1. Leiberman for Prime Minister!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (01.26.07)
No to giving up any more land of Eretz Yisrael!!
2. Land For Peace A Totally Failed Idea
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.26.07)
Actually, peace has been a totally failed idea. We should just reconcile ourselves to the idea that we have to fight to survive. To hell with peace. If our politicians would face the truth, we'd be much better off.
3. so? palestinians admitted all along they never wanted peace
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.26.07)
they want LAND, hence "LAND for 'peace' " (a term open to widely arbitrary interpretation). peace for them is just an unusual situation that may (or may not) occur. or if it does occur is not guaranteed to last (can end at any whim or perceived infraction). the real issue is WHY did israel agree to that concept? it's a no-win situation.
4. Our Lieberman is fishing for voters and, 'course, forgets...
Jonas ,   SAD   (01.26.07)
... that Israel CONQUERED Sinai, therefor it is NOT its land (international community never recongnized Sinai as a partz of Israel). Also, giving Sinai BACK, Israel has peace with Egypt. Egypt might not love Israel, but you do not have rockets flying to your southern cities. Same thing with Jordan. So, clame about "land equal to four times the size of Israel" is not valid. Also - it is not truth that Israel today has LESS security - before 1967, you had LESSER security - you were in WAR state with every neighbour + support of Iraq and Iran + international community, including USA, were not very fond of Jews. So, "the result is that today we have less security" is also not standing. Oh, well, what to expect from bigot.
5. Make this guy PM already!
Rob ,   UK   (01.26.07)
He's only stating the obvious but somebody with moral fortitude is required desperately before the appeaseniks of Kadima sell Israel down the river/
6. The Lubavicher Rebbe, zt'l
mordechai ,   yerushalaim   (01.26.07)
Everyone just woke up to that?! The Rebbe was saying it on record since mid-seventies, when it just started.... How much jewish blood was necessary to prove the Rebbe's prophetic wisdom?
7. Leiberman
Sagi ,   Israel   (01.26.07)
Please whisper this ever so softly in the ear of Mr. Beilin.
8. #3 - "so" ? I voted for Lieberman. Who did you vote for ?
redmike ,   te   (01.26.07)
Easy to say 'so' and 'who cares' etc. I did something about it. Did you ? Mike
9. Land for peace failed a very long time ago.
Isaac Haskiya ,   Roskilde-Denmark   (01.26.07)
It was mostly the International Opinion who invented the idea in its efforts to teach Israel what to do! Giving something very concrete for something very abstract (especially in the eyes of the Arabs) sounds mostly as a conman´s sales-speech. It is strange that many Israelis. ordinary people and experienced politicians swallowed the hook so easily. Liberman´s makes more sense. A separation from hostile and illoyal Arab towns within Israel against receiving loyal and caring Jewish settlements sounds very healthy for all parts.
10. JONAS #4: JORDAN 'IS' ISRAELIs, THE VICTOR HAS OWNS SINAII
WAKE UP DUMMIES   (01.26.07)
BIGOT IS ONE WHO BELIEVES IN HIS CAUSE.. YOU TOO ARE A BIGOT... DIFFERENCE IS... YOU BIGOTRY RELIES ON SECULAR DREAMS... THE OTHER BIGOT RELIES ON ""HISTORY"" MY BIGOTRY IS BELIEVING IN TORAH, 'GDS' WORDS THAT ISRAEL IS NOT PERMITTED TO GIVE ANY LAND AWAY. AND WAKE UP EARLIER IN THE MORNING AND KILL THE ENEMY BEFORE HE KILLS YOU. SECURITY IS LESS BECAUSE ISRAELI LEADERS ARE NOT EVEN BIGOTS... THEY ARE SELFISH EGOTISICAL IGNORANT WANNA BE PEACE PRIZE WINNERS AT THE EXPENCE OF 'GDs' HOLY LAND . THEY LACK VISION , FORSIGHT, WISDOM. I BASE MY BIGOTRY ON THE LEADERS PERFORMANCE..... WHEN A LEADER HAS A CONFERENCE TO CONVINCE HIS PEOPLE THAT HE 'WON' A WAR.... THEN HE LOST.......
11. Land for Peace?
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.26.07)
I'm trying to put that deal in terms that I can understand, so here is my scenario: Russia decides that they want Alaska back. After all, they used to own it. From across the Bering Strait they start to lob whatever until some a$$hole US president wakes up with the idea that, well, we can do without Alaska and those Inuits and he convinces congress to sign it over. That lasts until Russia decides that they really would love to have the State of Washington, too, and that, if we don't give it to them, they'll start to bombard it and Oregon from Alaska. What the hell are a couple of more states. Give those away, too, in the name of peace, of course. Since Alaska, Washington State and Oregon were so easy, what the hell, why not demand everything west of the Mississippi, or else. In the meantime, Mexico, seeing all of this, demands California, New Mexico and Texas back. (Ok, let 'em have California.) Now, the Russians and Mexicans might get into it over Texas and CA, but when it comes to the US, they agree with each other: Let's talk and negotioate their butts all the way to Greenland, and from the looks of it, it can all be done in the name of Land for Peace, meaning, we'll give 'em peace as soon as we have all their land. Sounds like a great program to me, if you're Russia and Mexico. I'm sure the Canadians would want in on it, too, but we'll trust them until they come down Niagara falls in barrels. Change a few names, and it sounds like Israel and its peace-loving neighbors. Do I have that about right?
