Ireland's wealth is not built to a large degree on a "huge tax dodge". Ireland's tax regime is in compliance with ALL international and EU laws and treaties. If you want to refer to countries that are rich because of their tax regimes, look at Switzerand or Luxembourg. Ireland's wealth is built on many factors: peace process, high education standards, flexible workforce, pro-business Govt, proximity to US, etc. Living in Israel now, I do agree though that Israel is more inventive/creative.

Europeans do not stop moaning about the declining birthrates and the burden the low birthrate will place on the economy. Israel is no Denmark because it has only been around for a few years and built its economy from scratch while absorbing a huge immigrant population. With The Muslim birthrate in Denmark 3 times higher than the Non Muslim one, Denmark and co are in dire straights. Please, let's stop pretending Ireland is rich because anything they did themselves. Every corner of the irish economy was built, and is sustained, by EU money. The irish model is not one to envy, they're basically living off the worlds largest welfare check. Now we've given them so much money that they're actually richer than most countries subsidizing them, but the EU STILL keep sending them money. Ireland is a nation of leeches, even worse than Spain.

What a genius this guy is....shows you that just because a man makes money doesnt make him any smarter than anyone else....Yeah, lets lower Jewish birthrates, after all there are so many Jews in the world-14 million, or 4 million less than there were 70 years ago. Stop giving away land, make the Arabs pay a thousand times over for every israeli they harm and the economic problems would go away. Of course, that would take guts, because the world will hate you for it, but the who cares, the world is going to hate Israel regardless of what Israel does..

You are a moron! a fool and his wealth are soon parted.. As a owner of a business and a financial analyst, the market and industry works EXACTLY OPPOSITE! Less children = less workers.. which means less taxes and less funding of retierment plans etc.. Look at the US and europe and their social security crissis ? The reasobn why those europeen countries are riches is because of free market trade of which israel does not believe in plus the grossly corrupt incompetant goverment and its suicidal, communist and facist ideal's. If the goverment would quit wasting money on throwing jews out of their homes, lower taxes and tarrif's, revamp the system to make it easier to get things done.. well it just might create a economic revolution.

Very courageous speech. Thanks Mr Landa for saying right thing. Amazed so many Jews readers around the world are so much furious against the true fact. They dont realize what happened to India and China. Population pressure is the main obstacle there against growth. One day same thing will repeat in Israel unless it is checked now. Anyhow coexistance with Arabs side by side is a sign of a healthy society , rather a polarised secluded society where only Jews lives. What a shame that those people who are so much suffered from similar ideas of Nazis to seclusion dont want to live side by side with Arabs in a multicultaral society.

Europe's problem is that due to decades of too-LOW birth rates, there are too few in the work force to support the relatively large number of retired. Israel's problem is that due to too-HIGH birth rates, there are too few in the work force to support the relatively large number of children. Just as Europe is needs a higher birth rate, Israel needs a lower one. So Landa has it right, as difficult as it may be some to face.

... mouths to feed! It's clear from the Hebrew speech (not from the article!) that Landa is worried (rightly in my opinion) that Israel just can't afford to have such a high birth rate - period. Since the birthrate of the Arabs, especially the beduin, is even higher than that of the Jews, why do the Jews reading this article think that he is referring specifically to THEM? I think he is just saying "too many mouths to feed". BTW, anyone know of a single country in the world that has a high birthrate that isn't impoverished?

Jews have lots of children! It's a matter of survival. Europe has allowed massive legal and illegal immigration of Muslims into their countries. Muslims have extremely high birth rates. It is fully documented that mosques and Muslim institutions funded by Saudi Arabia, throughout the world, including Europe U.S. UK Australia, Israel, etc. teach hate and jihad against infidels. Europe now faces a terrifying future.

All this stuff is shallow and plainly incorrect - for example our GNP per capita growth this year was higher than OECD average. But it's not the main reason why the man is incredibly stupid: did he think who will feed the elders in country with average aga of ~50??

in this country courageous enough to say out loud what every economist, politician and business leader knows (but can't afford to be skewered by saying out loud): Being poor is not an option for Israel, which has to defend itself against wealthy powerful enemies like Iran - and having a high birth rate guarantees that we will be just that, poor. It's too easy to talk about G-D's commandment to be Be Fruitful and Multiply. What about G-D's commandment regarding PIKUACH NEFESH?

Israel can NOT be compared to any other country like India or China. Like I said previously, I understand what Mr. Landa means, indeed it's feeding mouths. BUT to maintain a democratic, Jewish country of our own, we need to maintain a Jewish growth. The more Jews in Israel, the stronger it will become, spiritually and financially. And btw, I'd rather have a big, healthy, Jewish family without a dime, than the opposite of it. Israel is our own and only Jewish country we have. Beezrat HaShem, Jews will continue to, "be fruitful and multiply"!

As it is, children don't bring about poverty so far what DOES bring poverty is: 1) minimum ridiculous salaries approved by rich knesset members 2) national security allowances that too often go to the incorrect people who would prefer not to work and live at the expense of tax-payers. This does mean hareidim specifically. I'm talking about the eternal non-workers whom by some reason live their lives on bituach leumi. People who really deserve monetary help from the state should be getting it (handicapped, single parents, ect). 3) reduced (2) + increased (1) should be a good incentive to get the parasites out into the workforce 4) stop depending on foreign workers 5) reduce income tax (**Killing us**) 6) reduce **tens of thousands** of useless gov 6-7 figure annual income salaries, including presidency institution. 7) stop this country from being owned by 12 - 14 families alone So far kids DO NOT affect any of the above, so I would suggest to mr Indigo to adress the issue from the right angle and by all means PRU URVU

Ireland did receive A LOT of EU funds, to enable it to catch up. These funds were put to good use, mainly spent on education and infrastructure. But the main reasons for the growth were the fact that Ireland had a highly skilled, cheap, English speaking workforce, low corporate tax, and liberal labor laws. Effective use of legal funding is not what anyone would call a "leech".
