Outside Israel everywhere Jewish death rate exceeds birth rate, furthermore, neighbouring Arab states all have an extremely high birth rate. Don't compare with slowly diminishing European nations, for lack of births we have problems and they grow more difficult constantly. Mr. Landa's point of view is solely economic and precisely therefore he errs: economy is for humans, humans not for economy. To be corrected: Sweden's population exceeds the one of Israel.

This is the most superficial piece of reasoning I have ever heard. Brain power is not given to all and procreation is a crap shoot. Where is he going to get the next generation of people to do the creative work that has been Israel's strength. Not everyone can do mathematics and physics. Moreover, who will he get to do the standard work of the country. Will he import cheap Arab labor, which is how the country got into trouble in the first place. Moreover, looking at the population change in Europe, how can he possibly suggest that a declining population translates to political stability. Moreover, what is it that he expects people to do - party and consume. Raising children is a worthy occupation for humans. Moreover, in the extreme case having no children is the way to become really rich, since generation x owes nothing to generation y, since there is no generation y. However, this is not a worthy manner to spend one's limited time on the planet. People have chosen that route as well, but then their genes - no matter how worthy - are gone. Mr. Landa counts wealth in terms of trips to Europe instead of Friday night dinners with the family.

The reason that Israel is not as rich as Sweden has nothing to do with birth rates. It is everything to do with military expenditures. Israel is compelled to spend over 8% of its GDP on the military. Sweden on the other hand which has not fought a war in two centuries spends only 1% of its GDP on the military. Ditto, more or less, Denmark and Ireland. In addition, Ireland's wealth is to a large degree based on a huge tax dodge. Ireland unlike Israel actually invents and creates very little.

Irland, Denmark and Sweden are not surrounded by 22 hostile countries, nor they pour all their resources into defending their country from murderous terrorists. The country should stop bringing in so many non jewissh foreign workers who then have children in Israel and alot the time are given citizenship as a result. Just like everybody else in Israel they need homes, food and to put strains on the health service when they get ill. They are the real burden to the country there are plenty of unemployed Israelis its time for the government to start encouraging them to take these badly paid jobs rather they benefit from it long term in many ways right now there is a culture of bring in foreigners to do the low paid manual work either palestians or from other parts of the world who either stay and settle in Israel or when they are ready to go home they te the money out of the country which damages the economy. They are all bad news for Israels economy and facilities So get rid of the foireigners not the jews we need jewish population growth.

No. Create more businesses and industries instead, both small and big. Promote local investors. Promote education. Promote business morals. Pay correct salaries. Economically speaking, the wrong population has the high birth rate. Secular Israelis -- i.e. those as a class who are integrated into the economy -- have a lower birth rate than the dati, i.e. those who largely remain outside of the economy through fulltime "work" in the yeshiva, receive welfare, live off charity, etc. 10, 20, 30 years from now, the percentage of those who work and contribute to the economy will grow smaller and smaller, while the percentage of those who live off of others will increase. Interesting times ahead for Israel...

This is a guy who is stuck inside his box and doesn't appear to be able to think outside of it - not a good management trait at all. Cutting the birthrate will do nothing to solve the existing problem of a large population of young people who need to be integrated into the workforce. The education system in Israel stinks bigtime. Business has almost no connection to the pre-university education system, but Landa blithely ignores that key problem. He seems to forget that economies are driven by a complex mix of private and public interests, and Landa has to work with that whether he likes it or not. No matter how many factories you open, you still need roads, schools, sewers, hospitals, and other public infrastructure - and a major portion of the population works there. For a solution he should start at the bottom and work his way up - not start with what appears to be a desire to lower the number of people in his town who have less money than he does.

End the corruption both in government and the private sector. Put the free loaders to work. Stop following the philosophy of Ayn Rand, which is also destroying the middle class in the U.S. . Then Israel will leave Scandanavia and Ireland in their wake.

But if we lower the birthrate he can say goodbye to his Israeli villa, since then, he'll be too scared living, surrounded by only Israeli ARABS. There IS a demographic danger, if we lower it. Europe is trying this already. They are being outbred quite rapidly by Muslims. Quite apart from that, they face the problem of a bigger tax bill every year (thanks to statist/socialist governments being elected year in, year out). So fewer people of working age exist to pay for the wants and needs of an ever-growing number of people who don't work. No wonder so many Europeans are leaving. Someone said "Don't include the seculars in this speech - You need to speak to the Haredim." Why do you think it is clever to have fewer children than the Haredim? If you think your way of life is worth preserving, you have to have enough children for it to continue. But instead, hand-wringing 'seculars' will maintain they've done the right thing by having one child, even as virtually the only young people they see are religious. 'Secularism' of this type is little more than cultural suicide.
