1. Netanyahu making a mockery of himself
Aharon   (01.26.07)
This is insanity. There is no way to win such a trial, and he is making a fool of himself.
2. Well done Bibi.
Allan ,   Ramat Ilan, Israel   (01.26.07)
This is clear, Bibi is the one looking out for us israeli's. Not Olmert and his cronies! And this trial can be won as he threatened another soveriegn country and therefore is against the international law. I just hope and pray that Bibi gets back in power.
3. it's not about winning a trial
jerome ,   basalt, co   (01.26.07)
but getting the world community to open there blind eyes to what is obvious to the few that have open eyes to what can happen with a Iranian Nukes. Putin and Chavez should also be put on trial for there lunacy in supporting Hitler, I mean Ahmadinajad.
4. Netanyahu
Sheldon B. ,   Cleveland Hts.   (01.26.07)
Ahmadinejad = Hitler....Trial...Execution. Has Netanyahu lost his little mind. We need a sane person not another Bush.
5. #1 - You're wrong - trial would be won
Adolf Ahmadinejad   (01.26.07)
The trial would definitely be won, because Ahmadinejad would have to explain every detail to the jury how he plan to wipe Israel off the map without committing genocide on the Jews living there. What is unlikely in my opinion is getting Ahmadinejad to a trial in the first place, not winning the trial. So I say the opposite of what you say, there is now way on G-d's green earth such a trial would be lost against Ahmadinejad.
6. Israel and international law
(01.26.07)
Israel never listens to international law anyways... oh... i guess only if it rules in their favor... hypocrites
7. ahmadnejad on trial?
tom ,   Israel   (01.26.07)
I think it's won't happen because the international community would try to sue Israel for seperation fence, lebanon second war and... (the list is very long), most of the world is pro-arab, the international law isn't a vital tool for us, the initiative is good but not realistic.

bib is not making a fool of himself and this is not insanity. what is insanity is for us to not do anything. what is insanity is for us not to say anything. this is true insanity. bibi is a shrewed politician who is using his position in the media to exploit the moment and, yes, to do and speak about ahmadinejad. anything but world silence to this man may help. inaction results in disaster. events in history tend to repeat themselves and one must learn to be pro active rather than turn their back and refuse to deal with any imminent problem.
9. once the die is cast
tommy ,   belfast uk   (01.26.07)
and the principle agreed on--actions can be modified. Although dont hold your breath for a spineless uk (nearly said british) government to risk offending any muslims after all we dont want the religion of peace to get upset because the barbarianism is never far from the surface.and we are running out of ways to appease them short of introducing sharia law
10. good Idea
Fred ,   Imperial Beach, USA   (01.26.07)
As many nazis were brought to trial for the horrible crimes against the Jews, so should Irans leader before he even tries as he has already admitted his nefarious intentions.
11. Excellent First Step. Kol ha-Kavod!
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (01.26.07)
It's way overdue for true war criminals to be charged at The Hague, and it begins with incitement to genocide. But this should be followed up also with initiatives to charge and try leaders of Khizb-Allah, Hamas and Fatah for war crimes as well (child soldiers, infanticide, terrorism, voluntary as well as involuntary human shields, launching attacks from amidst civilian population centers, etc.). For example, evidence overwhelmingly indicates that the then leader of Fatah was responsible for, and should be charged with and held accountable for, the murder of Muhammed al-Dura. Israel has left a vacuum at The Hague that terrorist have kept filled with false charges that went nowhere legally but have fueled their propaganda machines most effectively and poisoned world opinion against Israel. Aharon (#1) is either myopic or simply hates Netanyahu. If the latter, for the good of Israel, learn to distinguish the message from the messenger. 12. World has done nothing
Semsem ,   New York, USA   (01.26.07)
It's a scandal that the world community; United Nations, Mr. Solana / European Union have done nothing. Only useless words while Germany continues to trade with them and Russia is clearly in bed with them.

