31. #29 The Devil is in the Details
"...the palestinians have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity, so to speak. "
You are clearly lacking insight to what happened in both Camp David and Taba. The so-called "irresistable" offer did not include sovereignty over the Haram Shareef. Rather, it was an vague "sovereign custodianship" over the surface (and not underground). The offered financial compensation for refugees (most of them would refuse that settlement anyway) was not attached to a committment on Israel's part to acknowledge the injustice which happened in 1948 - forcing me to live in exile.
In any case, despite my opinion and yours the actions on the ground in Palestine since 1991 demonstrate that successive Labor/Likud/Kadima governments are sill and fully committed to the Zionist dream in the West Bank. Monstruous expansion of Har Homa, Ariel, M.Adumim, and the recent announcement of Maskiot prove that Israel gave up Gaza to consolidate its illegal theft in the West Bank. This gives the impression (to us and the whole world) that Israel took the strategic choice of settlement/confrontation over a negotiated peace - for profitability reasons. I'm convinced that with the swallowing of E1 in Jerusalem, and simultaenous expansion of settlements, the Jewish state reached the point of no return. Talk of "transfer" is both disgusting and shocking - if successful that would complete the genocidal onslaught started in 1948. I'm certain Israel will attempt to use the next major war (on either Syria or Iran or both) in order to launch massive large-scale terror on the Palestinians, hoping they would flee to Jordan and Egypt.
It seems Israel is not interested in regional integration. Due to the above I believe the chances for peace are dead.