12. This is why Peretz and the Left dont like Lieberman
Ken Jurist   (01.26.07)
The left want leaders who want to surrender to the Arabs. Lieberman needs to be the PM. Plain and Simple. Alon Liel is to stupid to know why Syria gives refuge to every terrorist organization in the world. Soon the North Koreans will be demanding that Alon Liel and Beilin become South Korean, so they'll give away the South to Kim Jung Il.
13. #9 Lieberman says it all
(01.26.07)
14. Land for Peace
Jeff ,   NY   (01.26.07)
This is like saying in 1945 that maybe the Golut is not the place for Jews, too little too late. It's probably all over.
15. A russian guy wrote: The peace will come...
Lednah ,   Europe   (01.26.07)
when the palestians start to love their children more then they hate other's children. Absolute truth...
16. liberman got it wron
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (01.26.07)
Land for peace worked with Jordan and Egypt and it is the model to follow.
17. Just The Beginning
RICHARD ,   Texas,USA   (01.26.07)
Lebanon is going to make the PA territories look friendly in the very near future. Iran and Syria WILL use this country as a launching pad for their plans to destroy Israel. It is now underway. Although Lieberman would be a better PM than that awful Olmert, Israel NEEDS Bibi or someone just like him. If your government is more afraid of mobilizing to war then they are of the obvious start of your enemies plans to destroy your nation and possibly citizens.....well you are doomed. The US and Israel are going down the same path of apathy and uncertainty on what to do except Israel's ordeal is much worse and immediate. STOP the hesitation and embrace self defense and unleash the fury of your nations (US & Israel) on the fascist hordes whom threaten your very existence
18. Motivation
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (01.26.07)
I'm beginning to believe that these people in this goverment are selling out Israel for personal gain financially but that is a opinion only. Why else would any leader of a country ignore attacks on her citizens and give away vital strategic territory.
19. # 5 Rob
Sagi ,   Israel   (01.26.07)
Not just down the river. No paddle.
20. to #8 - you voted for Olmert's stooge. i voted for Beni Elon
aaron ,   ra'anana   (01.26.07)
Lieberman is sitting in the government with not only the architect of the disengagement and realignment 'plans', which gave away more land and gave more incentive to our murderous enemies the palestinians, but also presided over a horribly run losing campaign against more terrorists in lebanon which he botched INCREDIBLY why is lieberman propping this loser olmert up?
21. Time for Syria to give up land for peace...again
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv   (01.26.07)
Syria gave up land for peace with Turkey. There's no reason she can't do the same with Israel. Israel must retain the Golan for the security of its citizens and protection of its major source of water. Syria was only created about 80 years ago. Israel has had the Golan for 40 years. Syria's claim is no greater than Israels. In fact, by attacking Israel 6 or 7 times and losing, Syria has lost the right to define the Golan as its own. This land is now part of Israel and should remain so FOREVER.
22. 8
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.26.07)
i voted for bush (can't vote here yet). i said "so?" because "land for peace" was a formula doomed to fail because it legitimized terrorism. obviously hindsight is 20/20 and, since there was no real alternaitve, who could blame anyone for hoping? the facts are that israel is bound by the treaties that were signed. what we must do is keep reality fully in focus, part of that is admitting that "land for peace" was a failure from the beginning and moving forward with that in full focus. lieberman is absolutely correct but i cannot vote for him when i get the chance because i like living here too much.
23. Lieberman is a racist
Dan ,   London   (01.26.07)
Before saying Lieberman for PM think about about his racist policies which would remove the concept of Israel being a democratic state.
24. dan london.who said israel was supposed to be democratic..?
ISRAEL 'GDs' STATE ,   NOT DEMOCRATIC   (01.26.07)
25. Somebody please do something
Tracy W   (01.26.07)
This government is determined to give up territory before they leave power. THIS is the most immediate danger facing Israel today. A government with no popular support and a track record of failure is about to make deals with Israel's enemies. I hope the opposition and patriotic Israelis find some legal way to stop it. Once signed, it'll be too late.
26. A no-nonsense, straight shooter
Steven ,   San Francisco   (01.26.07)
This is the guy that should be in charge. And while I'm at it Yaalon should be DM. Cannot we see the right leaders for Israel, or will Israel be perpetually burdened by corrupt, cowardly, and incompetent leadership? (And that includes Livni, no pardons simply because Livni is a female).
27. I predict in the near future Bibi and Lieberman will be next
Freejay ,   Israel   (01.26.07)
28. Hey, redmike (#8)
Joan ,   Haifa   (01.26.07)
So did I! I felt kind of bad about it at the time as everyone I knew said he was a racist war-monger-type, but I feel more vindicated all the time!
29. And the Arabs have proven him right
(01.26.07)
Thats the ironic (or maybe sad) part. Lieberman does not even have to prove himself right, the Arabs have done it for him. Now no one can say he is wrong and justify land concessions.
30. Racist
Sameer S Reehani ,   Houston,Tx USA   (01.26.07)
#23 ,couldn't have said it better.