If Netanyahu has lost his mind, apparently, he's got company...including an Iranian professor. Perhaps Bibi is crazy like a fox.
14. The world waits for Israel
Ibrahim ,   S. Arabia   (01.26.07)
Ahmadinejad's words had been directly against Israel. If Israel doesn't start serious protests/actions, the world concludes that they don't take Ahmadinejad seriously, so why should the world. As for Netanyahu, he is the most brilliant and sane politician Israel has, and is not in power. He sees and calls things as they actually are.
15. Netanyahu Rules
Charles ,   Uk   (01.26.07)
someone commented that he is making a mockery of himself. Better than sitting on ones hands and doin nothin.... Well done BIBI. Any pressure on Iran and its government, is a move in the right direction.
16. Ahmadinejad on Trial
Martin ,   Philadelphia,PA USA   (01.26.07)
To put someone on trial because then intend to do evil or provoke someone else to commit an evil act? This is stepping outside any reasonable boundary of law and destroying the very notion of human freedom. What human being would be innocent if such a precedent were set? Moreover, who would decide which intentions are worthy of indictment? It's incredible that a man of his intellect and political experience would even voice such an idea. Executing such laws would depend solely on who held political power. Those individuals who not necessarily be people who hold Netanyahu's world view.

19. WHY NOW AND NOT SEVEN YEARS AGO
Sid Emess   (01.26.07)
IN ASKING THIS QUESTION I HAVE PUT THE WHOLE MATTER IN ITS TRUE PERSPECTIVE. I WAS PRESENT AT THE MEETING AND LISTENED VERY CAREFULLY.IRWIN CUTLER WAS BRILLIANT - BUT BIBI HAS TOO BIG A MOUTH - PROMISING ISRAEL WILL TAKE ACTION IF NOBODY ELSE DOES. WHAT BOTHERS ME IS THAT IN THE DOCUMENT ISSUED AT THE MEETING THERE WERE PICTURES OF A HEAVEY WATER PLANT AT ARAK UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN 2004 AS WELL AS THE DELIVERY AT BOUSHEHR IN 2004 OF A HEAVY PRESSURE VESSEL FOR THE NUCLEAR REACTOR (L0OKS AS IF IT WAS DUTCH FABRICATORS). AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER THE ENGINEERING FOR THESE PLANTS AS WELL AS THE ENRICHMENT FACILITIES WAS CARRIED OUT IN 2000 - WHY HAS THE WORLD REMAINED SILENT FOR SO LONG? WHY HAS ISRAEL NOT SPOKEN OUT BEFORE? AS THE ENRICHMENT CENTRIFUGES ARE MADE OF VERY SPECIAL MATERIALS WHY CANNOT THE WORLD STOP IT BEING SUPPLIED? THERE ARE MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS- JUST LIKE IN THE 1930'S. DIALOGUE GETS NOWHERE BUT PREVENTING DELIVERY OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT WILL HALT THE PROGRAMME IN ITS TRACKS., UNLESS IT HAS ALREADY BEEN DELIVERED. SHAME ON THE COUNTRIES SUPPLYING IT - IS THAT WHY THE UN TAKES NO ACTION??
20. Ahmadinejad
Peter ,   Sotton UK   (01.26.07)
I admire Netanyahu`s courage, in coming to London to persuade the Brits to do the right thing against Ahmadinejad. But unfortunately Bibi is plowing in water. The Brits will never do the right thing against Iran or against Hamas , Hizballah , they themselves are anti-Israel.
21. Ahmadinejad MUST go on trial. PERIOD.
dd   (01.26.07)
I have curiously read all comments on this piece of news and, as usual, there are opinions and opinions. No.1, Aharon, is reticent, no.4 is utterly wrong, but Martin of Phil. is most cynical. It is not a presumption or an academic debate whether this little mad hairy monkey of Tehran is going to blow up Israel ( and the rest of the civilized world for that matter). Or is he not ? Can you garantee he is not going to do that ? Can you from Philadelphia assure the people of Israel to sit tight and do nothing , like it happened in Europe before WWII ? Do you really believe that your quasi-academic and cynical blah-blah on who to put on trial and what is moral or immoral in the realm of law is going to deter Ahmadinejad from wiping Israel off the map ? No my friend, I don't think so. Therefore, let Bibi and other worrying politicians try their best. A bit late, but better late than never.
22. Suddenly Israel recognises The Hague ?
Ratatouille ,   Makom Antwerpen   (01.26.07)
Israel did not sign up to the International Criminal Court, but lowlife Bibi now wants to send some Irananian shmug overthere. What do you really want Bibi ? You're shaming israel.

