1. These statistics
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (01.19.07)
say a lot about the corruption of Palestinian so-called leaders. Freedom can't be purchased with guns and weapons, but through education. But it's not only that - oppression will only breed oppression. Oppressed leaders will oppress their people and misguide them. It is sad that in some countries such as KSA or the Emirates, where the economy is prosperous and money flows, there are almost no attempts to ease the plight of these Palestinians. And it is sad that countries like the US and Russia are mostly concerned with this nuclear arms race, with selling weapons hither and thither. Inshallah the time will come soon when stability will return to the middle east and our children can live in peace and security. I dream of that day.
2. SO HAVE THEM MOVE TO LIBYA
andrew ,   MIAMI,FL   (01.19.07)
3. #1, Libnaniyyeh...
(01.19.07)
First of all, this article deals with the Palestinians living in Israel who are supposed to be treated like citizens in a democratic country, instead they are treated worse than in the areas ruled by the PA (at leas when it comes to education). America and Russia are not racing, it's 2007 and the cold war is over, alot of arms are being destroyed just to defuse the tension the cold war created. You in Lebanon could also ease a bit on the Palestinians living there by allowing them to work many proffessions they're banned from.
4. To number 1
Palestinian   (01.19.07)
Maybe there was a misunderstanding, but the article talks about the Israeli Arabs. This means the Palestinians who remained in within the 1948 borders. The situation of these Palestinians is bad. The Palestinian Authority has no control on the lives of the Palestinians as they are not living in the West Bank of Gaza. These Israeli Palestinians :) are in fact Israeli citizens. Israel discriminates them from other sectors of its public. Regarding the Palestinians in the Palestinian Authority controlled area. The education level there is quite good. In fact, it is among the highest in the Arab world. The highest education rates in the Arab world are among Palestinians residing in Jordan. This should tell you how bad is the situation of Palestinians who carry the Israeli passport. Let me say this simple experience. In fact, the Israeli passport limited the Israeli Arabs from seeking education in the Arab world. At the same time, they do not have the same access given to immigrant Jews because of silly Israeli affirmative actions.
5. The Israeli Govt have given ample chances..
bentham ,   singapore   (01.19.07)
.for education, the arab israeli, have not been working hard getiing the tertiry education. They have dires social problem and the economic concern.Evert=y time some funds are receieved from international donors, they use those for terrorism. They should get active in nation building programme. The saga of racism is really untrue,The Pali have never been proactive when it comes to advancemet in life, The Pals are lazy and street fighters,The must work hard to improve their life,Thye should avoid the engagements on terror and Jihat, which could only make the Islamic Religion branded as terrorist mobe pscyco,The Israel has been ging theam all the best but all those chances were being wasted,There are a many people out there that are willingly waiting for such oppourtunity, who are worth all the social, economic support,The IDF just give awa
6. Statistics and our lebneniyyeh friend
Sam ,   Alquds- Palestine   (01.19.07)
Those statistics were explaining the situation for Palestinians who live under the Israeli rule and have Israeli citizenship, and who have no Palestinian leadership, at least formally. It does not discuss the situation in the Palestinian Authority areas, although it shows that Palestinians in PA areas get better education than their brothers who are "blessed" with the Israeli citizenship. As for Mr. Andrew in Miami, why don't you stay there in Miami and not try to say who stays here and who goes to Libya, unless your parents are originally from Libya and you long to go there, we're not going anywhere, try to live with that thought.
7. GDP of Arab Pop.
l ,   Grand Rapids USA   (01.19.07)
Socio-economic status is the result of the societal paradigm. Customs, tradition, beliefs (both religious and tradtional) influence educational goals, and, therefore economic status. :Polygamy, non-education of women, and forbidding them to work outide the home, early marriage (sometimes repugnantly early) all contribute to poverty. Let's not start blaming forces outside the community for the failures of the community.
8. My apologies
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (01.19.07)
I misread. Number 3, I am very much against my government's treatment of Palestinians living in Lebanon. Do not misunderstand me.
9. Gap is narrower
A reader ,   Paris, France   (01.19.07)
The study as reported has serious flaws: 1) A serious study should show the trend in the gap between different sectors of the Israeli Arab public, and Israeli Jews. This gap is narrowing rapidly, and it cannot be ignored. 2) The Arab population is not monolithic. II suspect the gap between Christians and Jews is almost inexistant. Between Druze and Jews it is almost as small. Between Moslems and either Jews or Christians, progress is needed, but again the trend is encouraging. 3) The gap between Arab Moslems and Jews in Israel should be compared to the gap between European Muslims and Christians. Here I am certain that in Israel, the gap is much narrower.'

if i recall correctly, you have told us that "you are a professor at a western university"...... i highly doubt it, realizing that you can't even decipher the message of the present article. you simply misunderstood who they are referring to here. if you were indeed a professor, as i am, you'd come across a bit more intelligent and knowledgeable than your talkback. your dream is nice and i wish it happens, but your present conclusion based on what you read here is faulty.

i am a palestinian female. an israeli palestinian and i enjoy full rights in israel as all my jewish neighbors. i go to the same school, use the same books and learn the same things in school. no one ever discriminate against me or my palestinian friends. you are not correct. i rather live in israel than in any arab country, especially gaza and west bank. israelis give opportunity that the jihadi don't give. israel is fee. i can do what i want. you nbot correct. don't come here to say lies. you don't know what you talk about. just asks any israeli palestinian or arab in israeli. they tell you we love it here.

