, Barak...all Scientologists who for some reason -- perhaps modesty -- prefer to keep their affiliation under wraps. Funny how all of these guys in sunny LaLaLand, all of them "human rights" buffs, have stumbled onto an obscure Middle Eastern website on the same day. Could someone have tipped them off?
48. Who would be against Human Rights
Ben ,   San Diego   (01.20.07)
It is time for the author to tell us who she really is. Under the excuse of attacking Scientology she is knocking Human Rights. It is so very true that Scientology at it’s core is much about Human Rights. It is only proper that people who are insightfully favoring such rights would advocate them for others. The author, obviously, has a different agenda, one where Human Rights need not exist. As to simple facts: the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – all 30 of them are available at the UN site http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html . You go figure who’s is the vested interest behind this article. Ben
49. Youth for Human Rights
Peter Jungen ,   Battle Creek USA   (01.20.07)
Human Rights are not sufficiently known, let alone respected in this world. Any effort to raise awareness of these rights and to encourage adherence to them should be welcomed by all. I applaud this young person for daring to stand up for human rights and I believe he deserves all the help he can get, be it from his parents, the UN or from Scientology.
50. scientology
Rob ,   Cantin   (01.20.07)
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? Scientolgy is very big in USA.No problems. I have been in Scientology since 1962.
51. scientology fight for humen rigths
merav   (01.20.07)

52. im for scientology
shai ,   israel   (01.20.07)
i found these guys very helpfull to many jewish activities and has no contradictions to judaism, even better i got to understand much better judaism after talking courses there. too many ugly interests trying to attack it for this is what the islam tried to do to judaism isnt it? so we never learn.
53. International Youth for Human Rights.
Marianne Soher ,   Holon, Israel   (01.20.07)
How many how us possesses the complete list of organisations and enterprises backed up by big american concerns? Does this imply that the same big concerns impinge their policies on their proteges? Thus it goes in Scientology. Since scientology is a huge organisation actively involved in rescuing a dying planet, it backs up many independent organisations which fullfil this purpose. I am a 73 years old grand'ma who discovered scientology in 1984 thanks to my eldest daughter (I have 4 kids & 6 grandçhildren). From a state of complete mental chaos - in many ways increased by a short but lethal brush with psychiatry - I came up to be a healthy, happy and useful oldie. Shame I did not start when I was Don's age. Please, before you blame one of the very few organisations that may make a blessed difference in the future of humankind and its planet, make sure you obtain faithfull and credible information, and learn to mistrust spoken reports that might be issed by biased sources. By doing so, you might get yourself into the dark side of the street instead of spreading the means to be in the sunny and happy side one, which is - I am sure - what you wish. You who is reading me, please work at being healthy and happy.
54. Taking meds away...
Marianne Soher ,   Holon, Israel   (01.20.07)
Forming opinions based on assumptions leads to plenty of bullshit. Pls, before you keep on, find out: 1.- If Tom Cruise really has never delt with disabled people 2.- If LRH "never spent time with 'disabled' people". 3.- If Ron's way to happiness is really "only through auditing" (actually, for your information : personal ethics are a priority over auditing for scientologists. Do you think you could apply that to your own life? It does not hurt...). 4.- Meds taken away from disabled people? Meds take care of the body and LRH approves of them. Psychiatrists, pretend to deal with the mind thru the body, and this is just the opposite that plenty of valuable people know should be done, which is: deal with the body thru the mind. Do not get confused: Most legitimate psychiatrists (not all are) might be meds, but fortunately enough, not all meds are Psychs!!! I could go on and on...but I'm getting tired. So in short: Pls, check your sources before you spread nonsense.
55. Scientology targets Israeli Children
Marianne Soher ,   Holon, Israel   (01.20.07)
What a dark way to look at life! I have just a couple of questions for you and I think you should ponder on your own answers: 1.- If you would want to further your purposes, how would you go about it? 2.- Are your purposes good for the world surrounding you or only for yourself? Now, you may start looking at Scientology, its recruiting techniques, its members and its kids (my own are wonderfully healthy) with a refreshed eye.
56. scientology for humen rights
mati   (01.20.07)
scientology fights for humen rights many years now, why areporter attack humen rights?what she did for humen rights?
57. Correction to #34
Wolfram ,   USA   (01.20.07)
I stated in my post that the Executive Director of "Friends of the United Nations" was a Scientologist. I have since learned that he states that he is not a Scientologist., and I take him at his word.
58. To #55
Wolfram ,   USA   (01.20.07)
I understand that some people will thrive, either briefly or for a lifetime, in the sort of authoritarian, top-down environment that Scientology imposes. For some, it is the army; for others, the Roman Catholic Church. If you are one of those, congratulations and best wishes. I have no brief against the footsoldiers of Scientology. Unfortunately, my "dark view" also sees the pervasive deception, the underlying materialism, the emphasis on money, rank and power, the cult of personality and "celebrity," the paranoia, all topped off by the rank silliness of Scientology's creation myth. If all of those were done away with, Scientology would be a wonderful idea indeed. But it would no longer be Scientology!
59. I wonder what you have done to a 13 year old boy ?
Sam ,   Israel   (01.20.07)
60. Keep living your normative life