If only Bibi was elected PM Israel would not be torn apart piece meal as Omert has allowed. Even Sharon would be displeased.
24. Ole Benji Must Make Israelis Mighty Proud!!
Cadavre ,   US   (01.26.07)
What ever happened in that corruption case against Nutty Neti and his wife? Did Israelis let him keep his loot - as they did Sharon and Family. If Israeli becomes a movie, who will "Don Corleone" be, Benji or Airy? And Nutty Neti is all over the place. In london on 7/11 when Israeli Security COntractors were pre-positioned for the "attack". - Was he "Odigoed" out of NYC on 911 when the three airports, where the alleged hi-jackers departed from, and under security contracts with an Israeli Company, provided the tell-tale pictures that lead the brain drained US citizenery to beleive Afghani passported Saudis did the deed? Where is the wisdom, common sense and industry of the Jew our fathers embraced. Is Nutty Neti the best the Jew can offer? I wait with baited breth for Israel to attck Iran and put us all out of her misery. It will be the last act for sure. But now, Nutty Neti, seems to be getting all legal-egal on us with his ponticates of a Nuremberg Tribunal - will Irans time at the bar come before or after Israel's? What ever happened to the promise of an Israeli attack on Iran - we've been waiting for years - why the side step Nutty Nety? WHy?
25. Israel is the champion of international law
Dr Yoram Shifftan ,   Darom, Israel   (01.26.07)
The purpose of the initiative is not to win the trial in the Hague, but to attract attention. As to number 6 and others that say that Israel does not fulfill international law, Israel is the only one in the region that fulfills international law. Consider for example the principle of "ex iniuria non oritur ius" which means that the aggressor [state] is not allowed according to international law to benefit from the fruits of its aggression. This is discussed in many places in the best textbook by the greatest expert of international law:See Professor Julius Stone, Israel and Palestine: Assault on the Law of Nations. 1981. The Johns Hopkins University Press. There are many examples of this principle. One such is Belgium which contains part of Germany because of German aggression in WWI. Uniquely the Arabs always want to be restored automatically to the "status quo ante bellum" after their aggression is defeated in battle, which is not allowed according to international law. Remember who attacked who in 1948; was it the Arab armies of 7 Arab nations that invaded Israel or the other way round? The Arabs were the aggressor in every single hostility and war since the 19 century. But in fact Israel rights to Western Palestine are based not just on this principle of international law, but on a number of fundamental additional principles which are independent of the above principle, see for such enumeration of the legal bases of the territorial entitlement of Israel and the Jews, Julius Stone's book, pp 168-169. One should also stress that although the British have ended their role as trustee, the obligations of the Palestine mandate continue. This is a major fact, see Julius Stone's book, pp. 121-123 in particular. This is also central to the articles of the other great expert of international law, prof Eugene Rostow (two of his articles are on think-israel). This is important since Jewish rights (obligations of other nations) according to the Palestine Mandate of the League of Nations, are also enshrined in the charter of the United nations, and further confirmed in the international court of justice, in perpetuity. They include the fact that only Jews got national rights in Western Palestine, and that it is the obligation of all the nations of the world to encourage dense Jewish settlement in all of Western Palestine. For further details of all the facts according to international law, see Eli Hertz's work: http://www.mythsandfacts.com/Conflict/mandate_for_palestine/mandate_for_palestine.htm#B1 http://www.mythsandfacts.com/media/user/documents/Letter to Osnat Mandel 06-17-05.pdf http://www.mythsandfacts.com/Conflict/10/resolution_181.asp www.MEfacts.org where he actually built a mini Google where one can find different documents under specific Keywords. Try for example the key word: Palestine Mandate. His general site includes the older documents and current material: http://www.mythsandfacts.org/ It is also useful to note that there is already a Palestinian Arab state in four-fifths of Palestine (see esp. Julius Stone book, pp22-25) which today it is called Jordan, before it was called Eastern Palestine or Trans-Jordan. And note too that all Arab documents say that the Arabs are one nation. Therefore they deserve one state only. But anomalously they have 22 states. The Arabs themselves do not think there is a Palestinian nation. It was only invented in the sixties to destroy Israel.

Carolyn ,   USA   (01.27.07)
If this email is , in fact, from someone in Saudi Arabia, I feel, it is extraordinary and brave. It is ,also, accurate. Ibrahim, if you are real, I most, sincerely, thank you , and may I compliment you on your English usage. It is better than many native, English speakers. Carolyn, USA (01.27.07)
27. Paris or London?!?!?! LOL
LNPG   (01.27.07)
Nice try, benji. Everyone knows Iran and israel are mortal enemies, not Iran and Great Britain or France. So you can drop the fear-mongering right now. Quit trying to get other countries to fight israel's battles for you.
28. #14
Isaac ,   USA   (01.28.07)
Bravo. Rarely we get to hear an Arab defending Israel. I hope those Arab countries who truly value peace should have no fear of Israel unless like that insane Ahmad who is bend on wiping Israel out of the map. In fact moderate Arab ought to be fearful of this reckless man.