it's not al quds, palestine. it is, will always be JERUSALEM , ISRAEL. now, you try to live with that because no matter what you wish or dream about, we, israelis will never let you have our homeland and its capital, jerusalem. you can re write history, revise it, modify it. you can change names of locals and cities. but you'll never be able to change the reality that israel is not yours. it is ours by historical fact and biblical as well. now, can you live with that?
13. LET THE CHILDREN FREE
Shelach et ami ,   Istanbul   (01.19.07)
BAD POLITICIANS OF WORLD. YOU ARE CAPTURING PEOPLES FREEDOM. THE JEWS THE ARABS AND THE OTHERS YOU DID CAPTURE ALL THEIRS FREEDOM. THE SKIES ANGRY ON YOU. LET THEM FREE. SAVE ARABS SAVE JEWS SAVE THE OTHERS LET START WAR TO POLITICIANS OF ISRAEL AND THE US AND THE OTHER FAKE ISLAMIST ONES THE GOD IS THE MASTER THE GOD IS THE OWNER THE GOD ALSO WITNESS TO US, NOW. A. Atilla Karagözoğlu
14. apparently number 11, you are a liar...
Palestinian ,   East Jerusalem   (01.19.07)
find another joke. Can you explain your miserable situation? Are your genes different than the Palestinians in the West Bank? I am from East Jerusalem and I can tell you 100% you know nothing and have no idea of what you are talking about. East Jerusalem schools suck, particulary those run by the municipality of Jerusalem. total discrimination, very crouded classes etc... The highest scores in Tawjihi are not from these schools, but from the Jordan affiliated ones, mainly the Wakif schools. Also private schools do better. Ironically, the Unrwa schools also are doing great... Your case cannot be extrapolated and mapped to the remaining Palestinian population of Israel... If what you are saying is true, then no reason for this Ynet news article.
15. what?? please...
shimon ,   madrid   (01.19.07)
lower than in lybia, cuba, costa rica and other desert or banana republics? higher education in syria? come on, i still want to believe that statistics are useful for some other purposes apart from propaganda!
16. Does anyone really believe these stats?
Robert ,   Haifa, Israel   (01.19.07)
If Israeli Arabs are so bad off, why not move to PA, Jordan or Libya where they can live in peace, freedom, religious tolerance, women's rights and, of course, prosperity? These stats are skewed and certainly a lie and not done by any READ unbiased third party.
17. #11 is a liar indeed
Daniel van Dalen ,   Jerusalem   (01.19.07)
#14, you are absolutely right. #11 sounds VERY fishy to me. That's very American and very good English for a person who still goes to *school*. Combined with the slightly weird message it contains, you are most likely correct in saying #11 is a liar. It's probably an American Zionist. Regarding the article: we all know all of these facts. The position of Israeli Arabs is horrible. Jews here hate Arabs. You cannot deny that us Jews have a reason for hating Arabs - the hundreds of terror victims, innocent civilians intentionally murdered by Arab terrorists, whom the Israeli Arabs usually fail to condemn. But it works both ways. We also have Jewish terrorists, and we don't condemn them either. And we don't even care when innocent Palestinian children are killed by ther IDF in 'accidents'. Or when the houses of innocent people are damaged. Maybe we deserve each other.
18. #17, who's the liar?
Antonio ,   Haifa   (01.19.07)
Jews hate the Arabs??? Since when? We just don't want them in our country or taking over our land. This is not hatred. They deserve all the rights, priveledges, and comforts of life, like any other human beings, in THEIR OWN COUNTRIES, just not in ours. They are simply unwelcomed guests in our house, not any sort of subject of hatred, and no, we don't deserve having them. We deserve a decent government that would rid us of them, and thus resolve this conflict forever.
19. v.n.y.
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (01.19.07)
I am a PhD student in my second year, and I also teach at the university I am attending. But I have been teaching at various institutions for years. My earlier comment to you was a criticism of how you respond to others and of your inflated opinion of yourself. I admit it when I have made a mistake and do not force my opinion on others. I don't wait for the first opportunity to pounce on someone if that person has been mistaken. It does not matter who I am or what I do. It does not matter what a person does if one is not at first human, and if one does not have an open mind or compassion. Anyway, peace.

you wrote : ....we Israelis .....our capital ...our homeland . You are living in the USA , not in Israel . Is Jerusalem the capital of the USA ? Is Israel the country you are living in ? Are you Israeli ? Make Alyah , then you will be Israeli , your capital will be Jerusalem , and this country will be yours .

apologies are due if i offended you. people do get very heated up when discussing issues that are so close to their hearts. sometimes it is hard to separate the mind from the heart in all this.
23. v NY Israel ?
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.20.07)
Why not writing Israel if you live here ? there is nothing to hide , and certainly not to be ashamed of , it's the contrary , we can be proud of living here . I agree with your , and our , claim that Jerusalem is historically Israeli .
24. #23 charles from petach tikvah
v. n.y. ,   israel   (01.20.07)
my god, i am not ashamed at all. i, more than any, am extremely proud not only to live amongst the wonderful israelis. in fact i am an ex american who did make aliyah with my family in the late 50's and never ever left. i have been through all the wars and conflicts. served in tzahal, etc... it's just a talkback name. that is all. now notice my new talkback mail....in you honor, that is! i am duly chastised, sir.
